Dead thread, but I thought I'd point out: damn, that was a fine main event. Screw Brock. Let Rock keep the belt, have him fight Benoit on my TV every week in this strange bizarro-verse where Rock uses headlocks and armbars, where Tazz puts over the focus points of every submission hold, where Rock goes to a THREE-POINT STANCE TO TRY TO HOLD ON THE SHARPSHOOTER, OH MAN THAT WAS COOL, where everyone sells like a champ, where I'm sitting on the edge of my fricking seat even though I know how the match ends, and where Rock takes 5 Germans on the back of his neck like a baaaad mofo. Finish was great too--desperation out-of-nowhere Rock Bottom...damn. That match was ridiculousy great.

I only caught the last hour, which was pretty good. Funaki as an interviewer was amusing (it may get old though). The women's match was surprisingly decent (but short), considering who was in it, and there were two awesome matches to end the show.

 

The crowd was good, too. How many times have you seen people popping for ARMBARS?

I know you hate the spear, but I've actually come to like it, frightening as it may seem. I don't buy it as a finisher, but it's a nice alternative to the standard clothesline. Crowd seems to love the thing too. Benoit's got his back elbows, Edge has his spears. Watching him drill Chavo into the ringpost and then subsequently get reversed on by Eddy worked for me.

My biggest complaint about tonight's show:

 

How the hell is Stephanie McMahon the face? She insults everybody who makes a mistake, she rewards the heels, and she tries to take a "contractually obligated" title shot away from one of the most popular guys on the roster. Aren't those heel actions?

 

Plus what was up with the Batista/D-Von thing? Are they trying to turn Batists face like that? All it does is confuse everybody.

 

The last two matches were excellent though.

 

EDIT: Anglesault, if excessive spears ruin your enjoyment of the show that much, maybe you should just tape it and watch it once you find out where they are. Outside of the one on Angle, they all at least made some sort of sense.

I think the crowd was good as well. the six man tag and tag match were pretty good, but too short for my liking. The main event had good action and had about 15 minutes (I think), so it was great.

Anyway, I thought it was an alright show, not unlike Monday's Raw, except a bit worse. Nice Main Event though between Benoit and The Rock. I still think that Benoit should get a pin on someone after 5 German Suplexes.

No it's not. The Shining Wizard is more of an actual knee than that scissors thing Hurricane does. You're trusting Cole and Tazz with the name of the move?

Just watching it now and is there a reason that they did not let Matt (with two t's) Hardy not hit anybody. Usually when someone clears the ring they do something unless they are turning on the people in the ring. He came out threw a punch that was five feet away and that was it WTF?

tazz refers to it as a shining wizard whenever helms does it. and why is helms stuck in this tag thing when he's one of the most over guys on the show?

and OH MY GOD WHAT A GREAT MAIN EVENT. if he were moving a little faster & taking the time to SELL THE ARM after the match, that would be the absolute best i've ever seen the rock wrestle. he did his belly-to-belly suplex off the ropes, and it looked REALLY GOOD! he did a sharpshooter, and it looked REALLY GOOD! and even though i'm pissed that the rock didn't tap & no-sold the crossface, the drama while he was in the hold was amazing, with the rock visibly struggling & even teasing a blackout, & benoit with his face all contorted like he's passing a kidney stone, screaming "tap!!!!!!!!!" oh my god oh my god oh my god, what a great main event. the rock should have some kind of clause in his contract that says he can only wrestle benoit, because benoit really brought out the best in him.
