Guest Incandenza Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I'm at a friend's house right now, and I am slightly drunk. I could go on and complain about the direction the WWE will take after this show, but enough people have already done that by now, plus I am in no position to do that myself (too much booze, dont'cha know). That said, even without the alcohol, this was a fairly decent PPV. I liked the cruiser match, and even though the wrong person/people won, I liked the tag table and world title matches. None of the other matches were actively awful, fortunately, but, if I were sober, I probably would've been a lot less tolerant of the Triple H segment. Oh well. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.

Guest Incandenza Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Did HHH turn heel? Who the fuck can tell these days?
Guest PB-13 Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 -Triple H signed with Raw after Shawn Michaels convinced him; Stephanie later said she'd eventually "rip the heart out of Raw". Did HHH turn heel? Judging from the fans' cheers and the big ol' "DX" chants, I don't think so...
Guest M Nyland Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 well whenever Shawn and HHH get in a ring together that is usually bound to happen
Guest jester Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Judging from the fans' cheers and the big ol' "DX" chants, I don't think so... Ok, there's crowd reaction, and there's WWE's intention, which are usually two different things these days. Steph's comments about "ripping the heart out of Raw" sounds like a heel thing to say, but I thought they were portraying her as a face. Bischoff seems to be a heel, so if HHH was a face I would think he would stay away from them. Oh hell, I don't know. I'll watch the eventual 30 minute HHH promo tomorrow on Raw. jester
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 This is the first ever WWE/WWF PPV that I've intentionally missed since I started ordering PPVs. Did I miss a generic PPV, a bad one, or something mind-blowing? Full results?
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 The world title is a toy. Why, why do they have to keep passing it around? Excepting the fact that all the changes have been on PPV and none gassed away on free TV, this is just like the dying days of WCW. I saw the title match, and it was all right, but anti-climactic and kind of dumb. Seriously, who cares about the title anymore? Brock's getting it at Summerslam unless they decide to have Rock hold it and job it in September. Then, when they realize that reign's going to tank, they mercy-kill it and hand it off to ANOTHER guy. Eh, well. It's not like I'm ordering the PPVs anyway. Screw it.

Did I miss a generic PPV, a bad one, or something mind-blowing? Full results? Personally, I didn't think the show itself was awful, but it did have its share of screwy booking decisions.
Guest M Nyland Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 The world title is a toy. "Buy the new Hasbro Undisputed World Title....trade it with your friends...give it up to charity...bury it in the backyard...whatever you wish...it doesn't matter!"
Guest Kinetic Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 That was a pretty good show. Bad booking, yes, but the wrestling pretty much made up for it. I'm glad I ordered it.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I agree- I'm watching the replay and it was a good show
Guest jimmy no nose Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I just watched parts of the show off of my tape because I missed a little bit, and would anyone else agree that Stephanie now has the worst theme music in the company?
Guest Kinetic Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I just watched parts of the show off of my tape because I missed a little bit, and would anyone else agree that Stephanie now has the worst theme music in the company? That title belongs to Eric Bischoff, I'm afraid. They're going to have to change that shit and fast.
Guest Marshall Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I just watched parts of the show off of my tape because I missed a little bit, and would anyone else agree that Stephanie now has the worst theme music in the company? Everyone has the same theme music these days.

Guest Incandenza Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Steph's and Bisch's equally sucked. He should've kept "Back in Black." Still, booking decisions aside, not a bad show, all in all.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Actually, Tazz wins the award of "Best theme music gone down the drain because we wanted some mainstream singer remix." Also, I don't see Brock winning at Summerslam. I see Paul getting him DQed or something to prevent him from getting the belt. There's NO WAY they'll let a guy go undefeated and hold onto the belt. There's just too damn many shades of Goldberg to try and do that.

