Best/Worst Video Reviewer

I'm trying to find good video reviewers on the net (wrestling wise)...so who's good and who sucks. I hate Claire Flynn Boyle and Bob Barron on 411. One rips off Scott Keith and one makes all these stupid cutesy references that suck...is anyone better than that?

Worst Reviewer: Claire Flynn Boyle doesn't even try to review the damn tape and all here cutesy refrences aren't funny.

I don't really like Claire Boyle either- I guess I just don't get it

Best: Tie between MISTAH Keith and all of the DVDVR guys.

Worst: (flame away) Meltz...just because he comes up with THE most OBSCURE references for why he gives wrestling matches the ratings he does.

Claire Boyle deserves credit for trying something different, it's just I don't find her very entertaining. To each their own, though.

 

And Bob, I thought your early stuff was a little too Keith-ish, but you've been improving.

 

The ones I like reading the most are the usual suspects, so I won't even bother listing them off, but worst? Well, this man is not the worst--far from it--but I do think Justin Baisden is overrated. His love of ALL CAPS is grating.

Is Claire Flynn Boyle the chick who writes "The Feminine Complex"? If so, I read her first two reviews on 411, thought they were OK and never read any more.

 

I mostly read Scott Keith and Bob Barron, besides my own stuff of course...

 

Matt Paligaru was pretty good when he wrote last year and JHawk's new "This Day In History" match review is interesting.

 

As for this board, The SuperStar is easily the best I think. Although Aero was giving him a run for his money, but he hasn't been writing much lately.

Retro Rob you should be on 411 Wrestling.com instead of Claire Flynn Boyle, I mean honestly your about twenty times better then her and probably my second favorite reviewer after Scott Keith(Mostly for doing a rant on Road Wild 99 ). But then again maybe you have too much time on your hands right here on the Smart marks.com

I think RetroRob is fine right here. I agree that he's a great columnist, and someone mentioned The Superstar, and I'd definitely have to agree, and I'm not just saying that because he's one of mah boyz, I've read a couple of his tape reviews and I was impressed.

 

I guess you can't go wrong with Scott Keith either, but it seems that now he goes out of his way to find something wrong with everything. Maybe he always did that and I didn't notice, who knows?

 

That's about it, I don't read anyone else's columns.

I wouldn't want to write for 411 because SK posts about 5 "Retro-Rants" at a time, thus knocking everyone else's reviews off the main page. I'm very happy here seeing how everyone's columns pretty much get a good few days on the main page.

 

Funny story, I applied for the 411 job way back when they asked for tape reviewers, before this site started. They never even responded to me, so when I applied for this site I doubted they would accept me either. Plus I have one house show review up somewhere on the 411 newsboard, so I have left my mark there.

 

T-5 days for the Road Wild 99 review.

I don't even try to read Claire FLynn Boyle any more. She's like, a female Dennis Miller sort of. I kind of like Dennis Miller, but only cause of his piache. Boyle gets no such points cause she's on paper. Although I did like the Phil Collins one.

I don't try to do that, it's just that I write something, and post it, and then I think of something like a couple seconds later, and so on. I f you look at my previous posts (I'm of course not suggesting that you should) you'll see that I post in clusters. This is how I speak and how I post.

I have to agree with Incadenza though. 411 did a pretty crappy job with the hiring. For the one good reviewer they picked up, they also got 5 bad ones. The Shark guy sucks too.

Anyone who rips off Keith. Star ratings, "The Bottom Line" more or less the same comments and ratings for matches, same desperate attempt to be funny and witty, it all just annoys me to no end.

 

Which is probably why I can enjoy Hyatte. He sucks and he freely admits it. I love that.
