Vince McMahon shocked the world of sports entertainment when he announced that Eric Bischoff was the new general manager for RAW. This Saturday on Confidential, we'll take a look at the career of Bischoff -- from his start in the American Wrestling Association to World Championship Wrestling to his present day role in WWE.

Tune in this Saturday, right after WWE Velocity, at 11 p.m./10 p.m. ET only on TNN!

Call me crazy, but I had no clue Bishoff was even IN AWA untill he showed up in WWE. May I ask just what in the world he did in that federation? What was his posistion and such?

...have any of you guys thought about WWE and the word "the" since they changed to WWE?

 

It used to be that it was proper grammar to say THE WWF, as it stood for World Wrestling Federation. It just makes sense, and is the ring thing, to say the word "the" before THE WWF. However, now that they changed their name to WWE, which now stands for World Wrestling Entertainment, the word "the" not longer should be used before the company's name. THE World Wrestling Entertainment doesn't work, just like it didn't work with World Championship Wrestling.

 

Am I the only one that has spent moments of my life to think that over? Now that I think about it, it's yet another thing that makes WWE that much more like WCW! :D

He was a junior announcer who was inexplicably given the reins of the AWA by Verne Gagne in 1989-1990, and drove it straight into the grave (sound familiar?). He is responsible for the Team Challenge Series, the most wretched series of matches you'll ever see, which culminated in the most wretched match you'll ever see, a Turkey on a Pole match.

 

To be fair to Uncle Eric, the AWA was likely going under no matter what. Eric just gave things a really big nudge.
