I bitch, therefore I am.

All right. This topic comes up often. Hell, I bring it up often. I'm bringing it up again, and I want responses. Don't read and disregard. Read and reply.

We put together a great show for Smarkdown. Great matches, good promos to keep our angles moving forward...and who the hell cares? I look at the commentary thread and I see that 12 different people are responsible for the 18 comments. Only 8 of those people said word one about the actual content of the show itself. Ten of the people who were bloody BOOKED ON SMARKDOWN have NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT THE SHOW.

Why the hell is this??? Seriously, what is the point? I know schedules are busy. I know we have jobs and lives. I know we no-show matches sometimes, I know we all get hectic at different times. But is it SO DAMN HARD to say something about a match? About an angle you liked? Maybe about an angle you HATE? Is anyone else interested in what's happening with Tod and XF9, or am I the only one? Did anyone even read Lerrin Breggan's debut match? What about Flesher and Magnifico? Is the intrigue between the Clan, Carnival, and Magnificent Seven worth your time, or not?

I'm putting together between 10 and 15,000 words of writing a week for this game of ours! Most of the rest of you are too! Why should I or you do this if significantly less than half of the people on our roster have anything to say about what I'm doing? The same goes for everyone.

I want people to start caring enough about this to take half an hour of their time to read a few parts of each show at least, and then take 10 more minutes to say a few things about it! That's not hard at all, and that is NOT too much to ask from a group that spends hours each week writing these things.

If you don't give a shit about what everyone else or even what you yourself do for this fed, say it right here. If you do, then say something about all the hard work we do. Take 30 minutes and read a match or two on Smarkdown! If the show isn't interesting enough to merit your time, then fucking call everyone on it and egg them on to make the product you pour your little e-fed heart into good enough to be worth your time! Say something!

I want to see evidence that you care about what we all do...or evidence that you don't. Get to it.

you know what Edwin.

I agree, and too some extent that's why sometimes I don't bother to write if people don't read your match/promo's instead post on the damn lawn thread (spawned by me).

"Yup...

...if you can spend your time writing promos and matches, why can't you guys write a 5 or 10 line response to a show?

I don't see what's so hard about it. Respond with anything in regards to the show...just respond. If it's not the most witty response ever, I'm sure people will forgive you.

I'm first to admit that I don't read the whole shows... often I skim because it's alotta reading. Nonetheless the majority of the shows I look for things, like how well they put each other over, were there close falls, cool/innovative spots?

Just stuff to make these shows worthwhile... I'm positive you guys can do this... because I want to be the laziest mofo in this fed. ;)

Edwin writes things of beauty dudes, and reads practically every tidbit of info on the show, complimenting and suggesting ways to make it better... with the JL as well... that's hectic... Not to mention fulltime English major... if he can put this much in... I think half of you can do half of that... which isn't that much.

You guys... I've been here for close to two years... very few breaks. I've seen us at our best and at our worst. Let's get some replies... make us feel worth it. Thugg and X had a very similar problem back in their time... they had awesome bits of writing yet were seldomly let known. It doesn't seem like a big deal... but I can honestly say... everytime I read something about one of my matches... it makes me want to write one more show... I'm sure you all are the same.

Come on dudes... let's work with this.

I said this a week ago.

I realize I haven't made my *real* reply to that show yet either, and I apologize for that.

However, you're dead on as I said before.

I'm guilty, usually. It mainly comes from being so late, I don't have anything to add that hasn't been said half a dozen times - my response would be:

"Good show. Good promos. Good matches."

When there's something really great/really weird, I can usually find something to say - I'd just hate to follow up everyone else with:

"Yea that was a good show."

I'll work on it, though, because you're 100% co-rrect, Edwin.

like JD said...and even though i don't follow much on the SWF lately, no-one gets critizied for what we do for the efforts to put in the match, and people go "Oh i like this match" and no reason.

No one gives anyone a valid reason to why they like or dislike the match. Or anyone to improve on spots, technical description, grammar, commentary, etc...

