Guest Coffin Surfer Report post Posted July 20, 2002 ELM/Spider match review and analysis to be edited in some time to tommorow. From what I've read.........I WON! Though damn that no selling bastard Z, for coming out riding on top of a golf cart later in the show, after getting knocked out from a Backdrop Driver on a turnbuckle and a Sheer Drop Brainbuster in the opening match. Oh and please somebody tell me, Was the commentary good and was my match more exciting with all the caps and what not.
Guest chirs3 Report post Posted July 20, 2002 1) This a plea to Stubby and Thugg... After reading Outcast's promo at the top of the show, and his promo towards the middle of it... DO NOT EVER BOOK ME TO FIGHT HIM! PLEASE! I'M BEGGING YOU! 2) TNT sucks, because we used Chilly Chilly Bang Bang and the crowd laughed - but he used it before us and there was no laughing. Way to screw with us, you... uh... yea. It was his idea, by the by. 3) I really liked the Taylor/Strangler promo after the show. Taylor can be a smarmy little biatch, and Strangler... well, since he's part of M7, Edwin says I have to say that he "loves the Cock". But still, awesome promo. 4) Z! Why I oughtaaaa... 5) MerCeDez too? Bah! Well, with promos and results out of the way, I'm going to get dinner, then read a few choice matches. Back in a while! Guest 5_moves_of_doom Report post Posted July 20, 2002 Yes Danny, I must say, the caps and whatnot REALLY helped your match, which was good/great on its own. You're also getting much better at your commentary and whatnot. Though wrestling may be better in Japan, for commentary, the American style is just...well...a hell lot better. -Taylor "LARIOTO!!!! LARIOTO!!!! LARIOTOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!" Thompson
Guest Coffin Surfer Report post Posted July 20, 2002 Though wrestling may be better in Japan, for commentary, the American style is just...well...a hell lot better. I stongly disagree with that statement. JR-He's a monster BY GAWD! King-Puppies!.......She's a fat ass. Where the Japanese commentors as far as I can tell, actually go deep into the backstory and psychology of the match. You can tell that by how apeshit the guy goes during 6/3/94 when Misawa simply gives Kawada the Backdrop. Without backstory that isn't a big deal. But the annoucer goes apeshit because the move was Jumbo's finisher. Jumbo was THE MAN, until Misawa beat him to become THE MAN. Misawa gives Kawada the move, to remind him that he still THE MAN, and Kawada is still only second best. I imagine that was what the commentor was explaining when he went apeshit. I need to learn to speak Japanese. I find that more interesting than the idiotic ramblings of a lunatic like JR, and King's "I'am a horny old man" act. But Nobody touches Ventura, Heenan, and NWA Jim Ross.
Guest Thoth Report post Posted July 20, 2002 Wow, great stuff top to bottom. Great promos from Outcast and the Carnival... and for some reason I really loved Danny's match. BACKDROPU DRIVAAAHH! I love puro. I wonder if Spider wrote this time, as well.
Guest Kibagami Report post Posted July 20, 2002 The ELM/Spider match rocked the party that rocked the body. Outcast's promo also rocked said party. See how cool promos can be, kids? It's fun. Now you try. Did Taylor write the Thoth/Strangler match? I liked the match a good deal, but it didn't seem like Strangler's style, or Thoth's, for that matter. As a fledgling puro mark, it's good to see Deathwish's commentary improving to match his bangin' matches. WARGAMES! WHOO! @ WARGAMES! I mark out tremendously for this stuff...the 92' WarGames that blew off the Dangerous Alliance angle is one of my top three favorite matches, ever. I have no doubt that this match will equal or surpass the '92 match. Rock on. S.
