Your fav SNL character

Recommended Posts

Guest HBK16

I don't think we have ever had one of these here. But if we did oh well. But if we didn't, it's about time we did. You can put in Mad TV if you like too.

SNL:

Chris Farly

Mike Myers

Rob Sneider

Skits:

Deep Thoughts

Almost all of them with Farly and Mike Myers

My favorite guest:

Rock (had a lot of funny skits in it)

Mad TV:

Will Saso

That blond chick that recently left. Her name escapes me right now

Skits:

The Mary Kate and Ashley where they one is fat and the other one is skinny and they keep on switching. You know what I am talking about if you saw it.

Dammit! I always do that! It's a habit I guess. I also have to add the Gilligans Island bit on Mad TV. I saw it once and it was like at 3 AM last year. It was really funny.

As a loyal SNL fan it's like against the law for me to watch MadTV

I feel your pain, Bob, I never watch MadTV.

As for my favourite SNL member, its Chris Farley. My favourite skit was Jingeheimer Junction and as for favourite host, its very hard to pick but The Rock did pretty well.

I gotta also give props to Phil Hartman- He may not have starred in every skit but he made skits great.

And I'd be remiss in not mentioning Tina Fey since sheh as hugged me on three seperate occasions.

Brain Fellows= Ummmmmmmm exuse me.

Oh God it was funny the first 5,000 times but now it is just painfully unfunny.

Plus everytime I see SNL live I always end up seeing a BFSP and its just so not funny anymore.

I think Lorne has realised that cause it got cut at the last dress rehearsal

I'll respond while trying to be ojective cause most of you know-

Tina Fey has hugged me on three seperate occasions..

With that out the way-

They completely suck?? Hello??? Okay so Jimmy doesn't set the world on fire but Tina is just a complete 180 from every other WU anchrp we've seen. A lot of people hated Colin Quinn (I wasnt one of them) and FF were a fun change of pace. Like Norm they don't take the news too seriously and often have fun bits such as Jon Stewart becoming an anchor and The Update door.

Tina Fey has also helped changed the way many people viewed SNL. Past allegations of Janeane Garafalo have led many people to coin SNL 'A boys club' but with her as the first female head writer and first female wU anchor since 1981 the show has taken off having one critical and ratings acclaim. Without Tina leading the charge on the Update desk other female cast members such as Amy Poehler and Ana Gasteyer would probably have not be as noticed. Tina Fey has changed the way many people think of SNL.

Now sure FF will never be half as good as Norm Macdonald's reign of glory but they are providing a fresh face out there with great jokes and excellent chemistry. They can be touching when they want to (I didnt like but many people loved the farewell to Guliani) and hilarious.

Seth Meyers has also helped to improve Weekend Update. A no named featured player at the start, his scathing commentary on the New York Yankees and all things Boston have also made WU a fresh thing to look at. His point/counterpoint with Derek Jeter was absolutely hilarious and his impressions of Tobey Maguire and Hugh Grant (cut from dress) have made him a welcome appearance to the Update desk. I personally think he would be a better choice then Jimmy but he is much more of a draw and has the female teen demographic.

While many people may not like the Jimmy/Tina funzone bits, I believe they were necessary because in the wake of 9.11 because the news has become very bleak at times with bad news and terrorist threats the whole half four. The funzone bits are a good way to just let loose and show that the news can still be fun.

The Fallon/Fey update team were the best thing to happen the show and hopefully they will help carry the show into a new era when all the old timers finally leave

First female head writer...YEAH!!!...but the last season was the worst I've seen, and I mean ever.

The weekend update fills too much time with shit like Drunk Girl and the little bit Katan does every week...I just don't laugh at any of the segments.

And the bit where they keep going "Oh snap!" and just bop around for 10 minutes was almost funny with first time...but not the 2nd-50th.

And after Fey delivers a pun she'll always make a little murmur side comment...which is fine...but she does it every single time and it gets annoying.

I don't see how they can write their bits, reflect on them, and think they're funny

Calling last season worst season ever?? have you even seen 80-81, 85-86 or 94-95. (shudders) I counted 15 thumbs up shows, three thumbs down and two thumbs in the middles.