Sounds like a great setup for Goldberg's suprise debut, and sets up an intriguing feud.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I could post why Jobber of the Week is overly optomistic... but I couldn't do it without posting spoilers... so... *backs away*
Guest RedJed Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Yup, another WWE ppv......another misbooked f'd up mess. I'm going to be in Cali on vacation SummerSlam time, and I could care less I will be missing it at this point. I only threw down 5 bucks for this and STILL I feel ripped off. Mini-rant since I don't even have the desire to completely write a report of the show.... Opener (***) At least Benoit didn't have to do a clean pinfall job or something. Knoble-Kidman (** 3/4) Still nothing near close to the X Division. Match went like 5 minutes and just was there. Seen much better CW matches weekly on Smackdown. Hardy-Regal (* 1/2) Bleh, why was this on ppv?! Cena-Jericho (**) No time whatsoever to develop, finish came out of nowhere and the fans cared less. I appreciate the attempt to elevate new guys, but they can't even do it right now so what's the f'n point. I liked that they used the SD announcers but here's a novel idea.......why doesn't each team announce the matches for their respective brands? Lesnar and RVD should have been on Raw.........hold that, they should have never had this match, and should have just left their feud at the match on Raw after KOTR. This served no purpose......their previous match on Raw was basically the same thing. Complete waste of time in retrospect given the finish. I said a long time ago that they shouldn't have milked this feud any longer since neither of them could get away with doing a major job to one another. So they had to do this no finish and it sucked. They continue to have no clue how to really get Lesnar over. Instead of this, Taker should have jobbed clean to Lesnar (obviously lost the title way before this ppv) and RVD should have been in a totally other direction, moving towards the ME level. You can't move two guys to a ME level in a feud like this, and this is what they are trying. Yet another clear example of the imcompetant booking. BTW, I feel Taker jobbing to Lesnar would have been important just because Taker f'n hardly allows anyone damage his character in any way, much less job out to them properly. ** 1/4 Booker and Show was bad until the last minute or so. Nice to see the Harlem Hangover back in town though, I marked for that. Booker finally goes over.....lets hope this starts a trend with him. This reminded me of a decent Raw match since it was only like 5 minutes long. ** 1/2 Tag title match was weak in context, but I didn't mind the finish. Jericho involved with TC works. God, Hogan looked green here ** ME was match of the night. Angle carried both of them moreless, but Taker and Rock pulled in their weight in spots near the end. I have a real problem with Taker not doing the job though, it's just not right. Angle could have gotten a major rub in this match if it wasn't for taking the pinfall. How can they be so dense to not see how incredible Angle is? Maybe they will later in the year by having him beat Lesnar for his first loss. Angle and Lesnar in my opinion is the only worthwhile feud they can promote on top and would deliver (possibly Benoit-RVD also). That's the only hope for Angle AND Lesnar's respective careers at this point. Angle needs to be the tweener guy in the company, not Taker. Last 5-10 minutes here pretty much made the ppv. *** 1/2 Glad to see HBK and HHH reform or whatever, I expected it. I hope this will lead to a turn by Michaels down the road and the impending match between the two. This is the only thing I see being worked as a long term plan (if thats even what they have planned) Bischoff has already turned the commonplace WWE stale character to me in just 3 shows in. Steph is easier to handle than before with her role as a calm babyface, but I am not interested in their interaction together in the least. Not sure how many times they have to put out boring predictable ppvs until they finally realize a change needs to be made not just in the TV weekly shows (as far as angles and etc) but on ppv as well (especially match context). This seemed like one of those mediocre Raws that is just there....nothng near anything close to a 35 dollar worthwhile event. Not sure what the hell Jim Ross was talking about in his Ross Report about some "major surprises" happening at the ppv. Where were they, everything was borderline predictable. He's turning into Sciavonie fast as far as exaggerating things in announcing. He played up the show like it was the best thing since sliced bread.
