Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted July 21, 2002 MTV, how many people are sick of it. There is absolutley no music videos shown throughout the day that dont have idiots screaming in the corner, or the videos cut short. Now, they hardly do anything to stay with Music...Real World? Now if anyone can figure out how people living in a house together is related to music in anyway shape or form, besides from the fact that they play songs in the background The second enemy is the Real World's retarted younger brother...Road Rules, a show of people driving around doing things, once again no music whatsoever. During the weekend when they don't broadcast new programs what do they do...re run every episode every week...kinda seems like an ample time to play videos doesn't it? MTV should get the M out...or change it to Mindless Television Questions? Comments? Concerns?
Guest SuperTonyJaymz Report post Posted July 21, 2002 MTV more or less had to evolve to stay around. And it was never really 24/7 of music videos. Even in the 80s they had game shows and whatnot. And MTV does play videos, just got to watch at the right time. Like in the morning, they play videos, and at certain points in the day, they play videos. And then theres MTV2, so yeah, i guess there is still music on MTV.
Guest MrRant Report post Posted July 21, 2002 Eh.. its like Comedy Central... Comedy Central used to be like all stand up and shows like South Park. Now its Robots and SNL 50x a day.
Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted July 21, 2002 The only time that I found the videos with interuptions tolerable was when it was Beavis and Butthead doing the interrupting. I used to watch MTVX just because they showed all kinds of AC/DC videos, but apparently my digital cable dropped that, or maybe it's gone all together. Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted July 21, 2002 yeah, MTVX kicked all kinds of ass. They had TOOL~!, and Godsmack, and some OTHER STUFF~!... yeah....good times...MTVX...I'm gonna miss it... Face it, MTV is just mainstream crap now. There are MTV lunch boxes, MTV movies, MTV video games, even MTV backpacks/book bags so kids can be cool and trendy, and other idiotic crap with their 'super cool' MTV bookbag. If it weren't for Raven and the Osbournes, I wouldn't be caught dead watching that crap... MTVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEX!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Guest chirs3 Report post Posted July 21, 2002 I wouldn't mind MTV so much if they kept good shows on, even non-music related ones. Daria, for example. But they had to be all crappy and cancel it... Add the fact we're now getting the "Hey, I'll give you 50 bucks if you do/eat/smell/drink/wear/bathe in something disgusting" show, and Road Rules and Real World are wild cards (sometimes good, more often than not bad), and you get a pretty poor channel overall... Guest Karnage Report post Posted July 21, 2002 Aren't there any other alternative music channels in the states? Up here, MuchMusic is great, but it falls victim to playing too much pop sometimes. The good stuff is that there's shows like The Punk Show, Loud, and since their's videos on all day, you will catch some good stuff on Videoflow. Much also has digital cable channels called MuchVibe (BET with music videos 24/7), MuchLoud and Much More Music which is on basic cable, but plays adult contemporary music. MTV just surfaced up here on digital cable, and they also seem to play music videos in a one or two hour block.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 21, 2002 Watching MuchMusic in the States use to be pretty cool, as you'd see a bunch of videos by bands only popular north of the border, like Tragically Hip, Tea Party, 54/40, etc. (I don't particularly like any of these bands--though the Hip has done some decent stuff). Now, I have to deal with this MuchUSA crap, which is just MTV-lite. Feh.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted July 21, 2002 MTV just surfaced up here on digital cable, and they also seem to play music videos in a one or two hour block. I think MuchMusic got pissed when MTV was granted a Canadian license, so part of the deal was that MTV Canada could only use a small percentage (somewhere around 10%-15%) of their time to play music videos. Well that explains that, but why do they only use 10-15% of their time showing videos in the US?
Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted July 21, 2002 MuchMusic USA is damn good, its only 5 channels from MTV2 and it has Uranium, which is quite good
Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted July 21, 2002 I wish The Box didn't merge with Viacom to become MTV2 because I miss most of the rap videos now that the BOX is gone.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted July 21, 2002 I have the bastard hybrid of Much USA and regular Much Music, I seem to get the best of both worlds. The Punk Show, Loud, Uranium, all of its right there for me. On a sidenote, the girl from Uranium needs to embrace me as her new master.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted July 21, 2002 I'd like to see Much USA sometime, just to compare it to the original Much.

Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted July 21, 2002 "Now its Robots and SNL (on Comedy Central) 50x a day. " Didn't E! buy the rights to SNL recently? E has 70s SNL while Comedy Central shows some of the good early 90s stuff and then the total crap of the past couple years.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 21, 2002 I think E! is showing them next season- for 2001-2002 they cut Christmas Kangaroo!
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted July 21, 2002 Face it, MTV is just mainstream crap now. Um...but MTV has always been "mainstream crap". Almost every MTV show or music video programming block has been influenced by the mainstream and what's popular. Hell even Headbanger's Ball and 120 Minutes which were "underground shows" to mtv standards were influenced by mainstream trends (hair metal & alternative music). From like midnight or 1 am to like 10 or 11 mtv shows nothing but videos so it's still there. But yes during the day it's nothing but stupid shit. MTVX doesn't exist was replaced by MTVjamz. MTVjamz as a channel makes no sense seeing as how the majority of music mtv plays is rap and r&b. I think MTV is looking to add new channels and are just trying out different formats to see which ones take off best to help them pick new channel or channels. Hopefully i'm right and MTVx has a chance to return. MuchMusic isn't bad but the only time i watch it is when Loud or Uranium are on. Still i'd watch Much before i'd watch MTV. Guest starvenger Report post Posted July 22, 2002 Well, yes, but since there's gratuitous T&A you'd figure it's a lock for a US cable station like MuchUSA.
