Guest the_Staunton Report post Posted July 15, 2002 Sorry Bob...I take it back, I just got blinded by the star ratings...you are way better than Claire...I've totally missed the joke with her...if there was a joke to begin with.... REVIEW THE DAMN TAPE WOMAN!
Guest shlidgn90 Report post Posted July 15, 2002 best reviewers: scott keith, sean shannon, and stuart from wrestling viewpoint. worst reviewers: the dvd reviewers. they try to get a overanalytical on wrestling.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted July 15, 2002 Who is this....Superstar? Find him, and bring him to me. Dames Dames, He e-mailed me asking about the site. I told him to contact you. BTW, Meltzer and Cornette started using star ratings, so Keith copied them.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 15, 2002 I find myself to be a god of writing.. BOW DOWN! Hey- I thought I was the God of writing!
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted July 15, 2002 As far as favorites go, I read the stuff on our site, Keith, and Meltz a few times. As far as shitty guys, I have to say Hyatte. I still can't bring myself to finish off his NWA: TNA Week 1 review. It is quite possibly the WORST thing I've ever read.

Guest kingkamala Report post Posted July 15, 2002 Now even though SK whines about almost everything now I doubt anyone can say honestly that oh let's say SK's last Raw Rant is worse the Claire Flynn Boyle's last column. SK's current rants can be pretty bad but they are NOTHING and I mean NOTHING compared to the sheer badness of Hyatte's recent reviews or Claire Flynn Boyle's. I think 411wrestling.com should just get rid of those two and hire someone who actually reviews the DAMN TAPE
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 15, 2002 Yea- Hyatte is just uhhhhhhhh weird and I don't get CFB at all. I review the tapes though- I got some WCW stuff coming up
Guest treble charged Report post Posted July 15, 2002 I've got about 2 half done, and I need to get working on one of them so I can get it up. My adoring public awaits.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted July 16, 2002 scott keith writes now like it is a serious chore for him to be writing reviews. well fuck him if her doesn't want to do. retrorob is the man too.
Guest the_Staunton Report post Posted July 30, 2002 Two words if you don't like Claire Bob...Net-Feud! Take it home!
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 30, 2002 The net feud wouldnt work. Me: CFB sucks. CFB would then go on some long winded thign that makes no sense and somehow put in a Bob barron sucks.
Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted July 30, 2002 Since this is a best/worst video reviewer thread, I have to say that Teke's Missy Hyatt shoot review was pretty good. I haven't read much of his stuff before and I was impressed.
Guest godthedog Report post Posted July 31, 2002 hyatte SUCKS. admitting that you suck 10 times in a review doesn't detract from your suckiness, it only makes you redundant (and, as a result, you only suck more). justin baisden is probably my favorite. i actually like the all caps, it's fun to read when you can tell he's really getting into it. he points out the story and adds nice details that pull me in as well, unlike keith (who tends to just name off moves & add the occasional smart-ass remark). minus the caps, i shamelessly ripped him off in my bret/flair rant. that said, nobody is funnier than old school keith ripping into a horrible ppv. i loved it when he just didn't give a shit about the match and went off on a tangent about anything. one of the best was his theory that sid was really an artist, creating a statement and a body of work with his shitty matches; he said something to the effect of "whenever he has someone in a rear chinlock, he's really just screaming, 'help me before i suck again!'" and i, for one, miss the hot poker up the ass system. Guest the_Staunton Report post Posted July 31, 2002 OK Bob...no feud...but at least a scathing parody...lol
Guest Daredevil21 Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Teke is flat out awesome with his reviews of his shoots. You all should seriously check them out, because he includes so much more in them than SK did, for no other reason than he isn't as lazy as SK that he's willing to mention all things that are notable. Anyway, I like most of Barron's stuff, RetroRob, vintage SK, and even Sydney Brown. I have liked the last couple tape rants I did, but I wasn't crazy about my early ones. At times they were a little too SK-ish, and that's something I work to get away from. But to be fair, I really hate it when people accuse you of copying SK just because it looks similar to his style. I like star ratings, because I think that's just the easyiest way to go. Points are too vague when dealing with matches, and only work for segments. It's becoming easier to not be so much like the current SK, because he just skims through all his tape reviews now, never really letting the people know why something is good or why a match is important. I can hang with it, cause I've been reading his stuff for a while, but I'd be lost as hell if I were a first time reader reading his stuff.
