As far as liking a match that doesn't "earn" high star ratings, that depends on how one defines the star ratings. For example, I rate WarGames '96 as a ****1/2 match, pretty much just based on emotion and storytelling. It's not TECHNICALLY that good, but that's how much it entertained me, and that's what I think the star ratings essentially are--How much you're entertained by the match.

 

Unless the match is so BAD that it's entertaining in that way, then that's another can of worms.

 

Some matches are pretty horrible, but are must-see for any wrestling fan, such as Mankind vs. Undertaker: Hell in a Cell, and Hogan vs. Rock, but those matches don't hold up upon repeat viewing, thus (for me) lowering their ranking. To use a movie analogy, in the summer of '99, I saw Austin Powers 2 and South Park the movie. Upon first viewing, I felt that they were both groin-grabbingly good, and equally as hilarious. Upon second viewing, however, the Austin Powers movie fell apart HORRIBLY, while South Park retained almost 100% of its appeal. Therefore, while both seemed great upon first viewing, things that are memorable for shock value essentially are worthless past one viewing, since the shock is gone.

Oh yeah there was a match I thought was one of the best this year and very Underated was RVD VS Eddy From Raw not the ladder match but the King of the ring Qualifer match there was solid groung wrestling by both men beside' the botched finish it would be a *** 3/4 match and would probably Equal There Judgement Day match. What do you guy's think of that match It was the one where RVD done a rolling Samon Drop into a second rope Moonsault (Now That's a cool Spot).

Bionic, to be honest, I'm a little surprised that Bret vs. Austin from WrestleMania made it onto your list before the Survivor Series match did. Any particular reason why, or just personal preference?

Yeah, pretty much.

 

I like it better because it had a lot more impact. SS was the build, and WM was the BIG match, and it was so perfectly booked and executed, it was one of the most historic matches ever.