Personally... and I'll be honest... I treat the comments thread almost like a spoilers thread. If there's something everyone's talking about (example: Smarkdown's JD match and Edwin's match against Spider and TBS), I'll read it. I read the results for angle happenings. Other than that... honestly, I'm like the Wrestlemania X8 commercial, in that I don't care about anyone else but me.

Sorry... but that's just me.

If only 1 person says it and everyone else keeps quiet because "it's already been said" the person who wrote the match thinks only 1 person read or liked it!

Just because your opinion is the same as someone else's doesn't make it less valid or appreciated.

Nuh uh1! Not evryonme!

And to reply to Stubby, I know it's not much of an excuse. But there are people who will say:

So and so's match ruled all! The pacing was spectacular, great psychology, etc etc.

And if you want to know the truth, I wouldn't recognize good pacing if it came up and kicked me in the shin. More often than not, I read a match and either like it or don't like it. I can't tell too often if the psychology is good, or if it has "flow". So that doesn't leave me with too much to say.

Well I've been meaning to review one or two matches from the show, but I've I had my hands full with the Z match as of late. Sorry. What I don't get is where is TNT, Z, and Frost. They always used to have huge ass, detailed comments on the shows. Not to target you guys, but I'am just curious as to why y'all quit.

BTW, the show's are a lot of reading. Especially with the huge ass roster, and tons of promos. Evidently people care enough to write all that, maybe their to burned out afterwards to comment on it.

That's cool, Mike. At least you're reading some stuff...but...if you do read some stuff...comment on it! Doesn't matter what it is, doesn't matter if you're in the JL, none of that shit matters.

"Ash eating a urinal cake! Fucking hilarious! I love it!"

or

"Edwin pinned Strangler? What a dick...obviously the right way to do it would have been to pin Spider so Strangler would still be undefeated since his return. I like the table spot though, that was inventive."

ANYTHING! Even if you don't have much to say, if you have anything to say, say it. I know for a fact that when I see a comments thread with 15, 20, 25, 30 interesting replies to it, I feel damn good about what we do. That probably goes for everyone else too.

typical stubby answer.

but then you might get 15 or so replies on the main event, yet you got some like me a bottom feeder/jobber in the opening card and when i write a match will probably get no comments since i'm not in the mainevent

I skim like a bastard and then go to make comments, but I see they've already been made. If I see anything noteworthy, I talk to the guy who wrote it in the chat.

If you want comments, get in the chat around the time the show is going up. I'm not sure that most of you can hang out there that late (most of you like on the east coast, it seems) but you can always pop in around the morning and catch the pary's aftermath.

I couldn't possibly agree with Edwin any more. While I rarely have time to read all the way through a show, I do try and give feedback when and where I can. I've been busting my ass since my return last month, and I know I give people a good show, but it's still nice to see it in black in white that my hard work is being noticed. My last promo has been viewed more than thirty times, yet it only has three replies. I know it's not perfect, and I also know that no more than four people in the WF or JL know what the hell it's referring to. Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Random lawn jokes? Anything? C'mon, people...

Hmm... shows are good. As is talking about them... but it's understandable that people are posting less since I started working backstage and stopped main-eventing.

Blah. I feel bad now, because I'm completely guilty of this.

Hell, I think in the past couple days, Edwin asked me *three* times to go comment on the the show. I actually promised him I'd do a 'special' smarky recap-esque thing on the show, in total SK fashion... but I didn't. (To my credit, I did read a fair part of Smarkdown and start to write, but then I realized the sheer *scale* of the shows we have. It's practically impossible. I decided to do the main event, but then went to chat to do... whatever. It kinda' faded away on me from there. I may still do it yet, but please don't hold me to that.)

You know, now that I think about it, that's really the source of my problem. I'm a total procrastinator. I do it so much and so often, I get caught up in my own web of 'let's put it off.' Even for just little, teensy tiny things. I get on AIM or go to chat and gab with people, completely distracting myself from any kind of work. I think I need someone to constatly nag at me when I should be doing something, but I'm on AIM...

