It's kind of a toss-up between Rush Hour 1 & 2. On the one hand, the first was darker and more "street" like a "Rumble in the Bronx" type movie (which I liked). On the other, Rush Hour 2 was more lighthearted and funny and more like a "Mr. Nice Guy" (which I liked also).

 

I like Back to the Future II more than the first.

 

I didn't like Austin Powers: TSWSM as much probably because of Heather Graham, I just didn't like her character much.

Home Alone 3- That movie was an insult to the Home Alones.

 

Some critic called it- HomeAlone1A.

 

In HA2- Daniel Stern gets hit in the head with a brick twice- that's my favourite scene in the movie.

No, I felt that the makers of Scream considered it to be a satire, which knew better than those stupid ol' 80's horror movies and was superior to them. And then it turned around and made the exact same mistakes that they did. But I'd have to rewrite a 3,000 word research paper to explain exactly why. Although I will admit the 2 killers gimmick was pretty ingenious.

The American Pie movies are really close but I like the first one better simply because it was surprising and shocking at the time and it was the movie that singlehandedly brought back the "teens try to get some" genre

 

AP2 felt like deja-vu, same movie as AP1 but with new problems: Stiffler drinks cum now gets peed on (bigger role in the 2nd though...and was hilarious!), Finch same situation (Stiffler's mom), Jim too (still trying with Nadia), Suvari and Klein do NOTHING, and Kevin wants Tara Reid back...just didn't seem original anymore...still funny though

 

Same problem with Home Alone 1 (classic) and 2 (blah!): 1 was cute and original...2 same crap set in New York this time

 

Didn't waste my time with the third HA movie...what were they thinking???

American Psycho 2 had Jackie from "That '70s Show" as the killer, right? Probably the reason it's so bad because, from what I've heard, it was originally supposed to be another movie, but had its opening changed to make it a sequel to American Psycho. I haven't seen it yet though, so I can't judge.

 

Anyway, even though I didn't like either movie, American Pie 2 was more "over the top" than the original, and given that the whole point of that movie is gross-out humor, that makes it better by default, I suppose.

 

While it's not better, Retro Puppetmaster, the 7th entry in the series, is only slightly less enjoyable than the original Puppetmaster (and with a direct-to-video sequel, that's really the best you can hope for sometimes). Most people also think Killjoy 2 is better than Killjoy, but I disagree, because they had a different actor play Killjoy. Gotta throw in my Full Moon love somewhere!

 

How about Terminator 2: Judgment Day? I can't be the only one who likes that one better.

 

And I too, dislike the Scream movies, although probably for a much less intelligent reason than Jingus. I'm interested in what yours is Jingus, as I admire your well-thought out and reasonable arguments. I don't care how long it takes to explain... maybe e-mail or PM it to me if you don't want to post it here?

 

Although I haven't seen it yet (I keep putting it off), has anyone seen Mimic 2? How about Octopus 2? I only found out about USA's "When Animals Attack Week" after it already happened, unless they plan on re-airing any of those flicks anytime soon.

Yeah, I was about to bring up Terminator 2. Both are great movies, but T2 is just that slight bit better.

 

Attack Of the Clones. I'm talking as a sequel to Phantom Menace here, not to the original three. It was a big step-up, which was good because I thought it'd be shithouse!

 

I can't really think of any more! Psycho 2 was better then the original, but that's kind of a given. I think Alien was better then Aliens though, and Toy Story better then Toy Story 2, just to disagree with what others have said. Um, yeah. That wraps it up.

As a youngin, I always thought that ROTJ was the best of the trilogy. Now, I think ESB is the best of the original three.

 

Rush Hour 2 is certainly better than the first one. I remember being fairly bored sitting in the theater during the first one, but I was cracking up during the sequel. When I watched it on TV last month, I barely laughed for some reason. Dunno what the deal was, but it was hardly funny at all the second time around for me.

 

American Pie 2 is probably the funnier of the two movies, but I like the basic plot of the original. Yeah, it sounds dumb, but I really like the story of the first one, and there's still some classic moments to be seen. The second one is pretty much all for laughs with a hint of a life lesson tossed in there at the end. Not much point to the movie, just good for a laugh. Nothing wrong with that, although I don't know if I would give the go ahead for a third one.

 

The original Scream is great, and the killer(s) really surprised me when I first saw it. Truly some great stuff in there and not even close to being a slasher flick. The second one IMO, is pretty boring. None of the supporting characters are really worth much, and they all are pretty interchangable, which isn't a good thing. I found myself fairly bored with it since it was more a parody of itself than a clever satire. The killer is pretty obvious throughout the movie, and his motives are really quite lame. The third one is just shit, and really it serves no other purpose than to damage the greatness of the first one. Total mess void of any redeeming qualities.

 

The original Back to the Future is solid, but I too like the sequel better. Michael J. Fox reminds me so much of myself. He's just such a smart ass. I don't think I could dislike anything he does (with the exception of the Stuart Little movies). Haven't seen the third one although I here it's fairly terrible. Can't wait for them to be released on DVD.

 

Home Alone and its sequel are both excellent movies. Adults can enjoy the real humor, kids can enjoy the slapstick humor. Quite the win-win situation there. Can't really say which is better, but I think I'll have to lean slightly in favor of the original, with the second not missing by much. Both movies are ageless classics, and it's a shame that they couldn't leave well be. What were they thinking with the third one? I didn't even go see it. The trailers and the fact that I knew my perception of the Home Alone franchise would have been pretty damaged, kept me from seeing it, even when it came to video.

I think that Mallrats was better than Clerks and Chasing Amy was better than anything else they've done...

 

I don't think I would count those movies as sequels. Yes, we get several of the same characters in those, but they are about as loose of sequels as you can get, if you do in fact consider them sequels. I just consider them to be three seperate movies that take place in the same location and have some of the same characters. Although it helps to have seen all of those movies (since they make several referances from each other) I still really wouldn't consider Mallrats and Chasing Amy to be sequels.
