Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 25, 2002 I really don't see Glavine getting held out, I'm certain he'll might be a 1st ballot depending on whose in with him. Will Ichiro make it if he only winds up playing years? .350 seasons, few batting titles, multiple mvps and add in that he gave Japan credibility outside of the pitching spot...He's in. Here's my question If Sammy winds up with 612 home runs and then it's revealed that he indeed used Roids...Will that eliminate him? Or will the voters look away? An another question...It's clear that Jeter, Nomar and Arod are going to be against each other for the next ten years...do they hurt each other? They are all impressive...so when you say "Look at Jeters stats" someone else can say "Yeah, but look at Nomar's, Identical". There is no question Arod is the better talent overall of the bunch. But, do they hurt each other? Kinda like Duke, Willie and Mays of the 60's...Arod, Jeter and Nomar will be our "Whose better" arguement for years.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted July 25, 2002 Ichiro's best bet outside of his playing is as a pioneer. It's way too early though. Babe Ruth corked his bats. Lots of other players took competitive advantages. Jeter, Nomar and Rodriguez might actually be helped, since people see them as a group. Who it really hurts is Miguel Tejada, who like Richie Ashburn, will struggle to achieve visibility.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 25, 2002 Well, playing Oakland really hurts Tejada which isn't a major market. I know Arlington isn't but Arod's talent is so huge as his wallet is. You're right about the corking, don't forget Cobb spiked the players when he stole base and he was the first induction. I don't thinking being a pioneer is that big, if that was the case, Shoulden't Nomo make it?
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted July 25, 2002 There's a few reasons Tejada's overlooked. The market is one. Also that he came along two years after the others. You're right about the pioneer thing. I'd be curious as to whether time in Japan should count on a players' resume.
