PROMO: Aftermath

A hospital in Seattle, emergency room area. Half the SWF roster is find themselves a comfortable seat in the waiting room. In the one corner calmly sits Chris Wilson, leaning forward without a shirt on, ice on his back, ribs taped a bandage across the whole of his forehead. He’s actually looks somewhat happy, looking over at his partner in crime.

“Strangler, you’ll have another shot, I’m telling you. X Force 9 will pay for what they did to you. Don’t worry.”

Strangler sighs. “I don’t care about the future, he beat me tonight! Goddamn Erek Taylor.” The Boston native grabs a magazine and rips down through the entire book. “I’m going to tear him apart!”

Wilson smiles and pats Strangler on the knee. “That’s the spirit, my boy. Everyone’s going to fall before us. Look at what happened to the Carnival and Clan’s combined efforts. Failure.”

“Yeah, lot of help I was tonight…”

Wilson looks at Strangler, frowning. “Strangler, you were in a street fight right before Wargames. You would have been on that team under any other circumstances.”

“I don’t know, Wilson, I’d of still liked to help.”

Wilson stands, grimacing in pain as his back straightens. “Look at it this way, my friend: It wasn’t needed.”

Strangler misses Wilson’s props to the M7 team and takes it the wrong way as a dig at his wrestling prowess. Before Wilson can go further or Strangler can question him, a doctor calls the evil genius over.

“Mr. Wilson? Hi, Dr. Freelander. The reports on your guys are actually good. Tyler McClelland didn’t suffer any serious burns, Mr. Thompson is going to feel it for a while, but nothing major. Mr. William’s ankle, after a little bit of healing, is really only going to be a little worse than it was in the first place. And Frost…”

A nurse screams and if on cue, the powerful Nord pushes through a curtain and walks up to Wilson. A broad grin spreads across the smaller man’s face as he extends his hand. Frost slowly nods, reaching out and shaking the hand.

“Thanks, doctor. That will be all.” The good doctor sneers at the two men and turns around, walking away. “We did it, my good man. We did it.”

“And in what fashion. Other than a little mishap with the cage, I believe it was an entirely successful night. Tag team title shot and all.”

“Oh, true excellence.” Wilson looks past Frost towards the entrance and begins to walk away. “One moment.”

He rushes past Frost to the Regenerate King walking in to the hospital. The two men share a huge smile before firmly planting their hands together in the center of the hallway.

“Welcome aboard.”

“Glad to be. That went absolutely beautiful tonight.” Mercury pulls a piece of paper from his pocket and unfolds it. “Storm card. I get to break things off with Ced quite nicely.”

Wilson nods as he scrolls down through, head bobbing. He suddenly stops as his eyes reach the bottom of the paper. “He booked me?! He booked me. I don’t see Edwin booked. Or Thoth booked. Or Magnifico. Or Z.” Wilson crinkles up the paper, veins in his neck bulging. “Oh well. I’m just going to get my championship sooner than expected.”

“Hell yeah. You win this, and then it’s just a triple threat. We’ll run in a little Magnificent Seven beating and bam, new champ-“

“No,” cuts off Wilson harshly. “The stable war is over. It’s down to me and Edwin.”

“Eh?”

Wilson swallows hard. “You haven’t really been around. Edwin’s near the breaking point. He lost Wargames, the match he challenged us too. Silent just got bumped. That’s the ‘Nat-‘ Z let slip in our little discussion. It all makes so much sense now. I’ve got videos of all of Silent’s JL matches since his return, as well as any interviews he may have done, being sent to the hotel. I wonder what’s making our fair champion so crazy?”

Mercury’s still confused. “Wait, so we still have the advantage, we proved we could win with the advantage, but you’re just telling us to break this whole thing off?”

“Oh no, not at all. We’re still going to cheat like the filthy villains we are in every other match and to get every other title, but not with Edwin. It’s him, and me and I’m going to break him on my own. In the end, he’s going to be simply magnificent. Just like us.”

“But wouldn’t it be easier if we just destroyed the Carnival, then he’d be all alone?”

Wilson shakes his head, looking around the room. “Not really, plus I’ve tried that. I’m going to offer Edwin the proposal of eliminating our respective stables from the competition. He knows where it will end because he saw that tonight. He’s got his hands full enough dealing with the Clan partnership, and now Silent. He nearly killed Dawg and Lerrin on Smarkdown, and he wasn’t very far from ripping Danny’s leg off tonight. Edwin MacPhisto is turning, whether he knows it or not.”

“And once he goes, there will be no one left to stop us. We beat the best the federation had to offer tonight, and we’ll do it again. With you active again, it’s going to be a walk in the park to wrest control. X Force 9. The Clan. The Carnival. Creative control. Let them come.”

Wilson throws back his back and lets out a rather sinister laugh, before cutting it off abruptly and wincing painfully as he strains his injuries. He recovers with simply a smug and very evil grin.

“Now let it work: Mischief, thou art afoot. Take thou what course thou wilt.”

Guest Edwin MacPhisto

Good good good.

Flaming rings and novel-length matches aside, the evil mastermind still has a darn good tack on foreshadowing and character. Good stuff.
