Guest alkeiper Report post Posted August 14, 2002 The weird thing about the long baseball season, is that half the time, teams rarely win by more than a few games. The main reason baseball has a long season though, is that they have enough of a fan base to support it. If they can draw enough fans to each game to make it worth their while, why not? Second, most of the time in baseball IS waiting for something to happen. I don't see that as a problem though. It makes it exciting when something DOES happen. And Strike Force, yes baseball and basketball do have their share of meaningful games, but when you're trying to prove football is BETTER, then you've got to go further than that. Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2002 I jumped on the Pats bandwagon last year and will go to a few games this year, but Football bores me. It's all stop and go, there's *WAY* too many penalties, instant replay, clock stopage, etc.. to keep my interest for 3 hours. And you like baseball more? Complaining about the "stop and go" pace in football is totally ridiculous coming from a baseball fan, considering that baseball itself is "stop and go" to an extent, except it's worse in baseball. Guest Strike Force! Report post Posted August 14, 2002 Believe me, I used to be a huge baseball fan. Loved the sport. In fact, the sport in itself is great. But I can't stand it now. I can't stand everything centering around the Yankees and Mets. I can't stand hearing about The Great Home Run race every season. I'm tired of Barry Bonds (yes, he's the greatest player of our generation, but he's being shoved down our collective throats). Like many issues in our world, I blame the media for this. But I don't want to go off so I will just leave it at that.
Guest Rabbi_wilson13 Report post Posted August 14, 2002 That's the other thing that pisses me off. Back a couple months ago when the BoSox were in first, they were playing the Braves, also in first. Would you like to take a guess who got Fox Saturday baseball AND ESPN sunday night? Mets vs. Yankees. The great senor Sutton even brought this up. "Apparently the network headquarters are in NY and they don't realize which teams are in first." Did you see the game last week?! Cards/Mets? I don't want to see the Mets! Give me the Twinskies or A's or anybody close to a division title and not strugglign to make a run at the wildcard. Heesh. At least in the NFL, like on Monday night last year it was Redskins/Cowboys. What did they do? They made fun of how it was MNF by showing clips from games when the teams were great. They didnt play it out to be more than it was. The opening for Sunday night baseball's like "The Mets lie 12 and a half games out of the wildcard, but another run could see them clinching it..." Riiiiight. Baseball moves at it's own pace, generally without something stupid stopping it dead for minutes at a time, like a TV timeout, or a penalty, or a Coach's Challenge, or 20 minutes of Halftime, or whatever. It irritates me when I'm watching a Football game and they're moving along and then ten yellow flags get thrown all over the field, teh coach challenges the call, which takes about 5-10 minutes fo we the viewer getting to watch the same fucking thing from 40 angles over and over. Oh the excitement. The Supperbowl took over 4 hours and the only really exciting part was the last drive of the game, watching the Rams get their asses kicked wasnt too exciting to me. Baseball is stop and go by the nature of the sport, Football keeps adding more and more stupid rules to slow the game down to stretch the ratings out a little further. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 14, 2002 The Super Bowl was awesoe- it was interesting seeing the Patriots be able to handle the Rams the whole game until the very end when the Rams were finally able to comeback. Plus- I was there live :-) Baseball playoffs games are sooooo boring and they start really late and as someone who has school the next day it's hard to stay up till 12-1 every night to watch a game

The coaches challenges are there for a reason, reason they put those there was to keep whatever team from getting screwed out of a bad call, like an incomplete pass. That has and has not worked in some cases. Watching the Rams get their asses kicked in the Super Bowl was exciting to me, mostly because I hate them and wanted to see them lose so badly. While baseball might be stop and go by the nature of the sport, football is technically the same way. They run a play, stop, draw out the next play, and move right along. And we're not counting the other stuff, like penalties, coaches challenges and such. All sports do have a "stop and go" nature to some degree.
Guest Rabbi_wilson13 Report post Posted August 15, 2002 Bob, you rock my world. Why can't they just start the stupid games at 5 or 6? Oh wait, not as much money. Though Game 7 of the World Series and the Super Bowl were both just so freakign awesome. Especially considering the Yanks lost and Martz came out looking like a moron. Good times, good times... It's not that we all enjoyed watching the Rams as a team lose, but just loved watching Martz eat his F-ing words. Why would you tell a team - that is coached by someone who gets off on picking apart offenses - that you wouldn't ever change your offense to gear towards a certain defense? The fact that the Rams had it's fair share of egomaniacs didn't help endear them to the common fan, either. You can say the Pats were lucky, but the Rams were also one penalty away from having no chance to tie the game (Stupid Willie McGinest). Luck works both ways. All I know is that the team that played the better game that day won. Period.

The kick wasn't "lucky". It was a perfect kick. It wasn't like the kick was going to the left and some magic caused the ball to go straight

Game 7 was the best baseball game not involving the Braves. I couldnt even watch I was getting so nervous. I went absolutely batshit when they tied the game and when Luis Gonzalez got the hit- I went crazy. I was screaming, running up and down, jumping off things, my dad was on vacation and I called him screaming: Fuck the yankees! The dynasty is over!! (He didn't like that too much) The Super Bowl was awesome for three reasons 1)I was there 2)I was there 3)U2 played and I was there The Pats completely smoking the Rams was a sight to see and since I was sitting in Rams country the Rams comeback was awesome. Seeing the guy kick the field goal was cool but then looking at everyone crying and stuff- yea- that was sad.

Guest Y2BigJ Report post Posted August 16, 2002 The fact is the Rams were beaten because the Patriots were the better team. The Patriots dominated the game until the 4th Quarter. Then they put together a great drive to win the game, it wasn't luck they outplayed them. And the main reason the Patriots won is because they were the tougher team. They outhit the Rams. Warner, Holt, Faulk, and Bruce were not as tough as the Pats and it showed. And for the Pats not winning their division, they have 20 of 22 starters back and they have agreat new WR in rookie Deion Branch and depth at the TE position ( something they lacked last year) which gives Brady even more weapons to use. Add that in with the fact that they have the best coach in football not only will they win the division but are my pick to win the Super Bowl yet again. Yeah a lucky kick, a 50 yarder in dome for a guy who kicked a 40+ yarder in a fucking snow storm (which I saw live and at that end of the field) isn't anything. Face it buddy your team is a bunch of prima donnas and make believe Christians who got the shit kicked out of them by a better team. I think one of the Rams got his ribs broken by a Pat in the first 5 minutes of the game. The Rams didn;t show up and the Pats did. End of story. And your, "Don't hate cause we win" sig is about 2 years too late, the Rams didn't win last year and got knocked out in the first round the year before.