Guest 5_moves_of_doom Report post Posted July 20, 2002 To clear that up Danny, when I made that statement, I was thinking of old Jim Ross, Ventura, Gorrilla, and Heenan, not King. So don't take it the wrong way. -Thompson "Apeshit Japanese Commentator" Thompson "ELBOW! ELBOW! ELBOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Guest Tyler McClelland Report post Posted July 20, 2002 Pretty damn solid show... Opening promo I wrote it. Therefore, it sucks.... Read it, guys. I spent a bit of time on it. Danny's match M'boy won his first hyped match... great job, Danny. I've got a new promo coming out as soon as I can. Frost and TNT Need to get you guys a bit more of an edge... but it was good for what it was. Seemed kinda thrown together, however. Lerrin and JD vs. Merc and Ced I wish Merc would write... he's one of the best talents in the fed. Oh well... JD wrote the match, so it sucks Playin. A bit short, seemed like a "They're gonna no-show, so who cares?" match. Another Tyler joint... Junk is tight. Storylines = (Y) LDP vs. Tod Nicely written match, but... Get rid of the asterisks... they suck. Seriously. Carnivan promo junk You bums are gonna get toasted now that I'm on the Mag (5) team. Well written as always, however. ELM vs. Spider Looked like an ELM storyline loss... I'd like to see Spider write again, he's a very good writer when he does it... But, for the storyline purposes, ELM did an exceptional job. Good match. TBS vs. Thoth Hmm... it was pretty good... but I wasn't particularly IMPRESSED, so to speak. So shoot me... I don't know. The commentary was a bit bland and the match was a little short... I don't know how close it was to the word limit, but it just read pretty short. Nothing bad, but nothing great either. TBS's promo Good stuff, nice in-show interview promo thingy. I liked it, served its purpose well. Main event Hot match, leads into the PPV show well... both matches were great, actually, now that I read the M7 one... Overall scores -------------------------- Promos I'm biased, I wrote promos for this show... so... ***** Matches The main event saved it, but... I dunno, I wasn't impressed with most of the matches. M'boy Danny had a good one that he put a lot of effort into and the main event was quite good... but it looked a bit thrown together for the other ones. Wait, Mag's was good, too... **1/2 OVERALL Good show building to a hot PPV... ****
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted July 20, 2002 Nice analysis, Cast. I think you're slighting the matches a little bit, because Danny's was a whole new level from him: that match was great in my eyes. It picked up the pace, adding a ton of excitement...Danny's quickly working on making his NJPW style more understandable AND palatable to us, and I love that. Granted, that match is the only one I've read thus far, so you might be right...but with a start that hot, and a finish that hot (come on, Thugg gave it 33 points! I can gloat a teense once in a while, can't I?), my guess is that it's gonna be a bit better than **1/2. But I'll give my full eval tomorrow. The promos are great. I'd already seen your opening strat, Cast System, but it worked wonders here. Those two promos, PLUS the in-ring return announcement in Wilson's promo afterwards...suddenly, Tyler McClelland is a whole new creature in the SWF, and something that even I hadn't really counted on having to face in the WarGames match. Great work on those...as always, I'll criticize a bit for perhaps the overly serious nature and all the focus on death, but considering the rather dark tone of my board promos lately, I'm not one to say much. Good stuff. I know it's just a little thing, but I really liked the little Thugg bit with Riley and Stevens hyping the show. Always been a fan of stuff like that. I really dug the TNT & Frost promo, the hype for the match. Got the two personalities over a bit, and I like the clashing-moods vibe I'm getting from the team, but I think you guys need to decide if you want to play for comedy or seriousness. Or, play for one at one time, and one at the other. This did a good job of establishing you guys as a viable force, but I think the humorous moments of Frost & TNT should be separated from the serious moments at this point, since you guys are members of the present dominant heel stable and all. I like both approaches though, and whoever said they're getting a Snow/Blackman vibe...I agree. But this is a loooot better in my eyes, and you're already working with a good relationship. As for the next Outcast vignette, the one with Danny...good that you brought the Danny-and-hired-woman thing back up again. That was cool, and I was worrying you'd forgotten about it. But god dammit, if THIS ONE dies too...you and me are gonna have to have a talk about your issues, Mssr. Ashburn. Heh heh. My Carnie promo, setting up Wargames...well, I liked it. A bit rushed, and Edwin's dialogue is not the best; I need to work on his more intense bits. But altogether, I was happy with it, and hope it didn't end up being too long. The Strangler promo for him and Erek...a goodie! I'm sure it ties in better once I've read the whole match, but I like what I'm seeing. Good slinging of words, and I like Erek's smarmy face routine. Builds great heat for another big PPV match...I'll say, we've been having some marvelous steady builds of late, that's for sure. I would like to see a bit of an XF9 reaction to Erek's slightly devious ways, though, screwing Strangler for the title, getting in his face like this...with the way Pete's been lately, XF9's been feeling like a tweener-face group, and that's actually kind of cool. I'd like to see a big group roundtable board promo between XF9 dealing with some charater stuff, because I haven't seen anything like that in a while. That's all I've got for now. Further match commentary tomorrow, but holy shit, it's 3. Comments are looking great so far, everyone.
