Guest Spaceman Spiff Report post Posted July 30, 2002 Was anybody laughing during his backstage promo w/ The Coach last night? Insinuating Coach enjoys the company of animals? I flipped the channel when that segment was going on. And last weeks w/ Eddie wasn't that funny either. People say his gold on the mic, but I think he's been stale for a loooong time. Guest Shadow Report post Posted July 30, 2002 I tend to agree with you. Rock has been stale and boring on the mic for a while.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted July 30, 2002 He's just trying to come up with new shit. Poor guy. I somewhat enjoyed last week's promo with Eddie, WAY WAY more than this week's. Coach is a HORRIBLE actor.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted July 30, 2002 He just needs to realize that he does not need to do these ridiculous comedy bits every single week. If he wants to entertain the fans with a comedy bit do it off the air after the show where he can just recycle them sometimes. And the cow bit was one of the stupidest things I have seen in a long time.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted July 30, 2002 But the crowd ate it up so I guess it actually served its purpose. It's a waste of time to me, but his point is to make the fans there enjoy it more and he suceeded. Works for me.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted July 30, 2002 I think he is at the point though where he could go out to the ring and start singing about how he pooped his pants and the crowd would still eat it up. After a while though I think that the fans would eventually turn on him if he doesn't get funny again.
Guest DrEvil Report post Posted July 30, 2002 The crowd is the important part. I get sick of The Rock doing the same jokes week after week, but the crowd always seems to be into it. A live crowd going crazy adds a lot to a perfomance, even if you see it as crap later on.
Guest notJames Report post Posted July 30, 2002 Considering the "This is your Life " Rock 'n' Sock segment was the highest rated segment ever, I'm not surprised at all that Rocky can deliver such an unfunny promo and still get the crowd into it. You'll never go broke if you cater to the LCD. Me, i just hit Picture-in-Picture on the TV and played a little Smackdown 2 (Jamie Noble vs. Matt Hardy, Lt. Heavyweight Title Defense) until the Rock/Flair match started.
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted July 30, 2002 It's been a good long time since beastiality was funny. Same with the Rock. But don't worry, he'll be off to make movies soon.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted July 30, 2002 he needs to go heel in order to be better on the mic (for us smarks that is)
Guest Steviekick Report post Posted July 30, 2002 The Rock's humor skits are done too frequently. That's why they're not funny anymore
Guest thebigjig Report post Posted July 30, 2002 The only entertaining part of the promo was when he finally got to the match at hand... which pisses me off because the entire promo should have been built around his match with Flair. Oh well I did however enjoy a few parts of the promo last week with Eddie... especially the part where he kept interrupting Eddie with "ayaribba arribba arribba" (forgive the misspellings)
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted July 30, 2002 The Rock's humor skits are done too frequently. That's why they're not funny anymore It's not the frequency but the lack of humor. He's only been back a month or so, he can't be that overexposed yet.
Guest Steviekick Report post Posted July 30, 2002 It's not the frequency but the lack of humor. He's only been back a month or so, he can't be that overexposed yet. I wasn't meaning in his current stint, but I mean over all

Guest Tony149 Report post Posted July 30, 2002 The Rock's promos seem forced now. Almost like him or the writers are spending too much time thinking of something for him to say instead of just going out there and doing his own thing. Every time I see The Rock cut a promo now, it just seems like he's trying to show off his range as an actor like some movie producer is watching or something. Guest El Psycho Diablo Report post Posted July 30, 2002 *shrugs* Rocky's promos are still fine, to me. His promos may be 'unfunny'..but at least he hasn't dived into annoying (WHAT?) territory yet.
Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted July 30, 2002 well his promos havent hit the lows of Jackie Gayda-dom yet
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted July 30, 2002 I tend to agree with you. Rock has been stale and boring on the mic for a while. Funny, coming from a Hunter fan-uh
Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted July 30, 2002 I for one think that the Coach=Cow lover segment perfectly set up his match with Ric Flair. Oh wait, no I don't.
Guest Brian Report post Posted July 30, 2002 I really liked Eddie's promo because Eddie's part had more relevance and it actually felt like Eddie was going hysterically crazy in the ring and really emotional.
Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted July 30, 2002 I have been saying this for months and usually people tell me that I'm flat out wrong. Last night's promo was so bad I flipped over to VH1 One Hit Wonders.

Guest Redhawk Report post Posted July 30, 2002 Never overestimate the intelligence of a pro wrestling crowd. Smarks and/or fans of more high-brow humor might think The Rock's skit was dumb, but the live crowd was loving it. So too was my 11-year-old cousin, and probably all of his little friends at school. Remember, a lot of kids and hicks watch wrestling.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted July 30, 2002 The thing that bugs me most about Rock's "comedy" is that it's so rehersed. Coach has to say this...so Rock can thing him back with that...and Coach has to reply with that...so Rock can hit him back with this...it's way too planned out and doesn't come off at all spontanious
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted July 30, 2002 I was disgusted by that worthless peice of shit promo and all I could do was roll my eyes. You had THE ROCK vs RIC FLAIR coming up and he talks about Coach/cows. Not about the match with Brock (maybe 2 seconds) that is in desparate need of build. Not about this HUGE dream match coming up. Not even about how much the belt is important to him. He talks about a cow and Jonothan Coachman. Pathetic. I'd love for someone worth a shit to hold the belt or at least kkeep it on Taker. Rock is useless as a champ because I want to change the channel when he's on.
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted July 30, 2002 I, for one, am interested to see where this Coach/Cow storyline goes too. Will the cows team with the Rock to stop coach? Or do the cows like mics getting stuck up their asses? I'm on the edge of my seat.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted July 30, 2002 The Coach/cow storyline? Wait a minute...Coach...a cow...DUSTY RHODES IS COMING BACK! YES YES YES! And therefore that DOES make Rock's promo appropriate, because Ric Flair has a history with Dusty!
Guest candie45 Report post Posted July 30, 2002 If he absolutely had to try and be funny, he should have ended the cow bit with the 'Coach, we're live.' Then he should have started talking about his match with Flair. The whole cow bit was plain stupid, and I'm not afraid to admit that I'm usually laughing at the Rock's promos.
