How great was Austin

Recommended Posts

Guest Dark Fusion
I think that secondary list SHOULD disqualify his pick

How can anybody HONESTLY say Trish, HHH, and Benoit are three of the top 7 (WWE?) talent of all time?

i think i forgot to mention that the list was just of my faves...

the ALL-TIME ones are as follows

Austin

Undertaker

Flair

HBK

Mick Foley(Cactus Jack, Dude Love, Mankind)

It was a favourite list, not a best list. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

My mistake. Thats just fine for a favorites list, nobody can say who's a favorite. I'd just find trish on an all time greats list to be hilarious lol

And now for MY personal opinion, the all time greats (no Hogan) work somethin like this....

Flair

Hart

Austin

HBK

Taker

Foley

And GOD I wanted to put HBK a notch above Austin.... but man I just cant, putting Hart over Austin was tough enough.... (no pun).

Okay so thats fucking freaky, seeing as I just referenced the Black Hart in another post....

I dont think Owen deserves the list, as good as he was, he was never Bret. He may have been someday... but... who knows...

Like Thurman Munson, maybe, but he didnt have enough, sad but true...

He was a Catcher for the New York Yankees, whom in the middle of his career, died in a plane crash, and had a hall of fame career cut short at around his peak time as a player.

I guess it's just that I've always looked at someone like Benoit as being the best.  But Austin's had a longer string of better matches?  Or is that just WWF?  I guess, I just want my guy to be  the best.  No harm in that right?  (Sheepish grin)

Nobody said Austin was a better worker than Benoit.

The closest thing I can find to that was bps' saying Austin one of the best strings of top guys with great matches. Benoit has never been a top guy in the big two.

Yeah that's what I meant.

I was comparing Austin's work with other fellow top guys like Hogan and such.

And as a side note, I'm too young to remember Munson, was he really that good. I've often heard that he was kind of overrated (Note: No Bo Sox or Yankees fans can answer this question)

I don't know. Owen had alot of flashes, but no real streak of greatness. And he was such a different wrestler, it's hard to compare.

Considere this: he can fight any type of match, and won't be considered an underdog in any of them. He had to discard one the best submission moves ever (The Stun Gun--no one got out of it ever) when he went to the WWF. He also used to be one of the best flyers as well before knee injuries grounded him.

Another thing we forget: he was also one the greatest tag partner ever. His partnership with Brian Pillman in WCW was a considered his best one. But he also won with Foley, The Rock and HHH in WWF, as well as have memorable feuds with the three.

Hogan is hurt because he couldn't be Blond Godzilla on these shores. Paradoxically, Hogan's best work was in Japan.

He was so out there in the early part of his carerr. An excellent high flyer, really in a class of his own (because only really a few indy guys even compared to him) and he could hit the mat and build a great match. Bret was never like Owen, built like that and athletic as he was.

uhm....i dont mean to sound rude or corny...but could we please keep the wrestlers real names to a minimum please? or at least until i learn them all/or most of them.......is that too much to ask.......if it will be any easier....just email me a list of all the WWE superstars new/old skool and put their WWE names and their real names......that would be greatly appreciated....either that or i can just keep posting something like:

"what was his/her WWE name??" and if your going to talk about someone non WWE.....let me know who the hell they are if i havent heard of them...before i make an ass out of myself...

and thats the bottom line.

Bastion Booger's real name is Mike Shaw. That is the most pointless piece of information I know. Owen's stuff in japan rules all as well (what little i've seen) Owen vs. Wild Pegasus in Japan 93/94ish...find it, watch it, love it.

Wait, what the hell are you talking aboiut? If you don't know who Brian Pillman is , it's because you probably didn't watch wrestling until around 1998. That WAS his name in WCW and the WWF. No one is going to baby you and point out anything you might not know because you haven't watched wrestling for long when replying to your posts. If you see something you might not know about, look it up, the internet is good for things like that.

As far as questioning Austin's greatness, don't. Everyone else has explained him well enough, but the man is #1 on my list all time and has to be considered one of the BEST in this great sport by any wrestling fan.

Austin being one of the all-time greats in wrestling I think is without question. He's gone for now but his legacy will remain intact.

I don't really want to go off-topic (this is a Stone Cold thread, after all), but since almost nobody on this board gives Shawn Michaels the respect I think he greatly deserves for his in-ring performances (nobody's mentioned his great match with Austin at WM XIV, both guys being greatly injured), if our friend Kid Kablam also wants a list of great HBK matches (and damn, it's a LONG list) I'll be more than happy to oblige. Austin is immortal, but not giving Michaels his props for all his terrific matches is really unjustified.

I give HBK all the credit in the world for being one of the greatest performers to ever set foot in the ring.

But it is my opinion that he, Austin, Hogan, Nash, Flair and all need to stay out of it now.

There is a whole generation of great talents that have not gotten a chance to take over because these guys hold on for too long.

And it appears that generation (Benoit, Jericho, RVD, Eddy, Booker, Edge, Storm, Christian...and to a lesser extent Angle...but I still say his day will come when he is the #1 guy without question) is getting passed over for the generation after tham (Brock, Cena, Batista and the rest)
