Promo: Why Xero?

Recommended Posts

(The camera is focused on a looker room door. A nervous Ben Hardy waits outside the door, with microphone in hand. He’s pouring sweat, and looks like he could piss himself at any moment. Suddenly, the door flies open and an exhausted looking Danny Williams steps out in street clothes. Poor Hardy nearly has a heart attack, but he quickly gathers himself enough to speak.)

Hardy: Um excuse me, Mr. Williams, I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions, If I may?

Williams: What?

Hardy: Sorry to trouble you, but can I ask you a few questions?

Williams: Fine, but make it quick, O.K. I have to sleep sometime you know.

Hardy: Sure, first off I would like to congratulate you for your teams victory on Sunday.....

Williams: I said make it quick, dammit! Quit kissing ass, and just ask your damn questions!

Hardy: Oh sorry.........O.K., so how’s your ankle doing.

Williams: IT’S FINE! Next question.

Hardy: Um...............So why did you request a match with Xero for Storm? Do you have a personal grudge against him, that the fans are not aware of?

Williams: No, no grudge.

Hardy: Than why, may I ask did you request a match against him?

Williams: Why do I have to have a grudge with someone to have a match against them! When will you people realize that this is a sport, and the object is to be number one! Maybe I requested the match because I would like to move up in the rankings, you dumbass!

Hardy: Oh........I see. So why did you choose Xero as your opponent, and not someone else?

Williams: You may not know this, but I haven’t had one singles win over an established SWF superstar since I’ve been here. Sure I beat Z, but he’s a rookie like me and a shitty one at that...................

Hardy: What about Johnny Rotten?

Williams: DON’T ever mention that match again.

Hardy: Sorry.................please continue.

Williams: Anyway, I feel a victory over Xero could be enough to get me out of curtain jerker hell, and also I think he will be a great test for me.

Hardy: What makes you say that?

Williams: When I was in War Games, I realized something. The biggest difference between the SWF and the SJL, is the speed that the wrestlers operate at. Even big guys like Edwin and Raynor are lighting quick. Faster than a little guy like me, even.

Hardy: Well you do have the bad ankle.

Williams: What the hell did I just say a second ago?

Hardy: um.............huh?

Williams: I said the ankle was FINE! NOW DROP IT! Now as I was saying......Xero is one of the fastest wrestlers in the SWF. If I can find a way to beat him, than maybe I can find a winning formula that can take me to the top of the company.

Hardy:.....and what if you don’t?

Williams: You know what..............SHUT THE HELL UP! This interview is over!

(Danny Williams walks away, shaking his head in disgust. A confused Ben Hardy scratches his head, and looks back into the camera)

Hardy: Well that was Danny Williams, and I’am Ben Hardy signing off.

(The camera fades out.)

I love promos that are actual honest to god promos, as opposed to roleplaying. There's a time for roleplaying, but everyone should write more promos. Good job Deathwish.

Can't agree more King. Good way to bring us back to reality Deathwish, great promo.

Excellente, Danny. Gives a storyline to a match that could have otherwise been sorta throwaway, and a real good, simple character direction for you. Explaining that you learned about the speed while in Wargames...just a real nice touch, keeping a connective thread.

Also, bashing on Ben Hardy always gets you bonus points.

Wow, Danny wrote a promo...cool!

I love your no-bullshit/straight-to-the-point style of writing, as it's a nice break from the norm. Also, as Edwin said, this will make what seemed to be a forgettable match some backstory, and make it a lot more interesting.

My only question is if Xero is writing. If so this will be a surprisingly good match-up for Danny. Wait to give it some backstory by the way. I would have never thought of something like this.
