if you don't than I'm not going to come to your home with a tank, forty grenade throwing monkeys and a hypnotist to force you into believing that Cena has potential

Damn, I'd pay money to see that. You could call that the "Bower Brigade"

The problem with Cena, Orton, Benjamin etc. iss just taht they are so bland. The WWE just isnt trying with these guys. They should have kept The Prototype gimmick with Cena, cause then atleast he is different than the rest of the bunch.

I agree that the prototype was a cool-ass gimmick and that the Protoplex sounds ten times more bad ass than the Cenaplex, but I don't think saddling any of the guys with gimicks that are too unique would have helped much, I mean look at Rico and Bautisa, they have the two most original gimicks and they are further down the ladder than almost anyone. If you look at the guys who have really gotten over recently, their "gimmicks" are more or less just extensions of their personality. Edge, Kurt Angle, Booker T, RVD, hell look at Maven, he is SCARY over. It's a shame the prototype gimmick could not live on though.

I'll wait till Cena TURNS ON EDGE~! before i start to hate him. Apparently he was a great heel, and certainly has the 'most annoying promos ever' part of that down. As for rookies, i fricking LOVE Chris Harvard, he just seems to have the best grasp of psychology and in ring charisma. He'll be the one to watch in a year or so.

Don't take everything Jay says so seriously. He thought Wrestlemania X-8 was the best WWE show ever.

...says the dancing pickle avatared chap with 14 images of Michael Cole in his signature.

And yes, in terms of atmosphere, excitement and overall epic feel, I thought WMX-8 was a nudge better than X-7, sue me.

Is there some sorta community program everyone uses so they can make their gay banners? Its unreal how many people have them here. They are even abusing them to shill Michael Cole. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

How was the event exciting? I almost had to be reminded it was happening since the build up was so weak. The event itself was horrible, the entire undercard was complete crap. What was Goldust Vs. Maven doing on the WrestleMania card? The crowd was dead in every match except Hogan/Rock, which I admit was an exciting match the first time I saw it, but after several viewings the appeal really wore off. Do I even need to get started on the main event with Jericho being destroyed by Hunter Hearst Heatless?

I neither like or hate Cena, he's just there. He needs a gimmick to set him apart from the vanilla clones (see Orton, Moore, Maven) I don't know much about the Prototype gimmick other than that he was a heel, but at the least, couldn't they call him John "Prototype" Cena? Just to set him apart from the dozen of other bland characters with full names.

Heh, Cena has already dug himself a hole in the smark community after getting the best of Jericho and Angle on more than one occasion. It'll take something extra special to impress some of us.

I like Cena. Right now, he seems to be just around. He'll get mad over when the split ends and picks up a new gimmick. Cena should start as a heel, and then go face. Rock wasn't really over until he was a heel, and then got bigger when he became a face. Hopefully something will be done with Cena soon.

Go to the "Graphics & Testing" folder, and there is a request thread. A couple members are making them.

And I can't wait until Anglesault sees you, if you are who I think you are.

"Dancing pickle"? Where's the love for Cactuar (sp?)?

I guess Jay has never played any of the Final Fantasy games. Cactuar's are great heel enemies.

Ha, actually I did play FFVII and to do this day call it the best game I have ever laid my paws on. I started eight a few years but since I never saw the dancing pickle in question, I'm gonna assume it came from the critically acclaimed 3rd installment?

It's been in Final Fantasy's 7-10. There was even a Cactuar summon in FF8.

Didn't the final Rock/Austin matchg lend anything to the atmosphere of WrestleMania X-7? The WWE's return to bigger venues? The fact that the crowd liked a diverse card?

I tend to disagree with a lot of Jay Bower's wrestling opinions, though I find his articles very well-written and thoughtful, as well as EXTREMELY humorous (especially with his adventures in Florida). But I don't see how a. John Cena is really doing much or stands out from the bland crowd of rookies. From the same aspect, if you're looking at an in-ring aspect, I believe Cena has jsut as much if not far less ring ability than say a Rico, or Randy Orton, but I disgaree with him getting any sort of a push. I EXTREMELY disagree on WM X-8 being the best show ever, in my opinion, I have seen far far better shows, and X-7 just totally ANNIHILATES X-8, from top-to-bottom. I agree with Scott Keith's wrestling opinions much more, but Bower's an entertaining read when you have a few hours to kill.

Oh, maybe it's jsut I find it difficult for any man to have dissed Chris Jericho as badly as he did on one of his columns, yet still praise Mike Sanders. *shudders*

The only way WM 17 can really be distinguished from WM 18 would be by the absolutly electric Rock vs. Austin Main Event. Not shitting here, but this match had the same kinda buzz the Lewis/Tyson fight had. I still get goose bumps every time I watch it. They are the two most succesful names in wrestling history.

