Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted August 3, 2002 Would you mind backing up your argument? Thanks. What argument? I'm just stating facts here.
Guest The Superstar Report post Posted August 3, 2002 Well you said that her songs sounded like something a teen would write. I'm just curious as to what song you were talking about.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted August 3, 2002 Well you said that her songs sounded like something a teen would write. I'm just curious as to what song you were talking about. I think he's referring to 'Complicated' which was a bad single to let out, IMHO. She should have put out "Anything But Ordinary" instead.
Guest The Superstar Report post Posted August 3, 2002 I know. I hate when people use ONE SONG as an arguement instead of listening to the whole CD first. Heck, I hated Complicated, but I listened to the CD at Borders and bought it.
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted August 3, 2002 "Complicated," off the top of my head, as well as that skater boy song. And my world, and probably any other song you care to mention.
Guest The Superstar Report post Posted August 3, 2002 I could see "My World" because she just sings about her life or whatever, and Skater Boi because...eh. I don't like that one either.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted August 3, 2002 I don't like "Complicated", "My World", or "Skater Boi" but the others are pretty cool.
Guest The Superstar Report post Posted August 3, 2002 Yeah...I can listen to them but I don't particularly like them...I mean, in "my world" she sings about washing and braiding her hair. WTF?

Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted August 3, 2002 I'll say one nice thing about Avril. At least she's not pushing 30 and still singing lines like "I'm just a girl in the world."
Guest mach7 Report post Posted August 3, 2002 ...coming from someone with Test in their sig. At least she writes her own songs. She has a good voice and in my opinion, is hot. And I'm 14, not 12 I was SO waiting for the Test jab.

Guest Moleculo Report post Posted August 4, 2002 Avril Lavigne, while attractive,is severely overplayed here in Canada."Complicated" is catchy, but it's her punk posing that bothers me. "Hip-Hop/Rap IS stale... I only care about it because it has Eminem~!" Please tell me that was sarcasm. Is mainstream rap stale.Of course it is,but the mainstream usually is.Expecting a return to the lyrical content of the late-'80's is absurd.Search out some dead Prez or the Coup, not Eminem(also, don't abuse the tilde).Eminem is a hack, and one of the main reasons rap is so stale.Eminem's act is suburban white teen meets gangster rapper with Oedipal leanings and a dash of Sid Vicious thrown in.He's tired, and he should be ridiculed for being so damn lame and without talent, not championed. Guest Ph34r Tha Leaf Report post Posted August 4, 2002 How can you hate a Canadian? Damn right! Also, she sings? Since when? Good thing I don't listen to the radio. Overplay pisses me off, but she isn't bad on the music side...

Guest jester Report post Posted August 4, 2002 Avril Lavigne, while attractive,is severely overplayed here in Canada."Complicated" is catchy, but it's her punk posing that bothers me. I have to agree with that. I don't mind her singing, I think she's kind of cute, but I'm not rushing out to buy her album. I only know two of her songs ("Complicated" and "Skater Boi"), and they seem to suggest her primary messsage is "Skaters are people too, and preppies shouldn't look down on them, but I looked down on preppies." This is the kind of music she'll be embarassed about when she hits 30. If she keeps the Spears clones off the radio and TV for awhile, I'm all for her. Guest The Superstar Report post Posted August 4, 2002 Believe me, her other songs aren't like that. Except "My World" which sucks.
Guest Moleculo Report post Posted August 4, 2002 "Is it enough to love? Is it enough to breath? Somebody rip my heart out And leave me here to bleed Is it enough to die? Somebody save my life I'd rather be anything but ordinary please" I dunno about you,but to me this just reeks of Spears posing as a punk. Her entire image is about as manufactured as Fred Durst's or Britney Spears's.To hear her call herself "punk" is like hearing Fred Durst boast about his "rhyme skillz":it'd be funny if it wasn't so sad.