/me imagines his next chat with Edwin...

reality55check: Hey.

Friar Funk: Hey. Comment on Smarkdown, would you?

reality55check: Later. I came on AIM to put stuff off.

Friar Funk: Comment on Smarkdown.

reality55check: But I want to talk to you about nothing for two hours, avoiding any sort of work!

Friar Funk: Comment on Smarkdown.

reality55check: Dammit! No!

Friar Funk: Yes. Comment on Smarkdown.

reality55check: Argh. If I say yes and pretned to do it, will you shut up?

Friar Funk: No. And if you don't comment, I'll warn you.

reality55check: ...fine.

Friar Funk: W00tylicious. And start your match, too!

/me ends dream sequence. I think you get the idea. Basically, what I'm saying is a read pretty much *everything,* but I'm almost never inclined to comment. I just get caugt up in the web of putting things off. Now that I'm feeling all guilty and stuff, I'd go comment now... but I'd just be putting off my match even more, which I've *also* procrastinated.

Who will probably regret giving people ideas...

OK....Edwin...you are dead on. And this is something that you and I have been talking about since back when we were running my last angle and I've been saying it since I was running that angle with X.

Now, I usually get into the comments thread and post some pretty decent comments. I know I didn't do it for smarkdown...and that's because I was quite sick of the show. It was a good show, but I was just sick of it because I was getting tons of PMs and IMs about it and about storm and I was reading through it constantly as I tried to figure out where to put the promos that you people DON"T label...which is another issue in itself. Also, I posted a very detailed summary, which I thought was enough to suffice as my comments on the show. Seriously though....I had about 15 IMs for at least 2 hours before the show went up and at least an hour after I posted the Storm card. Of course, I don't mind discussing things with eveyrone on IM...which I'm sure people know that they can IM me anytime to chat about anything...however, by that point, all I wanted to do was put the show behind me and move onto Storm. It's a lot of work to put together these shows, read them, and then book the next card...so I was done.

Anyway, I'll try to get back to my detailed comments like i was doing before...but yeah...comeon guys. There's no worse feeling than working your ass off to make a match/promo/angle as tight as you can, and then having no one even take notice.

We're our own fans people....if we don't care, then who will?

I've been bad about this kind of thing in the past, but since my return, I've been trying to get really involved in this league. And if everyone just found one thing they liked in a match, or a promo, and commented on it, it'd make the fed better. Because, face it, we all love to see someone write "Hey, I really enjoyed your match." or "That promo was really good", and then be able to back it up. And it's important to have the feedback from each other. The real wrestling feds have the crowds to get feedback from, but we ain't a real fed, and we don't have fans. We need to turn to each other to figure out what was good, what was bad, and what was fucking awful (hint: for the awful stuff, find anything JD writes. That usually fits the bill.)

One thing I would like to mention is that people should comment on the comments. Why should I take a half hour to write detailed comments on the show if no one reads them or gets any use out of them? If I say something like, "I didn't quite understand what Edwin was going for with that spot," I would like him to explain it. Or if I say, "TNT could really improve his match flow if he worked more on his chain wrestling," I would like him to say "Hey thanks, I'll try that, any specific ideas on what I can do with that." Comments need to do more than just say, "yeah, yeah, I read the show."

As Deathwish said I used to do pretty detailed comments down in the SJL and I'll try to start that up again with Storm tomorrow. I never thought they were read or appreciated by many people down there, but I see that trend is a little different here. Of course, I also felt like I was a noob all over again and I didn't want to overstep my boundaries by commenting on the writing of guys who have been around a lot longer than I have. I'm also still getting used to the different SWF schedule and segmenting my time properly. In the future I'll try to comment more. Thanks.

Frosty, you can say whatever ya want. There's no real dues-paying or "staying in line" thing. If you think something about someone's writing, say whatever.

And I agree about the comments. I'd love to see our comments threads end up being multi-page discussions about angles, styles, choices, whatever. We write all this, so we should have as much fun with it as we can.
