Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 My WWE match of the year thus far is RVD vs. Eddy from Judgment Day. The match rocked...and it is the ONLY match you will EVER see where RVD's spots tell a story. My overall MOTY so far is the 4 way X title match from week 2 on TNA.
Guest Dangerous A Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 MOTY so far for me is the ladder match from Raw RVD vs Eddy. The six man x division is a close second. I just got ROH's debut tape and haven't seen the three way of Low-ki vs Daniels vs American Dragon yet, so my mind might get changed tonight!
Guest Nezbyte Posted July 23, 2002 Report Posted July 23, 2002 What the hell is an "MOTR"? I'm going with the RVD v. Eddy G. Ladder Match on RAW Note: this is the WWE MOTY
Guest Brian Posted July 24, 2002 Report Posted July 24, 2002 Watch the tape Dangerous A, watch it twice. Once to just mark out and let the bias fly, and a second time to actuall watch it. Best match this year, ****1/2. If I were to give a WWE match MOTY, I'd give the J-Day match with Eddie/RVD, since I've seen everything again. Like ***1/2-3/4. Well, I sort of understand your point downhome but than you turn around and see matches like Ramon/Michael SS1995, Michaels/Foley Mind Games, Hart/Austin, and Undertaker/Michaels that really built a match wiothin the gimmick without forgetting to use the gimmick and building another psychology around that taking it to the next level.
Guest Downhome Posted July 24, 2002 Report Posted July 24, 2002 Well, I sort of understand your point downhome but than you turn around and see matches like Ramon/Michael SS1995, Michaels/Foley Mind Games, Hart/Austin, and Undertaker/Michaels that really built a match wiothin the gimmick without forgetting to use the gimmick and building another psychology around that taking it to the next level. Do not get me wrong, I love gimmick matches. I do not however feel they should be in the same running as just normal matches without ladders, cage, etc... This is just for MY MOTY's, I'm not saying everyone should think like me, as I'm not that way. I look at those matches, and they are damn good, great entertainment, and surely are classics, but I also have to ask myself what would it have been without the "gimmick" inserted. Again, I'm not dogging them, but you get my point I'm sure. It's just the way I've always thought. What the hell is an "MOTR"? It's called a typo.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 24, 2002 Report Posted July 24, 2002 I overreacted a bit Downhome- sorry. To me a match could be anything but if it rocks the house it'll be MOTY to me. But I guess we'll agree to disagree
Guest Nezbyte Posted July 24, 2002 Report Posted July 24, 2002 What the hell is an "MOTR"? It's called a typo. Weeeeeeeeeeell excuse US!
Guest Brian Posted July 24, 2002 Report Posted July 24, 2002 See, I've seen Ric Flair and Bret Hart in an iron man match in 1992, and that's the best pure WWE match I've ever seen plus the gimmick is brought out to perfection, the best WWE match ever and for the most part the only ***** WWE match, and I don't see how that match can't be the unanimous MOTY and how a gimmick can really affect it that much. I mean, I can understand a little bit when people are not using the gimmick effectively or using the gimmick as an excuse to bust out spots for the sake of spots, but when you take that gimmick and build a match and psychology and story and bring it all together brilliantly, how can it not be a MOTYC, much less in the case of a lot of matches, MOTY.
Guest HoffmanHBK Posted July 24, 2002 Report Posted July 24, 2002 Rock/Jericho at RR. What? I said Rock vs. Jericho. What? Listen to my watch. Hear that? What? What? What? What? What what what what what what AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE....
Guest midnight_burn Posted July 24, 2002 Report Posted July 24, 2002 The Rock v Chris Jericho from the Royal Rumble would probably be my choice for MOTY so far, just ahead of RVD v Eddie from Raw. I'm finally going to see the Psichosis/Low Ki/Jerry Lynn/AJ Styles match from NWA:TNA week 2 pretty soon though, so my choice may be changing.
Guest converge241 Posted July 24, 2002 Report Posted July 24, 2002 my favs this year were: The six man X division contenders match from TNA Edge- Angle Backlash Hogan - Rock WMX8 Taker -Hardy ladder Eddy - RVD ladder not necessarily in that order..I would rate them at the very end of the year
Guest I Fear Hogans Air Guitair Posted July 24, 2002 Report Posted July 24, 2002 RVD VS Eddy Ladder Match from RAW RVD VS Eddy Judgement Day RVD VS Jericho King Of The Ring My mind maybe changed after next weeks RAW Beniot and RVD for the IC Title Baby.
Guest humongous2002 Posted July 24, 2002 Report Posted July 24, 2002 It's too soon to tell but so far the winner hands down is RVD v. Eddy ladder match on RAW, it's a ****1/2 star classic, RVD falling from the ladder when he was going to do the 5* frog splash kind of lowered the star rating.
Guest godthedog Posted July 24, 2002 Report Posted July 24, 2002 Isn't it still July? Since when had the year ended and we could make such a judgement? by this time last year, and the year before, we at least had a reasonable group of MOTYCs 2000: 10-man tag, raw cactus jack v. trips, rumble cactus jack v. trips, no way out malenko v. scotty too hotty, backlash triangle ladder match, wrestlemania benoit v. jericho, judgment day rock v. trips, judgment day 2001: benoit v. jericho, rumble 4-way, no way out rock v. angle, no way out austin v. trips, no way out austin v. rock, wrestlemania benoit v. angle, wrestlemania jericho/benoit v. trips/austin, raw tlc 3, smackdown benoit v. austin, smackdown benoit v. angle, raw we also had our MOTYCs by this time. i think people keep asking this question for 2002 (this topic seems to come up every month) because there's a noticeable lack of normal MOTYC-caliber matches.
Guest thebigjig Posted July 24, 2002 Report Posted July 24, 2002 I care, as that is my opinion. I feel that for me to say a match was MOTY, it should be based on the two guys in the match alone. Having a bunch of sick bumps, odd leaps off of things, and other such things are very entertaining, but to me it shouldn't make for MOTY. In naming a MOTY, I think when you have matches of straight up wrestling in the same category with matches involving "gimmicks", it makes those "straight up" matches that much harder to match up to those sick bumps and the such. This is just my opinion, and my opinion says that "gimmick matches" should not be included in MOTY namings. I agree... I hate it when people call the TLC matches are matches of the year because they're all spot fests... entertaining spot fests yes, but come on. I'll take Angle/Austin storytelling and hard work over Jeff hardy killing himself anyday
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 24, 2002 Report Posted July 24, 2002 I grade on what match is the most asthetically pleasing. I also watch the matches I think are contenders over and over. The TLC matches and such usually don't rate as high after a few viewing IMO...whereas a I can still find things I like about a great match after repeasted viewings.
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Posted July 24, 2002 Report Posted July 24, 2002 I really prefer Rock-Jericho over anything I've seen this year. The RAW ladder match is a second place finisher.
Guest thebigjig Posted July 24, 2002 Report Posted July 24, 2002 As for MOTY, I say Angle/Austin from January on RAW I think... GREAT match and since it was on RAW isn't really remembered which is a shame
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted July 25, 2002 Report Posted July 25, 2002 1. Rock vs. Jericho RR 2. Austin vs. Angle RAW I'll give an honorable mention to Rock vs. Hogan as an all-around great match but for pure workrate it's not a contender
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 25, 2002 Report Posted July 25, 2002 the Angle Edge match from the ppv (not when Angle lost the hair, but when Angle won)
