the thread Metallica fans where afraid to start.

Guest Respect The 'Taker

Really, it sickens me to see so called 'Metallica Fans' abandon their heroes so easily.

I'm a proud member of Met Club, and im an enourmous Metallica fan, all you gotta do is take one good look at my room to realise that.

First of all, i HATE how every stupid, moronic metal head out there states that Load and ReLoad are TRASH. Firstly, i'd love to see you produce anything that would even come CLOSE to matching either album, secondly ( i have defended this topic for about 6 fucking years now ) Metallica EVOLVED, like every REAL band does. If Metallica had stayed 'Thrash Metal' they would of died out with all the OTHER Thrash Metal bands of the era, i demand ANY so called Metallica Fan to name ONE other Thrash Metal band that exists today.

The evolution process obviously saw Metallica change drastically, but i don't think it was for the worse. If anything, it proved Metallica was far more then just 'another metal band'.

I suggest you look up on the facts before voicing an uneducated opinion. Jason Newsted left the band because James Hetfield felt that Jason should not be able to release his Echobrain record while also being in Metallica. There was, of course, a LOT more to it than that as well as Jason's current physical problems.

I also suggest you listen to the track recorded by Ja Rule & Metallica before running out screaming "METALLICA SOLD OUT I NO LONGER CALL MYSELF A MET FAN".

...I could carry on, but eh...i have better things to do right now.

Metallica Rule......you don't :D

Slayer still exists and they are thrash metal.

Load is an excellent album (i don't understand how anybody hates it, unless its too soft. Fuck that its the musical quality it counts not the damn distortion and fast tempo)

Re-load was halfed rushed and it should have been a double-disc with Load.

Newsted left because he didn't have problems with himself. He felt like the rest of the band was egomaniacs especially James, and that they were too worried about Napster still. He also felt he was unnoticed in the band, and wanted to start a side project, which none of Metallica members would let him. (and Echobrain CD wasn't all that great either)

I HAVE almost all the Metallica CDs. I have Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, ... And Justice For All, The Black Album, Load, ReLoad, and S&M.

I LIKE Metallica... they just pale in comparison to GNR.

yea in 1991 everyone was a Metallica fan (I was only 7, so I dont count) but now people treat them like a trend...and they should shut their mouths, because Id bet some of you think the Black Album was their first

sadly...I did think the Black Album was there first one (when it first came out) ...and I didn't really like them...it was only after I watched the S&M concert on VH1 that I went out and got that CD, the Black Album, and Justice For All that I really really liked them and appreciated how good they were...

I still like them...and have heard demos of their new stuff...it sounds pretty good...

I think "Deciever" is going to kick ass

I own all Metallica CD's and all Guns N' Roses CD's and personally, i honestly believe that Metallica surpass anything and everything Gunners has ever done. Guns N Roses cover album, the Spaghetti Incident, is NOTHING on Garage Inc., Metallica's cover album. While Appetite for Destruction is one motherfucking rockin' album, and i love it to death, i believe Kill Em All, Ride The Lightening, Master of Puppets & ...And Justice for All! go much further musically then GNR's album.

However, everyone has their own opinion, and im sure a hardcore Metallica fan like myself and a dedicated Gunner like Mr Rant could argue for centuries on who is better and still not resolve anything.

But who really cares? Metallica & Guns N Roses are both the definition of MUSIC and what it is supposed to do.

Puppet or Lightning is my favorite. I'd have to listen to them to remember which. Justice was their last album i bought as a fan. I later bought the rerelease of Garage Days but only becuase i didn't feel like spending $25-$40 for a original copy.

Now before those who feel like they need to defend a bunch of greedy old men attack me let me point out that i've never considered myself to be a "hardcore metallica fan".

I liked the first 4 albums alot. Black isn't a bad album by any means, but i just didn't care for it. After Black they became a different band and i simply didn't care for the new sound. Since i never claimed any loyalities to them i just stopped listening or caring about them.

I have no problem with them growing and trying new stuff i mean it's their choice. Hell i even like bands trying different things because the same old shit all the time gets boring. So me turning against Metallica had nothing to do with wanting them to never change, i just didn't like the sound of what they became.

