Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 17, 2002 Report Posted August 17, 2002 The irony of my Thou Shalt Not Pass banner in that post is not lost on me.
Guest AndrewTS Posted August 17, 2002 Report Posted August 17, 2002 BTW, was that rumor about Nash telling HHH to hold down Jericho originated at around the time Jericho was set to debut, or did they pop up later?
Guest Shaved Bear Posted August 17, 2002 Report Posted August 17, 2002 hmm i think it was when he arrived
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 17, 2002 Report Posted August 17, 2002 Basically, it's generally known that Nash was involved with Jericho's treatment via Goldberg AND Triple H, who then seemed to develope his own individual grudge against the guy after his debut. Anyway, I think it's safe to say that almost everyone would be satisfied if he just delivered in the ring. To be honest, he's had some matches (granted, not too many) where he's shown shades of his true self, selling very well and pacing his come-backs perfectly. The Jericho/HHH Hell in a Cell was also shades of former HHH, but more of the "Austin/HHH No Way Out 'Match of the Year" HHH that I really don't care for at all. I hate that "tribute to better matches" shit he uses to attempt convincing people the match didn't suck. If he continues to improve upon his work like he did Vs. Storm a few months back, I could see looking forward to watching him again. That is quite the if, but it could happen. I don't think even HHH is anywhere near being able to save the Bound-To-Be-A-Train-Wreck match with Michaels at Summerslam, but hey, stranger things have happened.
Guest MrRant Posted August 17, 2002 Report Posted August 17, 2002 What is it the people have against the HHH vs. SCSA match? I was there live and it was great. Psychology was great and it had some decent to very good wrestling and brawling in it.

Ugh, I really don't feel like arguing about that match right now, so I'll just say I found it to be an absolutely great cure for insomnia and leave it at that.
Guest MrRant Posted August 17, 2002 Report Posted August 17, 2002 But what is the exact problem with HHH vs. SCSA in the 3 stages of hell? No one has answered it with any good explanation on why it was horrible.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 17, 2002 Report Posted August 17, 2002 But what is the exact problem with HHH vs. SCSA in the 3 stages of hell? No one has answered it with any good explanation on why it was horrible. Well, so much for avoiding this arguement... It was the architype for "sloppy, plodding, contrived WWF Brawl" that everyone had seen before and done better. They used cliches (aka, that "Tribute to better matches" strategy that he tried in the Jericho/HHH HIAC match) and did absolutely nothing to make them work. Basically, I find it very comparible to Jericho/HHH, the main differences being that Austin/HHH was way more overblown, and that no one gave two shits about the Jericho/HHH feud by the time that match happened, and so the crowd heat didn't save it like it did with HHH/Austin. Thus, it was spared from the shit heap (and somehow won it's way into everyone's hearts, too). From the blown, repeated, or otherwise BAD spots, to the on-again, off-again selling of HHH's arm, to the complete no-selling of Austin's knee, to the really contrived looking bumps, it was just bad all over and didn't reflect the street fight or wrestling aspect possitively in either fall, which, I assume, is what they were going for (ever hear about the Jack-of-all trades who does none of them well?). Then you had the horrible inserting of weapons that made no sense ("Hey, that barbed wire 2x4 was right there and I didn't even know it!"), the bad prop-shots that went with it, which lead to the blading on camera, which just resulted in one shitty moment after another. Watch it again for proof, it's over-blown, over-done, and just plain bad. Like I said, don't watch unless you need a cure for insomnia.
Guest Kid Kablam Posted August 17, 2002 Report Posted August 17, 2002 What do you mean by the tribute to better matches
Guest RickyChosyu Posted August 17, 2002 Report Posted August 17, 2002 What do you mean by the tribute to better matches In Austin/HHH, the use of the barbed wire 2x4 is not only illogical (Jr wouldn't notice under his feet? Yeah, ok...) but also makes no sense since Austin had never used the thing before. By bring it back, they were attempting to pay tribute to the two well-known Cactus/HHH matches that are generally thought of as being "good." So, a match that seems quite shitty becomes a classic in the fans eyes. Hell, the entire "I work the arm, now you work the leg" portion was lifted from both Benoit/HHH and Angle/HHH, accept they decided it didn't actually need to have any long-term meaning like in those matches (well, accept for HHH remembering that his arm had been broken earlier so that Austin could put him through a table in a stupid spot; Huzzah!!). Jericho/HHH not only had the barbed-wire 2x4, but with HHH using it that time, which makes even less sense than Austin using it. Plus, the "bump the refferee so that paramedics open the door to treat him" spot is straight out of HIAC I. There are probably others, too. Generally, HHH tried to hide the fact that, without Foley, his brawling kinda-sucked, by using lots of stupid prop shots and ridiculous bumping.
