Guest Combat Apparatus Posted August 12, 2002 Report Posted August 12, 2002 Hall got fired for drinking (including prior to WrestleMania). He said he couldn't. He said he was taking a pill that wouldn't allow him to do so. But he did. That's what I assumed. All I figured was that he raised big hell over in Europe and on the "Plane Ride from Hell" and they let him go. I'm surprised they didn't fire him after Mania. Oh well. What I heard happened to Hall was that he was taking a pill that made him vomit whenever he tried to drink alcohol, therfore he couldnt drink it. BUT, his feud with Austin allowed Austin's many usual beer spilling antics, causing Hall to vomit in the ring a few times. So Vince advised Hall to stop taking the pills when he would be working and eventually the lack of the vomit effect of the pill was enough to get him to start drinking again. He wasn't on the flight from Europe from what I've heard, but his drinking and behavior while in Europe was what got him fired.
Guest Ram Posted August 12, 2002 Report Posted August 12, 2002 You could always put some facepaint on Cena, and pull out the original Horseman angle with Sting. I think I could enjoy that for some reason.
Guest SlowChemical6 Posted August 12, 2002 Report Posted August 12, 2002 Other than their out of ring antics, the group had nothing going for them. THAT is what happened. No, that's not what happened. The original nWo -- you know, the one that started the second wrestling boom and helped WCW kick the WWF's ass in the ratings for 80+ straight weeks -- didn't have any "workers". With the exception of Syxx and maybe Randy Savage, who was having good matches? What happened was: a) Politics. Austin's ego kept the group from getting over as monster heels from the get-go. If they had been allowed to run rough-shod over the WWF guys like they did the WCW guys back in 1996, it would have worked. But the fans who were expecting this "lethal poison" to invade the WWF got a lame watered-down version of the nWo instead. I guess you could call Austin's refusal to cooperate karma, considering all of the political games that Hogan and the Kliq have played over the years. B) Injuries. After Hogan left the group, Kevin Nash was the guy that the fans wanted to see in action...not X-Pac or Big Slow. Nash was gonna be the 7" monster that would make the nWo a "force" again, but then he went and tore his biceps and his quad and that squashed any plans that the WWE had for him. c) Absences. Like it or not, Scott Hall was the heart of the nWo. He was the original Outsider. Hogan was also a big loss, but not as big as Hall. Hogan had to leave the group because he was waay too over as a babyface to lead a group of monster heels. Hall actually had heel heat, which made the loss that much tougher to swallow. I also think that it would have been better if they had brought X-Pac back as Syxx when the nWo FIRST debuted -- instead of as a replacement when Hogan defected. I also think that they should have kept the Big Slow out of the group. I don't care if you like X-Pac or hate him, the bottom line is that they handled his nWo run horribly. Fans knew that he was in the original nWo as Syxx, but the WWE never even touched on that. They treated us like idiots. I remember that X-Pac was trying to get over his past history with Hulk by screaming, "Four years!" when he waffled him the chair, but I guess that the WWE likes to ignore those kind of cool references. It's bullshit because with the exception of Hall and Nash, nobody in the original nWo was more over than Syxx. Those Syxx ball shirts sold like crazy. I think that with the exception of Hogan and The Outsiders, Syxx was the only guy in the original nWo to get his own T-shirt. As far as the Big Slow...what's the point of bringing back a guy who has been kicked out of the nWo 1,004 times already? And once again, they could have at least mentioned that he was a member of the original nWo back in WCW... ::sigh::
Guest Ram Posted August 12, 2002 Report Posted August 12, 2002 Personally, I think the turning point was Hogan going face. He could have gotten himself and the nWo some real heat if he had baited going face, and almost doing it, but at the last second becoming a mad heel again. But that's just my opinion. Here's a question: If the nWo angle had worked very well, would the split still have come? And if it didn't come until later this year, how would it be different?
Guest Spaceman Spiff Posted August 12, 2002 Report Posted August 12, 2002 No, that's not what happened. The original nWo -- you know, the one that started the second wrestling boom and helped WCW kick the WWF's ass in the ratings for 80+ straight weeks -- didn't have any "workers". With the exception of Syxx and maybe Randy Savage, who was having good matches? Savage didn't join until much later. Hall, IMO, was a pretty good worker in the beginning of the nWo angle.
Guest DJ Jeff Posted August 12, 2002 Report Posted August 12, 2002 Hogan was the big loss for the nWo. Hall was right up there, but Hogan was the major loss. If Hogan had stayed in the nWo, maybe they would still be around.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted August 12, 2002 Report Posted August 12, 2002 here is a simple explanation. Hogan: Sucks, over. Nash: Sucks, over(?) Hall: rules, but is usually Drunk Hall Drunk Hall: sucks, gets self fired. that gives you. 2 sucks, 2 overs, 1 rules. Than Hall starts drinking again. 3 sucks, 2 overs Than Hogan gets turned face. 2 sucks, 1 overs. Nash has about 2 matches in how ever many months they were around. 2 sucks. Pac is added. 3 sucks Hall is fired. 2 sucks Show is added. 3 sucks. So your stable is now composed of 3 guys that suck. Basically they had no chance. Nash's injuries made it worse. Hall's firing and Hogan's "last" run were inevitable anyway.