Even when the changed i didn't have a strong dislike for them just choose to not listen to the new stuff. After all the shit with Napster is when i really begun to dislike them strongly. They just showed themselves to be greedy old men that care about their money more then their fans(new or diehard). And that from a band who may not have a career if not for bootleg tapes.

So in conclusion the music isn't why i dislike Metallica now.

Exactly what is this definition of music you speak of?

On a side note, Anthrax still exist today, unless I'm mistaken, but they've also managed to grow somewhat.

And the Ja Rule song is just plain bad. It's horribly disjointed, but the riffs do sound like they could have made good songs.

Load was a good album, but it wasn't up to Metallica standards. If any other band would've put it out people would've thought it was great.

Re-Load was garbage though, no matter what anyone says I'll always think it sucks. It was recorded at the same time as Load and there's a reason that the songs that were picked for Load were picked......they were better! When Metallica found out they were riding this huge wave of popularity they threw that crap on a disc and it sold. Hey, give 'em credit they're making a ton of money.

Garage Inc. was pretty good except for "Tuesdays Gone" too bad Jerry Cantrell got mixed up in that mess. The disc with the older covers is much better.

As far as the GNR debate goes. That's a tough call. I was shocked when someone stated that GNR only had one good album. Anything that GNR released except for Spaghetti incident blew Load, Garage Inc. and Reload out of the water. Appetite and both Illusions were better then the Black album, and Lies is close. So (too me) it comes down to Appetite and Illusions v. Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice for all. I'll take Appetite and Ride as my two favorites from each band. That's really tough, I'll have to think on it for a while. One thing that Appetite did though that any Metallica album can't claim was that it gave the music scene a collective kick in the balls. It was a revolutionary album, and if Axl Rose wouldn't have been arguably the biggest Prima Donna in music history who knows what GNR could've accomplished.

My two faves for each band are Appetite and Master of Puppets...

cause I'm a mark for "Thing That Should Not Be" and "Welcome Home(Sanitarium)" <-- the first Metallica song I ever heard

What is music supposed to acheive? What is it supposed to do to a person?

Answer that, and you got yourself my personal definition of 'music'

Does anyone think the GNR vs. Metallica "feud" on this board will ever be resolved? Nah, me neither...

Oh, and "selling out" is a phrase people use when they think a band puts money above the fans or the music. It's sometimes by jealousy, but to suggest it's only used in jealousy is absurd. Not to reopen any old wounds or anything, but I consider Metallica's huge legal tirade against Napster to be "selling out" in its purest form, but I'm not jealous of them by any means. I don't want to be Metallica, goodness no... although putting on a concert with a symphony would be freakin' cool.

Anyway, even though I've made it clear in the past that I'm not a Metallica fan by any means, I've also made it clear that Master of Puppets is an awesome album, and if a non-fan can say that, it must be their best.

Side-note: the black album wasn't their first album? Who cares? :P

I like Metallica... but I think GNR had better songwriting and I guess more substance to their music. Plus they did everything from love ballads to fuck you music to good old fashion rock and roll while Metallica kinda did just the same thing (it is good... don't get me wrong) and now is a hard rock band.

Slash is much better than Kirk Hammet on the guitar. my guitar teacher who is a classical guitarist of 46 years even says that GNR is the better band and a lot of the solos in GNR are classics.

adding a new subtopic now... what do you think would happen if it came out to the public that Kirk Hammet is gay??? I think most likely they'll just turn into a floating joke like Judas Priests did.

I think that topic has crossed everyones mind.

continuing the comparison to GnR, how many albums did they make before sucking...1

Agreed. BUT, how many albums did Metallica make before sucking? 0 the ja rule situation solidifies my position further. as did the kid rock remix..the country song they did on load..the general suckdom (even to their hard core fans) of Reload...the napster situation...even looking at their music semi-objectively (which I can barely do, admittedly) they totally went to shit after Burton died...but then again things like that tend to happen when the most talented member of a band suddenly isn't there. To make a GNR comparison, Imagine Slash dying and being replaced by one of the slipknot guitarists. Same effect. Cliff carried that band until they got famous, and they've been resting on their laurels ever since.

Cliff never carried the band.

What carried the band...and sad enough as it is, was Kirk Hammett solo's, and James ability to play fast riffs and his screetching voice.

Cliff Burton is good, but he never carried the band.

and what country song on Load are you talking about?
