They are thinking, "Okay, business is down so we'll increase our DVD profits by making them exclusive to Shopzone so that everybody has to pay the list price of $24.95!"

The only thing I bought off of WWF/E Shopzone has been RVD mechadise... looks like it will remain that way.

the way people are going on about it here you'd think they made an unprecedented, catastrophic business decision.

Uh...they have. They've basically just killed their home video market.

Does it actually say all of that or did you just come up with it when you saw that they said JD 2002 was only at Shopzone?

Nope. Amazon.com took down Judgment Day 2002 and all pre-order titles today. Also, no retail stores have Judgment Day 2002 in stock, nor will they have any future titles in stock.

My brother started this post after I tried to buy Judgment Day, and was asked to spend $32.40 for it. I've just had enough of this crap, so I sent a letter to the WWE's "feedback" email address. I suggest everyone who has a problem with this also contacts them, to let them know that this is not ok, this is not going to fly. Here is what I said...

I have been a hardcore fan of the WWF since early 1997. I buy all the pay per view tapes, and dvds on the days they are released, i have been front row to 7 pay per view events, and I tape every episode of RAW and Smackdown. But as the business has begun to fall, you have put some of the blame on the fall of the economy. But with recent events, I now know that that is complete crap, and that it seems like the WWE is purposely trying to put itself out of business. First, I went to the website only to find out your latest DVD release, Judgment Day, is shopzone exlusive. What are you thinking?! Do you really think that anyone in their right mind is going to pay $30 for a DVD? And what about the people who don't have credit card access for the internet? You guys are absolutely shooting yourselves in the foot. For someone who goes out to Best Buy every month to buy the latest release, and having done this for the past 3 years, to not buy your dvd because of the insane price and online-exclusivity is ridiculous. Why are you cutting off 3/4 of your business? In addition, in a time where you want to reach out to more people and make your product accessible again, you also raise the prices of your travel packages to an astonishing $2,000 for two people and raise up pay per view prices $5. If the economy is suffering as you credit your decline in business to, why are you jacking up the prices of all your products? Are you insane? Are you purposely trying to alienate your core audience? Not buying a DVD for the first time in two years because of a company without logic...

Well, this is certainly a smart move...

I think they are going to realize this won't last very long if they want to make money.

Whoever thought this stupid idea up should be fired. This is like when WCW was talking about dropping the Nitro replay under the belief it would raise the live ratings when, in fact, a lot of us would never have bothered with Nitro if it wasn't for that replay. That was a stupid idea (which they never actually utilized, thank God), and this is worse because this directly involves their pocketbooks.

I still havent found any place where it is confirmed of this story, I do know that in July of last year WWE entered into agreement with Sony Music Video to distribute WWE Videos and DVDs to retail outlets, so if they are restricting them from doing so WWE would be in breech of contract. I would like to know where this information was discovered. I will believe went i read a press release or something offical from Sony Music or WWE.

This does suck...they've purposly sabatoged their recient VHS releases more or less making you buy the dvd just so you can get a clean copy.

The last few wwe ppvs released on video were in EP mode and were pretty shitty.

Business is down...let's raise ppv rates.

Business is down...let's take dvds off the markets and sell a fraction of what we use to.

Gee Vince, with the brainiacs you have making your decisions for you it's a wonder you're not selling out small arena or getting ratings back in the 4s

Hey Smarkzone, how come amazon.com still lists KOTR 2002????

As someone who works at a place where we carry many WWF/E videos and DVD's,past and present, let me be the first to say that there is absolutely no confirmation on this whatsoever. Just take it as hearsay.

If I find out otherwise, I will post another response.

Hopefully, this is some sort of a mistake.

That's weird that amazon.com lists King of the Ring 2002 but not Judgment Day...

And why does buy.com have a release date of December 2003 for Judgment Day?!

WWF/E also did a similar thing with the replica belts, saying "Get 'em while they last, only at Shopzone", but any wrestling collector knows that you can get the belts plenty of other places.

I'm thinking that I got some bad info and that the Shopzone-exclusive thing is only for Judgment Day 2002.

Let's hope that's the case...

I called Best Buy today and you can still pre-order KOTR 2002 and Hulk Still Rules, but they don't have Judgment Day 2002 in stock (which came out yesterday).

Hmm.

Hmm.

A lot of times, stores are only worried about the big budget, widespread released movies that are released on DVD, and it takes a week or so for them to get in less important titles. If they don't have Judgement Day in a week or two, check elsewhere like a wrestling site, or other stores.

This is a very stupid idea. Just so you know you don't need a credit card, you can order with check or money order as well. If you do that you're usually excluded from those special deals though.

Guest TheSmarkzone

Well, Shopzone says that you can only get the Judgment Day DVD through them, which is something that they've never done with a DVD before.

It might be exclusive for a couple of months, then the retail and online stores will have it in stock again.

I'm guessing this is a one time only thing. Maybe the WWE is just trying to see what kind of sales JD would do if they only sold the tape on their merchandise site instead of selling it in stores.

Was anyone gonna buy the DVD anyway??

I'll just get it off ebay if I see it cheap

I was since I was in attendence for that one... and I should be on screen most of the night as well... My 15 Seconds of self imposed fame...

I'm thinking that this is a mistake, or a one-time promotion or something, because otherwise, it just doesn't make sense... especially since it hasn't really been confirmed anywhere, I'll take it with a grain of salt.

Although in the end, it's not like I was planning on purchasing any WWE DVDs aside from Royal Rumble 2K2 (the only PPV I've seen that I forgot to tape) and one or two of the "Attitude" series anyway...

My guess is that it is Shopzone Exclusive for the first few months after it is released and then its allowed to be sold by other places afterwards. The theory goes that "hardcore" fans who buy all the DVDs the second they come out (who does that with all the DVD's/Videos anyway?) will resort to paying the premium to buy it from Shopzone rather than wait an absurdly long time. They'll sucker a few people in for sure, and at 35 bucks a DVD, most of that is profit for them (since we know it doesnt cost 8 bucks to s&h a DVD)

Kinda off topic but wouldn't it be cool if NWA:TNA sold their first month on DVD with the four shows, interviews, etc?

I'd buy for 40-50 dollars.

Off note again, but were can I get these descramblers? Im sick and tired of shelling out money for the wwe.

Remember that the original Steve Austin "Cause Stone Cold Said So" video was only available by calling an 800-number during its initial release. When WWF Video became alive and kicking they re-released it as a "best of" video with new footage.

I wouldn't be too worried...

Well all I know is that I'm not buying any more DVDs.