Either than that, WM 18 still had that "wrestlemania atmosphere" that all of them had, despite the lesser quality matches. So I agree with Jay, though his Mike Sanders pimping is a tad shocking, but who am I to judge, Chavo Guerrero rocks my world.

Well, Cena's character (or lack of) is the problem, not his ring ability, which shows potential.

WM X8 better than X7?:o

OK, IMO...

Austin/Rock (X7) Vs HHH/Jericho (X8)-winner: X7

HHH/Taker (X7) Vs Rock/Hogan (X8)- X8

Benoit/Angle (X7) Vs Taker/Flair (X8)-X7

TLC II (X7) Vs Tag Team Elimination (X8)-X7

Shane/Vince (X7) Vs Hall/Austin (X8)-X7

Ivory/Chyna (X7) Vs Lita/Trish/Jazz (X8)-X8

Eddy/Test (X7) Vs Edge/Booker (X8)-X7

Regal/Y2J (X7) Vs Regal/RVD (X8 )-X8

Hardcore Mess (X7) Vs Hardcore Mess (X8)-X7

RTC/APA&Tazz (X7) Vs DDP/Christian (X8)-X8

Gimmick Battle Royal (X7) Vs Angle/Kane (X8)-X7, at least it was humorous :D

Crowd (X7) Vs Crowd (X8)-X7, easy

so thats:

X7=8 X8=4

Wait, Orton has more ring ability than Cena? I must disagree, although my view is based entirely on what they've shown in the WWE. Orton has been the very definition of vanilla. He's shown me nothing outside of his proficiency in roll-ups.

Cena, at least, has shown me he knows his way around the ring moreso than Orton. Although, Cena has been in there against the likes of Angle, Benoit, Eddy, and Jericho, so it's hard to say how much is Cena compared to his opponents.

No shame in that, BDub. Chavo has been *criminally* mis-used in his tenure w/ the WWE. Chavo could be a stud in the Cruiser division if they were half-way serious about pushing it.

Exactly, and when Cena has been paired with the same people that Orton has, it's snoozefest 2002, just like with Orton.

But Orton got a good match out of the Undertaker, I believe MUCH better than Cena/Angle was.

There is so much wrong here...

Shane/Vince (X7) Vs Hall/Austin (X8)-X7

You're giving a ring full of McMahons and no real wrestlers in sight (except for Trish, who wasn't even wrestling) a higher score than a Steve Austin brawl? Okay, so Austin seemed like he didn't really care like he does for most his matches, but it was far more exciting than Vince vs His Kids part 5, and the build-up was better than Vince slobberkissing Trish on-stage.

Ivory/Chyna (X7) Vs Lita/Trish/Jazz (X8)-X8

Both these fights were filler. I call a draw.

And finally, your most greivous mistake:

Crowd (X7) Vs Crowd (X8)-X7, easy

Everyone knows I make fun of Canada often, but come on... You're saying that a crowd who couldn't even recognize that Austin had turned heel and was cheering anyway was superior than a VERY HOT crowd of nostalgics who turned the tables on the booking and forced role reversal on the two guys in the ring? Come ON.

Have there been any common opponents between Cena & Orton? I don't recall any. Orton has been mostly in w/ some hosses (Henry, Bautista), while Cena has been in w/ "workrate" guys (Eddy, Benoit, Angle), so maybe my view has been skewed accordingly.

Orton did have a good match w/ UT, but that's been practically his only good one.

OK, go and watch X7 then X8 and tell me which crowd was hotter all night. The X8 crowd were really hot for a few matches (Hogan/Rock-Flair/Taker) but were completely dead for some of the others, including the main event.

I liked the Prototype gimmick but I think it's better that they went with just John Cena.

I remember when the A&E channel was on that wrestling kick for a while, they did one show where they talked about the Business. ( I think WcW was still winning the Monday Night Wars then) But, part of the show was about Rookies trying to make it. This was the first time I saw Prototype. He was alot bigger built then and the Prototype "Robot" type gimmick worked.

Now, he toned down and can actually move and work better then he did then. Bringing him onto WWE TV as a Monster "heel" with a name like Prototype just really wouldn't make sence, since he's no bigger then anyone else now.

btw, the only thing I didn't agree with Jay was with him listing Kurt Angle at #10 on that rookies list. Angle's been around for almost 3 years now on Tv. Time to get past calling him a rookie and Prodigy.
