Guest HBK16 Report post Posted August 13, 2002 I always see movies that end like there will be one but they never come out. Is there talks about one coming out. But that one ended witha huge hint that a sequel can happen. I liked the movie expcet for a few flawes it had. Mainly that crack whore that was in it. But a sequel would be awesome. Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted August 13, 2002 I actually hope so. It was a very enjoyable b-movie that had some decent special FX, and is actually one of the more solid storylines in recent movie history. If a sequel is (being) made, which I believe, it should unite Paul Anderson, the director/writer of the first film, with Dave Parker, director/writer of The Dead Hate The Living! and writer of the upcoming House Of The Dead. Anderson knows how to subtlely throw references to the game while keeping a semi-entertaining yet solid story, and Dave Parker is the new Zombie King. Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted August 13, 2002 I think the plan was to do more than 2.
Guest crandamaniac Report post Posted August 13, 2002 According to OPM Magazine, there is a new one coming out. It will star Milla Jovonich as Alice, and feature The Nemesis as the main villian. It should also feature video game characters like Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira. It's expected to come out middle of next year at the earliest

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 13, 2002 Well there's a fool proof way to tell if there will be a sequel of a movie in current Holywood. Did the movie make money? If the answer is yes and it's possible to do a sequel there will be a sequel.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted August 13, 2002 Resident Evil didn't make as much money as they would've liked. I really didn't expect it to get the sequel after seeing the box office. But they're making it anyway. The RE sequel and Alien vs Predator are Paul Anderson's next two movies. Don't know which one is first. I can't wait though. My favorite part of the first movie was the ending. I loved that ending. THAT is the movie I want to see. Naked Milla with a shotgun in a world full of zombies, kicking zombie ass. As soon as the first one ended I wanted to watch the sequel.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted August 13, 2002 Lethargic - EXACTLY, the ending of the movie is what got me pumped up for more. The ending seems to start where Resident Evil 2 video game starts, the city in shambles. If she walks into a gun shop and they recreate that whole sequence, I will mark out in the theater. Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted August 13, 2002 I loved RE as well, and I do wish it had done better in the box office, but these kinds of films only attract a small portion of the North American audience. ***SPOILER*** If they DO make a sequel, I hope they actually follow up on the mentioning of the Nemesis Project near the end of the film. I marked out when they said that line.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted August 13, 2002 Paul Anderson on RE2: ARROW: So let's move on to Resident Evil 2. PAUL: Electric Boogaloo. ARROW: You bet Electric Boogaloo! You just finished writing the screenplay? PAUL: Yes… ARROW: Do you have any casting ideas, there was a Mira Sorvino rumor floating around recently. PAUL: We haven’t approached any cast for it yet, although they’re a couple of people from the first one that we would like to return. ARROW: Will the sequel be a bit like what ALIENS was to ALIEN? More of everything? PAUL: Yes, it’s definitely more of a fully loaded action movie. Where the first one was sort of claustrophobic horror, Nemesis will be a lot more expansive. Nemesis will take place in one night in Raccoon City after its been overruled with the undead. You have a group of survivors fighting for their lives and trying to get out of the city. ARROW: Is Milla returning? I assumed that she would. PAUL: We would like her to return, yes. And it will also feature characters from the Resident Evil Nemesis game. ARROW: Nemesis will be played by Eric Mabius right? PAUL: Yes, that’s the idea...at the end of the first movie he becomes the Nemesis. ARROW: So he mutates. PAUL: Yes, he becomes the main villain of the second feature. ARROW: Are you aiming for a trilogy with the Resident Evil series? PAUL: Yes, I would like that. I’ve got the idea for the 3 movies mapped out already, they were always in the back of my mind. Now that the first movie did the business it did, the trilogy might become a reality. ---------------- Honestly, they could just have Milla Jovovich fighting broomsticks in it I'd go see it, so maybe I'm biased. Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 13, 2002 I just saw Resident Evill for the first time last night, and wasn't terribly impressed. The ultra-crappy CGI gore and creature effects looked awful, actually a step down from how schlocky the scorpion monster looked at the end of Mummy Returns. Pacing was bad, it did a horrible job of parcelling out the characters' deaths; instead, half the cast got killed at one point, followed by a long lull, followed by most of the rest getting killed at another point. And except for the black guy, ALL OF THE MEN LOOKED EXACTLY ALIKE, a bevy of clean-shaven white guys with short dark hair. Realistic for soldiers, yeah, but harder to tell apart than minor characters in a Takeshi Kitano flick. Not to mention that these people are apparently the only morons on earth who don't know that you kill zombies by shooting them in the head. And how original was Hal9000 The Red Queen? The costume design and sets were nice, though, I'll give them that much.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted August 13, 2002 That's because Paul Anderson is the shittiest director working today. Why he gets such high profile gigs as Resident Evil and Alien vs Predator is beyond me. Though I do think RE is his best work, with a different director it could've been more than "not horrible." Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 14, 2002 It boggles my mind that this must've actually been spoken aloud at one point: "Hmmm, we've got to choose a director for Resident Evil. Our first pick was George Romero, who invented the zombie movie as we know it, and directed the two best undead flicks of all time. But we decided to ditch him and go with the guy who made Mortal Kombat and Soldier instead." Ye gods.
Guest crandamaniac Report post Posted August 14, 2002 Why did George Romero drop out of directing RE?
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted August 14, 2002 Because he wanted to make a hardcore core zombie movie and the studio wanted a more kid friendly version.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted August 14, 2002 How does one make a kid-friendly version of one of the goriest and scariest video games of all-time? Nobody under 14 really played the game much (I myself was/am a piece of shit when it comes to that game, because I fucking hate the controls). Anderson also made Event Horizon, which is one of the only movies since I saw Child's Play at the age of 5 to genuinely freak me out.
Guest Harry Hood Report post Posted August 14, 2002 To go on record, Event Horizon was the only movie to actualy scare me. And if Romero directed RE I think it would be in the books as the best Zombie movie as opposed to a good zombie movie. As it is Dawn of the Dead still holds that distinction. *SPoiler* How do they show people getting eaten alive, the laser hall scene, and the release of that gas and stuff and still call it kid-friendly. Taht laser and elevator after the stuff is released really messed me up.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted August 14, 2002 IMO, Return Of The Living Dead and Dead Alive own Dawn Of The Dead, but in terms of great characters, solid storytelling, and impact...yes, Dawn Of The Dead and Night Of The Living Dead rule the roost. Any movie with nudity in it is NOT kid-friendly.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted August 14, 2002 There's a difference between kid-friendly and being a children's movie. The target audience for Resident Evil is 14 year old boys. The movie's target audience is the same way. They made a horror movie but it's not gory and it's not very scary and little bitty half a second shot of a nipple is perfect for 14 year old boys. The fact that anybody actually liked Event Horizon scares me more than any movie ever could. I shudder in terror at that statement.