Guest Tyler McClelland Report post Posted July 20, 2002 My problem with the matches was more of a disappointment thing than a "They sucked" thing. Guest Beingz0wningj00 Report post Posted July 20, 2002 Seeing as I read the matches I've marked already... most were great. Spider barely got the win over ELM folks... that little slut had a cool ending but blarg...I dunno. Post your match, ho. The Blackmist and Stigmata combo is just hard to beat. Tod deKindes joint wrote, so the joining of XF9 is awesome. Strangler... not cool. and Deathwish/Z... Zed... die. I think Outcast got me and Lerrin correct... we weren't as into the match as we should have been. Rest to comelater folks... gotta sleep off this hangover. Guest Rabbi_wilson13 Report post Posted July 20, 2002 A thought: In a shocking turn of events, people actually promoed and responded to promos right after Storm, thus showing life on the board and that people care. Perhaps we should pin the shows until the next show comes up? Just a thought, and now on to my comments, second edition since the first ones were lost in a terrible, terrible computer crash. * I got to see OC's promo earlier and I liked it then, and I like it a lot more now. It really gets him over as quite insane and evil. And now that he's in WarGames, Raynor's seriously going to start crying. Poor kid. * Danny Williams + Emotion and Excitement = Not Good for you j0o0o0!1!!1 * Frost and TNT have a great promo and show with that and their losing match they're going to be one formidable team. And they're in WarGames, too. Muhahahahaha. * CC starts off strong. When Sacred gets back, they're gonna be tough. I wish Merc would get going again, instead of just kinda floating around. * Tyler is insane and evil, in case you didn't know. The techinical marvel that will be Outcast vs. Deathwish somewhere far, far down the road would be beee-yootiful. * I'm going to have to agree that I don't really like the ***'s. It's a good match, and XF9 is justas tough as some of the bigger and more experienced groups now. Stablemania in the WF. * Carnival challenging for WarGames. Silly gooses. Thoth wants a piece, too? All right Mr. Slowburn face turn. It's time to go! * Spider Nekura vs. ELM rocks the house. These two need a rematch down the road. Good to see Spider being suitably evil again. * Why, that evil bastard Erek Taylor! He's going to pay come Ground Zero. Man, what a PPV that is going to be. WarGames, ELM/Flesher, Strangler/Taylor. All with build-up! w00t w00t! * The main event sure was purty, but I wanted to see M7 go over! Glass ceiling! GLASS CEILING!!! The Carnival sucks! Sing it with me now, people. Overall, a show that had some really, really good promos and a great main event and ELM/Spider match. Smarkdown, Ground Zero and beyond should be great. Now everyone go respond to my promo and Flesher's if you haven't. Evilness rawks.
Guest El Luchadore Magnifico Report post Posted July 20, 2002 You suck, JD. I haven't read the show in detail yet, but, as everyone has said, it looks quality from top to bottom. Congrats to my Carnie brethren for a successful defense. And Spider actually did write that match, and very well, I might add. I'll post mine in a little bit. Guest AnnieEclectic Report post Posted July 20, 2002 I'm not reading anyone elses comments before posting my own so If I repeat so be it. I reccomend everyone else try this form of commenting as well, makes you feel less stupid before writing. Read the show, and may I say that the flagging tag division doesn't seem to be anymore and that.... is a GOOD thing I'm starting a new convention, if you dont like it too bad. ANNIE'S TOP 3 MARKOUTS OF THE NIGHT! Let's see if you, yes -you- made it. If you aren't on the list, please take no disrespect as a 5 star match doesn't always have a markout moment in them. I'm just going to point out where and when I said 'holy shit!' 3) Z v. Deathwish. I actually thought Z was going to win that one, with quick pacing and moves coming from nowhere, this was a fun read, and it was the opener too! You gotta have good vibes about a show when the opener is good. (Y) at this match. 2) Chilly Chilly Bang Bang. What more needs to be said? 1) Edwin's combo surprise Challenge + Thoth beating down Mag 7. I could tell he had an ace up his sleeve, i knew it had to be someone shocking, honestly though he was going to pull out a former Carnie to pull in, but it was Thoth, and damn I enjoyed that. "So says.... the Clan" I like that And... WARGAMES!!!!! C'mon! Y'all are crazy to try and write this match, and It's going to be insane to read, I can't wait. Congrats to the winners, except Jay Dawg because come September I'm going to take that pretty little belt for myself! BONG! -Annie EDIT: I'm an idiot that counts down like this: 3...2....3? I suck sometimes
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted July 20, 2002 Before I pipe in with match commentary, I'd just like to say that Wargames is going to be awesome. Thanks have to go out first of all to Frost and TNT for presenting the idea in the JL as something they really wanted to do...and then they went and got bumped before they could do it. More thanks to Wilson, for coming to the "OH MY GOD LET'S DO WARGAMES" revelation at the same time I did, validating the decision to go forth with it. And thanks to Stubby for actually letting us try this. It's gonna rule, people. I am so, so excited.