My reviews for each show are at- saturday-night-live.com if anyone is interested in my in depth opinion of SNL

I personally think last season was one of the best seasons in a long time. Sure they relied on recurring characters a bit too much but WU was better in season 2 and it was cool seeing two of the featured players break out. I admit that the season started off badly but I'd say after the Derek Jeter episode (even though signs of improvement started shwoing in November with the John Goodman show) that they finally found their voince in the post 9.11 world and went on a pretty wicked hot streak.

And I do excuse the Drew Barrymore shit show cause well it was the week they found anthrax at 30 Rock and I wouldnt be too motivated either.

I will admit- Drunk Girl sucks. I don't get the appeal either. Even though I think the Drunk Girl skit from The Rock episode was based on some of my friends. (seriously) But while Jeff Richards has potential- Drunk Girl is not the way to go.

They've done Oh Snap! twice. Once in the Jack Black episode and the other in the Cameron Diaz episode. The second time they did jazz it up a bit by having the robot Tina thing which I found to be a neat twist.

I admit that Tina's little murmers get annoying after a while but it's kinda channelling back to Norm reflecting on his jokes so its oaky with me.

I don't see how they can write their bits, reflect on them, and think they're funny

Easy- because when they perform in front of a dress rehearsal most of the time the jokes that get a big laugh stay in.

So maybe they're no Norm Macdonald but I like em.

Early 90s SNL is the best, you have Adam Sandler, Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Norm Macdonald, Will Ferrel, Chris Rock and the list goes on and on and on.

Plus the hosts were hilarious too. Jim Carrey's episode of SNL was one of the funniest I've ever seen.

Will Ferrell is techincally mid 90s but whatever. Chris Rock was really underused and SNL didn't really od anything for his career- it was just when he hit it big SNL was quick to cash in on it.

A lot of people seem to like The Bad Boys of SNL era caused it appealed to their demographic. Aside from the current era which made me a fan I'm very into the mid-early 90s era with Carvey and Phil. Those episodes to me are the best

It went through some tough times in the mid 90s but I think 95-96 firmly showed SNL was back on track.

Kevin Nealon as the Weekend Update-er. No one has ever been as good as Nealon on Weekend Update.

Off on a tangent: Especially Colin Quinn. At least Norm MacDonald, and occasionally Fallen/Fey can make me crack a grin every now and then. Who the hell put Colin Quinn at the desk, and WHY?!

Back.

Other than that, I like most any skit with Darrel Hammond (I think it was him - I might be mixing names up) doing Clinton.

Best Skit Ever: Jingleheimer Junction

I always thought Colin was underrated- I mean he wasn't that bad. But he is a perv though so that aint good.

As a WU fanatic I always felt bad for Nealon since everyone seemed to love Dennis and we all know Norm was God. That said I thought he did a very good job at the desk. I love Mr. Subliminal

I can't believe no one has mentioned not only my favorite cast member, but my favorite comedian: Dana Carvey! He's the best in anything he does. I can't wait to see Master Of Diguise (Turtle!)

I like Fey and Fallon at Weekend Update, they're better than the last couple they've had. Quinn was very dull and long winded, and while I found Macdonald funny, his Updates were always kinda hard to laugh at. The best anchor though was Deniss Miller, he did it perfectly I thought.

Favorite sketches are political ones, I love the impressions and it was the Campaign 2000 skits that I think put SNL back on the board.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, the best is watching the original cast on E!. Chevy Chase, Belushi, Bill Murrey and Gilda Radner are all insane. Always good stuff there.

Good call slapnuts- Dana Carvey pretty much helped SNL get back on its feet in the 80s and it's a shame he isnt commonly mentioned as a great.

Norm appeals to like certain people, I know some people who hate the dude's guts while there are people like me who find him to be hilarious and worship him as a God.

Dennis Miller was funny as well but Norm will be always #1.

I think Colin got a lot of backlash for replacing Norm and never really recovered. I do feel bad for him cause of that