Guest nWoScorpion Report post Posted July 31, 2002 muchos gracias for not mentioning me as a bad reviewer (although i've been limited to writing for sites closing down.)
Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted July 31, 2002 *cough* Check the sig... I actually like CFB, and she's never really attempted to review a wrestling tape, so who cares if she doesn't actually talk about it.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Yea- teke's stuff is awesome. It must be hard to recap a shoot promo.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 31, 2002 Star ratings are meaningless, I know, but Baisden's love of the Caps Lock button is at times misleading. You'll being reading one of his pieces in which he's talking about the SWANKNESS OF GOD'S WILDBOMB~! and yelling out things like LARIATOOOOOO, etc., and the guy appears to be creaming his pants over the HOT WRESTLING ACTION~!, but then at the end of the match, he'll give it **. All that drama over a measly two stars? It's not a big deal, but I find it odd.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted July 31, 2002 man, i am down with all of the reviewers at the site. i've always enjoyed sk's rants, because if nothing else, i know how my feelings af a match compare to his and i can use that as a basis on whether i will purchase a tape or not. one of my recent favorites is mark goodhart aka goodear here on the board! he takes popular, universally loved ppv's and determines whether or not they should be universally loved!!! check them out here.... Wrestlemania X Bash at the Beach '96 as for tv show reviews, i'll take the guys up at the site against any other show reviewers on the net.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted July 31, 2002 "as for tv show reviews, i'll take the guys up at the site against any other show reviewers on the net." At the risk of sounding immodest, I think our show reviewers here at TSM are solid top to bottom.

At the risk of sounding immodest, I think our show reviewers here at TSM are solid top to bottom. i do too and that's not shameless self-promotion. i think if you compare the weekly reviews of any given show whether it's raw/sd or the weekend shows, our guys know how to write. do they make mistakes? yes. but i also think they are more entertaining than the majority of recaps that i've seen on the net! Guest the_Staunton Report post Posted August 3, 2002 Oh well, the Claire Flynn Boyle Mr T was pretty funny...still nothing to do with wrestling mind...
Guest Crizag Report post Posted August 5, 2002 Scott Keith's older rants are very enjoyable to read and get the feeling for some of the events I havent had the opportunity to see. As of late, his rants are nothing more than bashing the product unless Benoit is involved. Im sorry, but if you really hate wrestling so much, why the heck would you subject yourself to this torture on a weekly basis? As for inventing the star rating system...COME ON MAN. Things have been rated in "stars" for decades. Everything from restaurants to resorts to movies are rated on the star system and im fairly certain that these examples were not deemed "bonzo gonzo" by Mr. Keith.. Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted August 5, 2002 I'm not sure if I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but it was really Cornette and Meltzer who started using stars to rate wrestling matches. I agree with Dr. Tom and Goodhelmet on TSM's TV reviewers. I rarely read any TV reviews outside of TSM besides skimming Mr. Negativity's stuff over on 411. Guest nWoScorpion Report post Posted August 5, 2002 not to sound stupid but what does Bonzo Gonzo mean when Scott Keith says it? (i never really noticd it til recently)
Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted August 5, 2002 When SK was reviewing the Wrestling Gold DVD Series, which is full of old archived footage from the late 70's and 80's, one of the announcers had stated the crowd had gone BONZO GONZO after the hot tag in a midcard tag match. Basically, the crowd was apathetic and whenever SK uses the term, its meant in a sarcastic way of saying, this SHOULD be a hot segment, but the crowd really could care less. Guest converge241 Report post Posted August 7, 2002 best: Meltzer in the newsletter (sure its the last one i read but its great) Scott Keith worst: CRZ - i just hate the whole set up of it Powell. The recap itself isnt so bad, but the comments are so mundane and the predictions for where the angle is going/whats going to happen in the night get annoying in the middle: The rick and marvez on the observer site i dont read any of the others that are out there, just too much off the same. After my top two i usually check out the board and then im all set.