Guest Rabbi_wilson13 Report post Posted July 20, 2002 Yes, I too would like to send thanks out to Stubby and Edwin for getting WarGames together. That was a pretty cool brainstorming session when myself and Edwin sent the "WAAAAARGAMES!" message at the same time, and then as we informed ensuing members of our teams and the reactions they gave. Absolutely loverly it's going to be. Ground Zero has the makings for one helluva pay-per-view, indeed.

Guest Chuck Woolery Report post Posted July 20, 2002 Comedic lines of the night, as brought to you by the Leech! Leeching off of other people's heat since December, 2000, and still going strong. Ranking in at #5, one man gives us a history lesson… “What’s the matter, Strangler? Didn’t you get the autographed Bill Buckner and Bucky Dent ball I sent you?” - From the Erek Taylor/Boston Strangler promo, Erek Taylor brings us this baseball gem. I'm a Red Sox fan, but I must give credit where credit's due… and Taylor brings back the goats of boston's history! Boo! Hiss! Clocking in at #4, this… *** Another close kick out by Tod, who gets the shoulder up in the nick of time. However, Tod ain't moving, which allows Pete to make his international "L" symbol … *** Bobby: I KNEW IT!! I KNEW IT ALL ALONG!! Longdogger Pete is FINALLY admitting that he's a LOSER!! A LOSER!! The truth comes out at last!! - From Longdogger Pete/Tod deKindes. Both comedic and insulting. Go Todski. Magical #3 gives us our mandatory video game reference for the night… Riley: “Boomshakalaka!” Stevens: “What do you think you are!? Riley: “A 1993 video game!” - From the Creative Control/Mercedez match. Maybe it's not comedic, but I'll be damned if I don't mark for NBA Jam references. #2 shows us that a little music can help intensity… or piss people off… “FOOOORUM!” “…guys, you weren’t supposed to--” “FOOOORUM!” “Stop it!” “Sorry, Edwin,” mumbles Raynor. “We like ‘forum’. It’s got a nice harmony.” - From the Midnight Carnival challenge promo to the Magnifecent Seven for a WarGames match at Ground Zero. Truly beautiful, as the sheer harmoniousness of the word forum really encompassed me here. And finally, our #1! Ladies and gentlemen, the Line of the Night that proves, yes, mocking people's sex lives is a definite cheap pop… “Young and inexperienced? I haven’t heard that since I had Suzie Watkins in the back of my El Camino on prom night. And Frosty here, (points a thumb at his partner) probably hasn’t heard that since last week.” - From the TNT/Frost promo, it's TNT, after Ben Hardy royally disses Chilly Chilly Bang Bang. What can I say? Sex jokes = Two Thumbs Up. And.. that's a wrap. Until Smarkdown, I am the Leech. - Mike Van Siclen. Goodnight.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted July 20, 2002 Full-on commentary! Already told Danny how sweet his match was, so, onward! CC vs. MerCedEz. -Loved the cocky attitudes displayed by Lerrin and JD throughout. Especially loved the fake shadowboxing with Lerrin while JD fought Ced. JD goofs off, turns around…and said socks him. Great sequences like that. Altogether though, I kinda agree with what Outcast said about his thoughts on the matches: there wasn’t anything too amazing there. I did really like the inventive double-team moves from both sides but…I dunno. Maybe I’m just spoiled on the Hide-and-Seek match. (Y) Oh, and Lerrin ‘squealing’? Get a thesaurus, guys. 285 pound men don’t squeal! Heh heh heh… Tod vs. LDP: round 2 -Frankly, I was a bit disappointed in this match. Nothing wrong with the wrestling at all; in fact, the match was explosive action from bell to bell, with a great new blood/old blood vibe to it. The blown Longdogger Legdrop in particular was sick and delicious. No, my dilemma came with the story end of it. It just feels too soon for Tod to be in XF9. Through his whole JL run, he was a loner who got screwed by everybody. Since he’s come to the WF, he’s started the program with Pete, but I haven’t seen a huge character evolution into the type of guy who’d even want to be allied with anyone. I look forward to seeing how Tod fits into the “friends-n-buddies” dynamic of XF9 with his cooler persona, but I’m still hoping for some big surprise at the PPV that goes beyond the expected and straightforward. There’s so much potential here, guys! Use it! Spider vs. Magnifico -Spider wins! The reaper returns to form. I really liked