If by Duke you mean John Wayne then i'm sure everything they said was fitting. But exactly what did they say about that alcoholic asshole?

They said his family was a bunch of prostitutes because they sold his image to a beer company to use in their ads.

And that would be correct. Anyway, personally, I've always found that Americans take themselves way to seriously (I'm an American). Anytime we have something bad happen to us, we go into this mode of "You can't criticize us because we've just had a national tragedy!" It's been almost a year since 9/11 and the fact is that this is a wrestling angle. I don't really care.

Oh...well hell i agree with that statement about his family.

Well damn i was hoping for something better about that so called "american hero" John Wayne.

Actually the only offensive part of the segment was HBK's Bret Hart comments. Way to go, HBK. You could have pointed out how they were abusing one of America's strengths (freedom of speech, as JR kept pointing out) but I guess it's fun to mention how you helped ruin the career of one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Karma's a bitch, Shawn.

How did Shawn Micheals ruin Brett Hart's career? The Montreal incident was the end of his WWF run, he still had WCW. They're the ones that ruined his career not Shawn Micheals and Vince McMahon. The problem with the WWF is they can't drop the subject.

Don't diss the Duke. He once gave a commencement speech drunk. It's one of the funniest things I've ever heard.

Anyone offended by an upside down American Flag on a wrestling show either:

A) Doesn't understand what the upside down is supposed to indicate (the WWE probably figured -- likely correctly -- that most of its audience was too ignorant of proper Flag Flying Protocol and wouldn't "get it" and hence Lance Storm had to basically Explain The Joke). [[by the way, that's the only problem I really have with the upside down flag; most people in attendance probably didn't get it. It's amazing that for all the stink so many people make about the flag, so few of those people actually know anything about how to fly it; it's supposed to be either illuminated or taken down at night, and if it becomes tattered by, say, being whipped around in the wind as your "flag on the antenna" car zooms by, it is supposed to be taken down and replaced, NOT left up to fly around and be shabby. Idiots just need to find something to be pissed off about and offended about to prove their 'patriotism' and don't really understand anything about what they're really getting worked up about.]]

B. People just need to get a thicker skin. I mean, it's just a wrestling angle, and also, THE FLAG IS JUST A PIECE OF CLOTH. It's the finger that points to the moon (American freedom/values/government, etc), not the moon itself.

Now, here's why I liked the upside down American Flag:

It was something never done before on a wrestling program, or at least not since I became a fan. A canadian flag would've been obvious and pedestrian. And besides, though the group is All-Canadian at this point, they are supposed to represent all non-Americans everywhere (at least that seems to be how they are booked to see themselves). Plus, you know, after Lance Storm explained what the upside down flag means, the fans could come away knowing something they didn't know before.

Unique, Entertaining, "shocking" (in its newness and it's "offensiveness) and it was, like, sorta educational, too. :D Socially Responsible Television from Vince McMahon? I think the temperature in Hell is dropping rapidly...

Well, how do you know that people didn't get it? Did you personally go into the audience and poll everyone to see if they understood? If you want to make an opinion about the flag, fine, but dont generalize people as it borders on discrimination. By that I mean that the people in the Carolinas are too dumb to know what an upside down American Flag is. They do have military bases and federal training faciliites there you know. Drop the whole smarter than they are attitude as it shows lack of respect....

B) Ill accept that argument about the flag. After all, the Bible and Koran are just pieces of paper that illuminate the way.....

As for disrespecting the flag, The Iron Sheik and Ivan Koloff (interesting since Koloff is actually Canadian) have both spit on an American flag in the old WWF days when they fought Slaughter and Sammartino. Theres your history lesson....

As someone who's both an American and a proud member of the Canadian Alliance, I don't think it was disrepectful at all. The entire gimmick is based around their dislike of America(ns) so they need to do something derogatory to America but they also have to make sure that they don't go far. So, they can't burn/urinate on/destroy an American flag. Waiving it upside down is a sign of disrespect that doesn't actually push the envelope too far.

And notice that when Lance Storm says "Think about why the rest of the world hates you." He doesn't speak about September 11th although I think that is where he is getting at.

Yeah, holding the flag upside could be disrespectful, but the bottom line is the UnAmericans need some heat. It is good for their angle.

aaah my eyes

Do you think you could put a black box over Bulldog in that picture. Such a horrible sight it is.

It didn't bother me at all. It was an effective tactic designed to heat on them, and it worked. I also liked Storm's promo that followed the upside-down flag. Had they burned the flag, that would have been quite another matter entirely.

Remember at an All-Star game several years ago, when the Canadian flag was accidentally marched onto the field upside-down? Maybe those crafty Canucks are just getting us back for that. B)

"Well, how do you know that people didn't get it? Did you personally go into the audience and poll everyone to see if they understood? If you want to make an opinion about the flag, fine, but dont generalize people as it borders on discrimination."

How does it border on discrimination? I found Bobby's opinion of Americans' knowledge of flap protocols to be spot-on.

It was not intended to be a HUGE deep political statement by Lance Storm when they turned it upside down...we just twisted it that way...

Here's my question...When do they go to MSG next? And also...Do they turn it UP even more? or keep it low?.

Guest bob_barron

They come to MSG night after SummSlam.

I don't think Vince will have them do anything 9.11 related cause well they did give 1 mil to the Twin Towers Fund and I think he needs to look good cause of his falling stock

Well, You know that Unamericans will get SICK HEAT anyways so I guess it's needless.

Well Since they didn't have Bret Hart's Mic Disrespect of America they needed something, and they seem like a start of a Great Heel angle but they needed something more, maybe wandering around with a Upside down flag and Beating on random people and bashing the US would do it.

I always felt the reasoning for the creation of Unamericans were not a good explanation "The refs were biased". Certaintly does not equal the reasons for Martin Luther King's reasoning for Civil Rights Movement.

Remember when Austin and Booker were feuding, and Vince stole Austin's food and beer? Then, the food caught on fire and firemen came to put it out. Vince said some derogatory things to the firemen and said they were almost as bad as the police. That was the only time Vince got heat from 9-11.
