To those who refuse to watch Smackdown

What's more insulting than their total lack of respect for history is their complete obliviance to the mistakes of history that they're repeating. They're trying to make an angle out of using Eric Bischoff as a "sign everyone to try and pop rating" character, while they themselves imitate that attitude by signing him to pop a rating! Golberg is next, and so on

->That is a sort of bitter irony isn't it? I find absolutely no reward in being a fan of over a decade. No, I don't want a pat on the back, but a 'thank you' would be nice. Not verbal, not written, but by actually referring to history in the broadcasts. I bet you anything that what we watch today won't be remembered 5 years from now..SO WHY WATCH? What do we get? (hell, 1 year from now it wont be remembered..whats a brand extention?)

You know what? Fuck everyone who says Rick Flair has no place on TV anymore. I wasn't even that hot on his matches that everyone was pimping from this year, but God Dam, he's the only guy I can name who not only payes homage to wrestling's history, but does it to put over the WWE as a company; to put over wrestling as an industry. None of this "Revisionist History that No One Cares About to Begin With" that Bischoff and Michaels use in ridiculous attempts at laying a backstory, but actual tributes to wrestling's lineage that has taken it to where it is now.

The reason I thought of that is that the only thing I can think of that the WWE has done to so much as tip their hat to long-time fans is the video package they put together earlier in the year reviewing the WWE's history. And who was the guy who presented it? Rick Flair.

And to trauma, I say this: There is always an alternative, be it in the indies, Japan, Mexico, or simply turning to the old stuff. Hell, if the WWE would take the time to actually watch their classic shows or those in WCW's library, they might actually learn something that could be of use to them intead of alternating between signing ever potential ratings-grabber and re-hashing the usual "Those darn MachMahon's" crap.

That is true, and I do have a host of both tapes and DVD's that I view occasionally, but I still like watching ongoing storylines with new talent. That's just me. Unfortunately, I can't really attend indie shows because of school and work and whatnot, and I can't afford to keep buying foreign tapes so as to actually keep in sync with whatever storylines they might be running. Therefore, I am in fact forced into watching the WWE, and I will make the best out of it.

I'm merely pointing out that it doesn't cost most to get a good portion really good wrestling that you probably haven't seen yet. Circumstances can often make this more dificult, but I think everyone reaches a point where they get fed up with wrestling due to the usual shit the WWE forces us to eat, and exploring a new outlet can be the best cure for that, or so I've found.

I agree, Ricky. And that's why I bought both Anarchy Rulz '99 and Barely Legal on DVD from amazon.com today.

Well, good for you. Watch the Michinoku Pro six man tag on Barely Legal as soon as you get the DVD, because that match rocks. :)

I must be in the minority, but for me, since the split SD has had the majority of the good/entertaining shows. On Raw, the only guys I really care about are Benoit, Eddie, Booker, Flair, Regal, RVD. SD has Jericho, Angle, the cruisers, Storm, Christian, Bautista (yep).

Shit, Flair coming out night after night and just talking about the history that he's had 'in this building' was fan-farkin-tarstic. I was totally diggin that! The history montages, the first time in a LONG time that a sense of TRADITION was given to the Wwf, it was beautiful. I have no idea why they stopped.

Yeah, I totally dug all of his little ancidotes about various towns, and generally giving a feeling that wrestling has actually exhisted for more than five years, as much as the WWE usually goes against that. The Desire video they did was probably the last classy thing the WWE did.

Oh come on! The Golden Thong award wasn't classy?

I think if they went the sensible and logical route of naming Shane the GM, everyone would be raving about the show.