Guest goodhelmet Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 RedJed just gave me the most logical and most believable assessment of the show yet. I came in during the HHH-Steph interview and he nailed the last two matches dead-on. This company needs a wake-up call quick and the answer is not hhh or bischoff or steph or brock.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 i think steph might take rvd...and then hes gonna miraculously get less pops
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I could post why Jobber of the Week is overly optomistic... but I couldn't do it without posting spoilers... What? I know the Rock is heading out, but I just don't see Brock getting a clean win. Or a win. The RVD chase is cool and all, but I'd much rather this guy finally get pinned and totally snap and make playthings out of the upper card for a while than come in and take out everybody without any kind of a weakness. Sorry, I know you have to put some reality and skepticism aside to enjoy, but that's a further stretch than I'm willing to go.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Yea, RedJed's assesment was pretty dead on. For most of the matches, the ending sucked. The tables tag match was pretty good, better than I thought it would be, but the ending was anti-climactic. Knoble/Kidman and Jericho/Cena were pretty good, even though I'm pissed that Cena keeps getting wins over Jericho without advancing any storyline. Jericho just keeps getting madder and madder, but doesn't get any payback! At least he interfered in Team Canada's match so they'd win the titles, just like everyone on the 'net thought he would. I didn't think I'd like the main event so much, but it ruled... I thought it was great when everyone was doing everyone else's signature moves. WTF does Rocky have to go over Angle though... Brocky vs. Rocky is gonna suck, because I've never seen The Rock put anyone over clean. That's what I've always hated about The Rock, especially as champ. What was up with the crowd? One of the worst crowds I've ever heard. They were dead all night... hell, even the Rock pops were anemic at best. What was wrong with these people? Rikishi has a new shirt... that means he's getting a push... NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I hope the finish RVD/Brock sets up a thrilling feud between Charles Robinson and Paul Heyman! They've already had Heyman score a pinfall over the Hardyz on PPV, a win over Robinson would give him a firm stepping stone so that he can ditch that heat-sucker Brock and make a successful name for himself in singles competition.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Rikishi's shirt should officially be declared the worst shirt ever
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I could post why Jobber of the Week is overly optomistic... but I couldn't do it without posting spoilers... What? I know the Rock is heading out, but I just don't see Brock getting a clean win. Or a win. Yea, but they have to get the title off The Rock before he leaves. Unless they just don't care about it anymore and he's going to fly away to La-La Land with it, and bring it with him on talk shows and crap like that. Oh no wait, that won't work, because then how will he win the title for the cheap ratings pop when he comes back?
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 yea at least last year he had the wcw title
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Rikishi's shirt should officially be declared the worst shirt ever Yea, it's even worse than "Always Pounding Ass" and "We Bring the Whuppin' / U Bring the Ass!". Would anyone actually WANT to boast a mock Rikishi's backside?
Guest RedJed Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 "This company needs a wake-up call quick and the answer is not hhh or bischoff or steph or brock. " Exactly......they keep thinking that one person coming in (or one group, as in the NWO) will drum up interest. They would in normal circumstances and at the right times, but they're completely lost in that sense. For instance, they brought in Flair, the NWO, Bischoff, all of them one year late to make up for their mistake in the invasion angle. They are STILL paying for that mistake, and the worse part is they never learned from it. I can already see that Bischoff is just going to be another invasion, NWOlike situation, mostly because the writers just don't have a clue how to use him. They didn't follow up after Monday with anything out of this world with him. Granted, maybe tomorrow something crazy might happen but I surely aren't expecting it (even though I should with this move they made picking Bisch up). Unless they have a long term plan of action, it's going to fail. Even worse, if Bisch turns cold fast, there goes any heat for a Vince-Eric feud down the road. There was/is no compelling and building development with any of these situations....the Invasion, Flair being brought in, the NWO, and most recently the brand split. Looking back now, how ridiculous was it to bury the Flair-Vince feud the same night Austin left? Their best idea to make well now on the split instead of trying more to seperate the brands is to focus on the two owners feuding now, WTF. When will they realize the owner/GM/whatever you call them angles have been played to fucking death already. As much as I am and will always be against Austin for walking out, the reality of that is this. They both lost Foley and Austin in 6-7 months time directly because they just opposed the creative of the company. Think about that.....and with Foley, he wasn't even a wrestler anymore, yet he felt so strongly about the lack of direction of the company that he just left. I can almost guarantee that the HHH/HBK reunion wont draw any real memorable moments in the month to come, much less ratings. It's all about DEVELOPMENT and even more specifically, creative development. The WWF simply does not have a clue about it right now.......and until they realize serious changes need to be made, it will stay the same. Picking up Goldberg wont help either, yet they seem to think it would. We will get our initial buzz for a return or whatever, and then within a few weeks max, it dries out because they cannot figure out how to follow up on things. I'm just begging Vince to learn from his mistakes one time here. How many ppvs has it been now that are stale and dry as hell? It has been since the Rumble this year, IMO. I think the major problem as a bottom line is that the writers are so much up Vince's ass that he's not being as critical as he should be with them and vice versa. And clearly Vince needs to be much more critical about Stephanie and her position in the company. I can understand how it could be hard to take a stand against family, but my god, it's getting ridiculous. She's the head writer and clearly the blame needs to be put mainly on her because of that. I probably am going to be upset about her being brought back on TV for quite some time as well just because I think it's a political move more than anything and it made no sense whatsoever creatively. Even Shane returning holds more value since Bisch and Shane have something in common......they both "ran" WCW. Sorry, got lost on a tangent there
