PROMO: The hell?

Recommended Posts

Guest Longdogger_Pete

Deep inside the cavernous confines of the rather cramped X Force 9 locker room, Longdogger Pete rests semi-comfortably on a couch, then picks up his cell phone as it begins to ring. "Hello?"

"Pete?"

"Renegade? Hey, what's up? How's your vacation?"

"Going great, man. Don't worry though, I'll be back before you know it. But enough about me, I've got to ask you something. What the hell happened on Storm?"

"Storm? What are you talking about?"

"Don't kid with me, Pete. I flipped on the TV so I could catch you fighting Wilson for the ICTV title on Storm, and the announcers were hyping it all night, but when it got to the main event... there was nothing but dead air. Nothing. What's going on? Did the match even take place?"

"Oh... it took place all right, and I've got the aches and pains to prove it. Stubby threw a wild card in there. Turned the match into a handicap with Lerrin Breggan tossed into the mix."

"Ouch! So... why didn't it air?"

"Stubby decided I needed to be taught a lesson... that X Force 9 couldn't get away with meddling in Creative Control's affairs... you know, hacking Storm cards is apparently frowned upon around here. He prevented the match from airing and had it stricken from the record books."

"Well, that doesn't make sense. Why cheat all the fans out of... unless... did you win the match, Pete?"

"I... can't say."

"What?!"

"Stubby threatened to fire me if I told anyone the finish of the match. Look, he's got my hands tied here, and there's nothing I can do. I'm damned lucky I still have the match I want at Apocalypse. I'm going to consider that a good omen."

"Pete, you can't just let them do that to you. You've got to fight back."

"I will. At Apocalypse, I'll send a message to Creative Control by beating Perfect Bo. And after that--"

Pete stops talking as the door to the locker room opens and an SWF intern drops a yellow package at the doorway.

"Hey, 'Gade, I'll talk to you later. I've got to go." Pete quickly hangs up the phone. "Hey, wait!" he shouts at the exiting intern. "What's this?"

"Came from the commissioner's office," the intern explained before heading off down a corridor.

Pete grumbles as he picks up the package and tears it open. Inside is a videotape. Intrigued, Pete inserts the video into a nearby VCR and sits back down on the couch, waiting for tape to start. He isn't surprised when Stubby McWeed's visage appears on the screen.

"Well, hello, LDP. You know, I heard Perfect Bo did quite a number on you after Storm. It's too bad he didn't finish the job... I told him to break your legs, not bend them. Now, don't get cocky just because you got your Apocalypse match. Your week is far from over. I'm giving you one more main event, at Smarkdown. You'll be teaming with Edwin MacPhisto against the team of Chris Wilson and Perfect Bo. Sound like your dream match? Not quite. Jay Dawg and Silent will also be out there as special guest enforcers. To top things off, I am officially BANNING that little bitch Sarah Leavenworth from ringside. Let's see her hack her away out of that. I promise you, Pete, by the time Bo is through with you on Smarkdown, you won't even be able to stand..."

Stubby smiles.

"...which, by the way, is why I'm adding a stipulation to your match against Bo at Apocalypse. I'm going to make it... a Last Man Standing match. But forget about that. Let's see if you can even make it into the arena."

The videotape ends, and Pete stares in silence at the television's snow screen for a long time.

Good to see you covered that... I wish you and Wilson could collaborate on something, to make Storm look like it was a Main Event or something.

Yeah, I had to salvage it somehow. Plus, this promo not only explains things, but it furthers the storyline just a bit as well... nice little slugfest set up for the PPV... w00t!

Very nice cover-up, Pete. Almost like it was supposed to happen...

LMS! Second only to the Ladder match!

Clever turnaround! Touche.

LMS is a nice start. Haven't seen a flat-out one of them in a long time, with the no-DQ and all. Here here.

So...Edwin/Wilson, no-holds-barred.

Pete/Bo, Last Man Standing.

Erek/Strangler, CERTAINLY something brutal.

We are off to a fine and bloody start, ladies and gents!
