HBK's still got it!

So what if his foot got caught on the top rope? He hasn't done a plancha in 4 years.

He took a flat back bump, did all of his signature moves with crispness, and even took a high risk leap over the top rope.

I'm impressed.

This match's potential just went up...WAY up.

Yeah but if you watch it again he was in pain afterwards. He probably killed his back doing that and now his match at SummerSlam is going to be that much worse.

He took ONE bump, and he was obviously clutching his back after delivering the Sweet Chin Music to Brock.

I'm waiting for the actual match to take place before I pass judgement, but it still doesn't look very promising from where I sit.

Maybe that's just the pain from not having taken a bump in 4 years.

Maybe he was selling.

Maybe he really is in pain, but he's gonna gut it out for the fans.

Who knows?

The point is, he earned my respect. Nah, fuck that, he doesn't have to earn my respect. He's the Heartbreak Kid. He doesn't need to earn anybody's respect.

He earned your respect by hurting himself kicking someone and falling over the top rope?

HBK earned my respect as well. But every time I watch him do anything but throw punches, I get scared to death he's going to cripple himself.

No, he earned my respect by putting his ass on the line for his art form. He doesn't have to do this match, you know.

He also earned my respect eight years ago, when he started having ***** matches that Kurt Angle can only dream about touching.

I guess someone's bitter that their Olympic Hero is on the under-under-undercard while HBK is co-main eventing.

Yeah, because four years of ring rust is just totally negated when you do a pescado. I'm sure you'll be able to add one star for every time he does that spot, or takes one of HHH's moves you didn't think he could.

Good for what it will be (two criples trying to fight) and good, are two different things. A good match has more to do with using what you've got effectively than throwing in as many big bumps as possible just because you can. Actually, that's probably the difinitive reason that Shawn was never that good to begin with.

I respect him. I'm just not feeling too good about this SummerSlam match.

SlowChemical did you ever used to Chat on WWE.com/chat?

Yeah, it's like walking on egg shells. I was cringing the entire time he was in there.

No, I never chat on WWE.com. Only thing worse than super-smart marks are mindless sheep.

I agree with Rob, even trying that bump was stupid. Sure, it was gutsy as hell, but still stupid.

there is a line between bravery and stupidity.

Looking at Shawn's current physical condition, I think it's obvious which one he usually chose.

I am just gonna completely ignore this ignorant comment, and go watch the ladder match from WrestleMania X. Or maybe the iron man match from WrestleMania XII. Or maybe IYH: Mind Games. Or maybe IYH: Good Friends, Better Enemies. Nah, the Hell in the Cell from Badd Blood. Or better yet, the ladder match from SummerSlam '95. Decisions, decisions.

You mean them I'm upset that Kurt Angle, a two time former world champion has a very good chance of curtain jerking a show in a match he really can't look good in while a Two cripples, a Heatless Wonder and a movie star top the card? Damn straight.

Here's another thing.... If HBK still has some gas left in the tank, it was stupid to use any of it now.

If he was going to interfere, he should have just swung at HHH with a chair or something.

He did the plancha, totally surprising us. That should have been saved for the PPV. Now we expect something like that or better.

HBK didn't impress me much. He toppled over the top rope, kicked a guy, and took a few basic bumps that caused him pain. It's more than I thought he could do... but the match will still suck hard at SS.

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm?

But I'm with a lot of you guys. If Shawn can do some of his old stuff, regardless of how his back is, and carry HHH to a good match, then it's gravy. And if he DOES carry HHH to a good match, then his back will be GONE from all the carrying he's done...

On the other hand, the people who weren't gonna buy the pay-per-view because they think that HBK doesn't have anything left in his tank may reconsider their decision: key word here is the wrestling BUSINESS.

I wasn't particularly impressed with him. Wow, he busted out moves that pretty much anyone can do at this point. Friggin NASH pulled out a pescado once or twice. He also managed to land on his feet then crumple with it, it was in general pretty ugly.

I just don't wanna see the 2 most over rated guys of the past decade go at it, especially in crippled form. NICE job of making Brock look like a pussy when they were finally getting it right with him too.

Yeah, I mean, if I were forced to decide between Shawn and Bret sitting around on the mat refusing to sell anything for over an hour, Shawn over-selling Nash and Taker's shitty offense like a goofball, and Shawn working a great, great match with Mankind, why I'd.....chose the match with Mankind.

Doesn't seem like you've got much of a decision to make there. You could have at least tried to argue the point. Whatever.

It was surprising and impressive...

But by no means does it warrant "HBK's still got it". This is worse than people coming out last week and saying that HHH's back after the 3 minutes he spent in the ring in the 8 man tag.

There is a difference between taking a bump, giving a superkick, a high spot and working a 15 minute match.

That was funny stuff.

I was impressed HBK did a con hilo tope, but the guy was in serious pain. What would have happened if he killed his back tonight? What's HHH do @ Summerslam? Wrestle himself?

All I know is you can say what you want about HBK/HHH, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Iron Man Match - You've got a point, but it was still an awesome match. In fact, I'd argue that if you can spot all of the stuff going on underneath the surface of kayfabe (the sand-bagging, potatoes, etc.), it makes the match even more interesting.

Mind Games - Damn right. Awesome, awesome match.

Ladder match - One of the top 3 matches in WWE history. Period.

Good Friends, Better Enemies - When did HBK not sell to the max, except for Bret? That's what made his matches so great. This is one of the best stories I've ever seen told in any match. Totally set the standard for the WWE brawling style.

Badd Blood - See match, ladder.

I like puro. But sometimes I like a little chocolate with my vanilla.

I bet it's a ruse...yeah, I'm betting that HHH lays down for Shawn, to show that it was just a ploy all along, and to show that Russo Booking=RATINGS!

To be totally honest, when was the last time we've seen Shawn Michaels wrestle a full match? Four years ago. He had an excruciating back injury. He got surgery done on it, and he has not done anything for the past four years. Four years of practically doing nothing (exclude a few Superkicks here and there, and the TWA crap) is a lot of time for a back to heal. So Michaels was holding his back in pain. Could it be that he was selling the fact that his back was the part of his body that's fragile (NOT broken). Same thing with Austin's neck now. His neck may be fragile, but I hear people say "Austin has a broken neck". We don't really know if Shawn can wrestle or not, so I don't know if it's safe to assume that he can't do absolutely anything.

Oh, btw, there's no way that Taker/HBK HIAC I is one of the three greatest matches ever. Sure, it was a great thing to see HBK bump like a tennis ball and make Taker look like a Demon, but it's not top three.

Doncha think that the announcers would have focused on it if HBK was 'selling it' rather than actually hurt? You know, to help build their match and shit? Infact, it seemed like the whole point of HBK coming out was to show that he can still go... So why would he purposely sell the back?

Because the casual fans even know that his back is done, so he's trying to reinforce the point.
