Guest Brian Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Charisma can't get held down? Angle, Benoit, RVD, Jericho, cruiserweights...
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 What makes Jericho more deserving? What if Cena (which I doubt this but still) has more talent in his left pinky toe and we haven't seen it just yet? Angle made quite an impression but it took about 3-4 months before everyone saw it. Cena has been in there with 2 of the best talents the WWF has to offer. Angle was in there against Shawn Staziak and Steve Blackman fer christsake. Let me put it this way: Jericho is not being put in there with Cena, Cena is being put in there with Jericho. When RVD was in the Wwf he was put in house show matches with Jericho so he could become a better worker, the same thing is happening with Cena. I can't see how anyone can be charismatic while walking a dog or fetching hand lotion..this is all beside the point of course. The only thing that the rock did for Jericho to help him get over is by bumping for him. HOWEVER, the rock didn't do anything aside from his normal overselling so you can't make that case for him. Promo-wise the Rock burries every opponent except HHH and Austin.
Guest MrRant Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 Charisma can't get held down? Angle, Benoit, RVD, Jericho, cruiserweights... Not in overness with FANS. the booking can be shit.. but someone will stay popular almost no matter what the bookers do.
Guest the pinjockey Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 If Jericho was as great as you say then he should be able to overcome the Rock with his own charisma... charisma can't be held down. I never said the Rock will get Lesnar over. During their No Mercy "Jericho needs to win the big one feud" he WAS ahead of the Rock in terms of fan support actually. The place when nuts when he locked on the walls and then when he got the pin. The crowd was booing the Rock at different points in the match. So Jericho has proven that he can be just as over with the fans as the Rock in the one decent feud that the writers have made in the last year. Imagine what Jericho could be like if he had decent feuds even half of the time. And after a while the fans will get indifferent no matter how charasmatic someone is because the fans realize that Jericho has been HHH's job boy and is doing nothing right now so why get your hopes up when there appears to be no push in sight.
Guest cabbageboy Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I said last month before KOTR that Jericho was dead in the water. Then he goes out and jobs clean to RVD. That was the final nail in the coffin for Jericho. His job to Cena was simply pissing on the grave. I dunno why Jericho even resigned with the WWE. I guess the money is worth the humiliation. At this point Jericho has utterly no heat or even a rub to give. Seriously, he is at the point Booker was at late last year and early this year (before his teaming with Goldust) where he has been jobbed and humiliated to the point where he has no heat and actively hurts the heat of people he feuds with. That's what bad booking can do.
Guest converge241 Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 I think the fact that the dudleys keep getting the wins is against wrestling booking 101.. high profile fueds should have the faces trying to get revenge and the end result should have been them winning a table match. You cant really re-establish Benoit as a threat if hes constantly losing. Brock should have won the IC title. The DQ ending makes sense only if: 1) used on a raw or better a house show 2) brock actually beats the shit out of someone , not Paul Heyman does something. He could have thrown down/vacated when/if he won the world title and then you have a tournament. they should have made Brock look as strong as possible. He should have won clean against RVD , or whomever they book him against. In general WWE is too worried about protecting everybody or "keeping everyones heat". In the old days you had guys who would win for a while and guys who would lose for a while and the cycle would change and flip flop. The new guys would come in with a push and wouldnt be jobbed out left and right. Usually you got de-pushed after a certain time , and then eventually got a renewed push. Sure there were a few guys always pushed for the most part (Savage , Hogan, Warrior) but almost everyone old WWf went through that cycle..AND IT WORKED!! there is no sense of flow/mobility now. Benoit and Eddy beat up the duleys every chance they get...but the dudleys win almost all the matches. Cena beats Jericho but Jericho attacks him afterwards. Brock has to get DQed. Rock has to win the belt, but he cant pin Taker. Its just stupid..guys should be made to win and lose and dont worry about recouping heat unless its necessary to continue feud (which Jerico -Cena might have been in all fairness) There was some good logic at the fact that the question was finally asked about why the Raw announcers get to call the PPV and not trying to forget about the fact that Steph and HHH were still married storyline-wise, and just trying to make the split mean something in general. little things like that and Angles character getting upset that he was ignored are nice little logic gap fillers that have been missing, so its a start. I dont think it was the PPV per se but those ideas i pointed out in general. Booker T decisivley beating show was another good story..but then that got screwed up by Ross selling an upset instead of a statement making victory that Book is a top level player now..(probably because they needed to "protect Show") I agree that Jericho was over and the jury's out whether Rock can have a serious match/promos/feud with a serious heel without resorting to the usual impressions and stuff. Brock should beat the hell out of him tonight on Raw.. and then Rock should cut a serious as hell promo , no catchphrase no coach humilation, etc. If rock the charcter treats Lesnar as a serious threat that gives him some pause.. the fans will buy it too. Hell, have rock do the impressions and have that cause lesnar to snap and attack him.. that way fans who want to see that spect get satisfied but then after the casual fan could say "damn this guy is for real if even the rock is scared" and for smarks it would at least give the perception as a big showdown.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted July 22, 2002 Report Posted July 22, 2002 "You people want some new talent at somewhat the top but he beats a guy like Jericho and you bitch. God forbid he beat Angle. You wouldn't have a problem if it were Taker, Rock, or HHH. He just isn't who YOU think should be pushed. Make up your fucking minds goddamnit." Have you not been paying attention to what everyone has been saying over the past week? Or do you just hear what you want to hear? Jericho, Benoit, RVD, Angle, etc. are what should be pushing the main eventers out of their spot. They should be main eventers. Instead you got new talent replacing the mid-carders that should be moving up. It should be the other way around. The current main eventers should be pushed out by Jerichol, RVD, Benoit, Angle, Guerrero, etc. and Cena and Co. should be taking over the spot they left. That is the way to build new talent. Not job the talent you have that will be carrying the company in a year or so to these green guys. And hey once the new guys take Jericho and Co's spot guess who's still on top? That's right Rock, HHH, and Taker.