the opening here, as in about 400 words he was able to sum up all the important points of Clan/Carnival action from the last week. Makes my job a lot easier…mwa ha ha. Great reversal sequences, good cruiserweight approach for a lot of it. This is an example of a match I’d love to have said I could write; all the little touches were there. Mag doing a little lasso signal before hitting the tornado DDT? Classic. Good false finishes, good Flesher involvement to strengthen that feud…all-in-all, my favorite match tonight. Strangler vs. Thoth, with Erek as the ref -That’s an Erek-written match if I’ve ever seen one. I’m always surprised when the non-combatant wins the match. This largely served to build the ICTV feud, which is good; it’s one of the meatier battles we’ve had, and it’s refreshingly straight-up with a solid build. A good match, buuut…something doesn’t totally sit right. I think it’s that Thoth has now got a title shot, but because Erek didn’t count Strangler’s pinfall, and because Erek hit the Fame and Fury on Strangler. It really took the focus off the guy who actually won the match and the world title shot, which is usually a pretty big thing. Great, great work on advancing Erek/Strangler, but a little more credit to Thoth actually having that shot would have made it the total package. I won’t talk about the main event, except to say, phew, we won, and barely. It did everything Raynor and I wanted it to do, and apparently just did it well enough. Mad kudos to Raynor for being the most flexible tag partner I’ve ever had, and for actually adapting to story style for my suck. R0x0r. A solid show, and now having read it all through, I do kinda agree with Outcast’s prognosis. Matches were very good…I’d give them a bit more credit than his. The intermingling of stories and matches worked real well at some points, and didn’t at others, but the important thing is that we are kicking ass the way we can, trying new things, and chugging along at a breakneck pace. This is the healthiest I have seen this place in ages.
Guest Coffin Surfer Report post Posted July 21, 2002 I know I said I was going to do Spider/Elm, but I changed my mind, I'am gonig to pick on the Main Eventers. Keep in mind I'am not bashing the actual writting, this is just how I would react If I saw the match live: Edwin/Raynor vs. TNT/Frost match anlaysis. rating: *** The story is two upstart Hosses take on the veteran Tag Champs Power and Glory. Frost and Raynor start off. Raynor doesn't know how to handle someone as big and strong as him, so he gets his ass kicked. Frost wears himself out on Raynor, and tags in TNT. Raynor shows off his vet smarts, and gets the tag to Edwin by playing possum. Edwin's speed and skill is the clear cut advantage over the two slow power guys. The champ easily takes advantage of TNT's inexperience and lack of patience by kicking the shit out of him. However Edwin gets to cocky, and TNT takes control. TNT tags in Frost who levels Edwin with his awesome power. Edwin makes a few comeback attempts, but Frost's superior power puts a stop to that. Frost finally sets up Edwin for the Tiger Driver variation, but Edwin reverses with some punches and a Spinning DDT. If Frost was to use the real Tiger Driver, that would have been impossible. Despite the no selling bastard being 100% now, Edwin tags in Raynor for some reason. Raynor beats down the weary Frost, but can't maintain the advantage because he's too tired. WTF? Raynor is either doing Z esque comic overselling or he is one of the worst athletes in the SWF. Raynor has a heat stroke or something, so we have double K.O. Despite taking a Razor's Edge, Frost makes the tag first. TNT runs in but can't stop Raynor from making the tag. Than TNT goes into a blank stare, allowing Edwin to sneak up behind him, and take the time to hoist the fresh monster of the mat, and give him a Release German. Frost runs in, but Raynor falls on him. Some nice little psychology thrown in with a reversal sequence between TNT and Edwin. However Edwin still hits the Spinal Tap on TNT for the pin. Damn this match really fell apart towards the end. It started off with a great story and a good build, but than just kept getting worse and worse. Raynor was horrible and the unused TNT didn't break a sweat. Frost carried this match, and Edwin played his role as the Superface Champion very well.