Actually I owuld say that a tit shot by milla is perfect for everyone... And i really dont know what it is about EH it just spooked me. And for an actual movie Dawn owns Dead Alive so much. Dead Alive was very gooey and entertaining but it just doesn't compare because it's so comedic, in a good way. Havent' seen Return...

Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted August 14, 2002 Romero was dropped from the project because Romero's script was just wrong for this movie. Granted, Romero is the best Zombie film maker ever, but you have to remember how many DIFFERENT styles there are. Resident Evil wasn't supposed to be a political piece with zombies. I am not disrespecting Romero, he is the godfather of Zombie movies, but the point of the movie was to go with a more fast paced style and was supposed to be roughly based on the video game. But the movie they ended up making was miserably different from the games anyway. The Red Queen, the laser tunnel, zombies biting you causing "infection", all kinds of crap like that was completely invented in the movie and not in the games at all. It was one long Aliens wannabe. Guest Lethargic Report post Posted August 14, 2002 The laser tunnel was a homage to Cube. And every movie should pay homage to Cube.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 14, 2002 Paul Anderson claimed in the DVD commentary that he'd never seen Cube before he directed that scene, uh-huh. Speaking of which, has anyone else listened to that? It's the weirdest commentary I've ever heard. There's no planning, no agenda, they just threw the director, a few tech people, plus Milla and Michelle in a room together and told them to talk for two hours. So they get off onto really bizarre tangents like debating the relative merits of Resident Evil and Grand Theft Auto, talking endlessly about how cool the guns were, bringing up the fact that Michelle apparently wears leather undergarments, so forth & so on. Yeah...Milla Jovovich is not only hot, but also seems pretty down-to-earth and cool. Anderson is a nerd...Michelle was always like "dude, that's so SICK!"
