Guest Big Poppa Popick Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 So right now I am watching Die Hard 2 I think on FX, Saturday Night around 830...during a commercial break..they have a vengeance commercial featuring Austin, striking down people with chairs and stunnering various wrestlers. It ends with a comment on stone cold vengeance being enacted sunday So, like...what the ...anyone else seen this or have an idea?
Guest LesnarLunatic Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 It's all a work! or really lousy work on promos...
Guest The Superstar Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 They make those things months in advance... ...although you think they'd go back and change it
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 It was taped two months ago. Austin isn't coming back at Vengeance.
Guest godthedog Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 [bart simpson] austin will come...austin will come...austin will come... [/bart simpson]
Guest LesnarLunatic Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 yeah, everybody knows Austin's coming to XPW anyways.
Guest Big Poppa Popick Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 then theyre idiots for letting that spot to air
Guest Downhome Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 then theyre idiots for letting that spot to air I agree, as most of the casual fans and even some net fans are not aware of them being made in advance. This could cause some REALLY pissed off fans if they keep on showing that promo, and that is something they do NOT need right now.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 I bet at lest 10 thousand people order the ppv because they think Ausitn is coming back. kiss another 10 thousand fans goodbye.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 Well, I mean, look at it this way. Some dumb marks might take it to mean that Austin is coming back at Vengeance, and they might order it for that. Not a bad idea, and another item to add to the list of things that make the austin situation kinda wierd..

Not a bad idea, and another item to add to the list of things that make the austin situation kinda wierd.. It is a HORRIBLE idea, WWE needs to do whatever they can to NOT piss off and disapoint fans, and airing that spot is just another potential strike against them.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 you know what I just realized... Since Jericho vs. Edge isn't happening anymore... Vengeance just lost a good deal of appeal to me.
Guest Downhome Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 you know what I just realized... Since Jericho vs. Edge isn't happening anymore... Vengeance just lost a good deal of appeal to me. Well, what if Lance Storm scores a clean victory over Hulk Hogan after Jericho takes out Edge and keeps him out of the match to capture the tag-team titles?
Guest Choken One Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 O.K. U can stop airing the promo but you do you adverise it? They can't just send a new promo. I'm sure people will read into it a little more intelligent.

I'm sure people will read into it a little more intelligent. If I was a casual fan, who knew nothing about the spots being pre-taped way in advance, and knew nothing of the Austin situation except what was on TV, then I would go into the PPV expecting Austin to show up. I mean, it blantently says that Stone Cold vengence will be dealt out, that is just a tad misleading to the casual fan wouldn't ya say?
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 I bet at lest 10 thousand people order the ppv because they think Ausitn is coming back. kiss another 10 thousand fans goodbye. You're starting to turn into such a mark for the NWA that it's kind of getting a bit obvious. This happened before, anyway. The promotional poster for Fully Loaded 2000 had a huge photo of Austin and the caption "Stone Cold Steve Austin destroys those who stand in his way." Austin (who was still two months away from ending his year-long break) was not scheduled to appear. WWF put out notice on it's site and, IIRC, on TV saying that Austin would not be there.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 Has the WWE put up anything to say that Austin won't be at Vengeance?
Guest Downhome Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 Has the WWE put up anything to say that Austin won't be at Vengeance? I haven't seen it, and they certainly haven't said anything about it on TV. Being on their website does not hardly count, as a VERY small amount of the fans sitting at home even GO to that site.
Guest The Superstar Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 This happened before, anyway. The promotional poster for Fully Loaded 2000 had a huge photo of Austin and the caption "Stone Cold Steve Austin destroys those who stand in his way." Austin (who was still two months away from ending his year-long break) was not scheduled to appear. Yeah I remember that. Wasn't his face on top of the logo, and it was his hand rolling the dice? I think later they took out his face.
Guest Flyboy Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 Well, what if Lance Storm scores a clean victory over Hulk Hogan after Jericho takes out Edge and keeps him out of the match to capture the tag-team titles? I really see Edge turning on Hogan and joining Team Canada, but that's just me... *shrugs*
Guest The Superstar Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 But that would result in Hogan/Edge, which would be eons better than the predicted Hogan/Vince Plus, Hogan/Edge could have some real backstory (since Edge has always professed his Hulkamania and being at WM6)
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 Plus, Hogan/Edge could have some real backstory (since Edge has always professed his Hulkamania and being at WM6) But doesn't that kind of destroy all the work they set up to make Edge a big face? I mean the promotion has plenty of heels right now it seems like. The number of faces is rather low, especially when you consider that HHH is practically ineffective.
Guest The Superstar Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 Well I agree, and although I enjoy Edge more as a heel, I don't think they should turn him. I just think that looks like the path they're taking right now. Although I could be wrong.
Guest Flyboy Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 I mean the promotion has plenty of heels right now it seems like. I thought it was the opposite way around.... IF (notice the caps) HHH joins the NWO, and the NWO goes to Smackdown! Raw would almost have no heels. Who would they have? Guerrero and Benoit? Heyman (not Brock, heh), and that's about it. I think the WWE is low on heels now, but that's just me.
Guest SuperTonyJaymz Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 The funny thing is, they did this with the last Vengeance, in december, with Triple H and he no showed.
Guest claydude14 Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 edge joining the canadien mafia would make too much sense, so of course it won't happen. instead jericho will interfere re-setting up him vs. edge for summerslam, and leaving christian/storm to defend against the all american team of mark henry and randy orton.
Guest Downhome Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 I will be very pissed if Edge turns heel right now. I mean, he's just now getting over as a impactfull face, so, why turn him heel again? In my eyes it would make all of what they've been doing with him and his programs with Angle, Jericho, Hogan, etc... just be in vain and pointless.
Guest cynicalprofit Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 If Austins not gonna be there, isnt that then false advertisement and is something they could get sued over.
Guest Flyboy Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 Well, I wouldn't... I mean, he's gotten over seriously as a face. Granted. But, him joining Team Canada/Canadian Mafia would give more heat to a stable that's trying to be established. (Look how Christian was hated when he turned on Edge. Though, it was in their hometown). Smackdown has their #1 face. The Rock. I think it would be a good decision, though.. *shrugs*
Guest chirs3 Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 Not really - they said "Stone Cold Vengeance" will be dealt. They didn't say "STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN WILL APPEAR AT THE PPV". For all we know, Vengeance of a stone cold nature will be dealt. Not really false advertising.
