Legitimizing The Cruisers

Likely for the same reason that Stone Cold running in the ring and Stunning everyone in the ring got old. Well, it was still good because it was Austin, but when Edge does the same gimmick as "a cool dude," its just lame

What about The Big Booker Boss T kind of waving the microphone at austin?

Actually, I never saw that one, but judging from what I heard, it might actually take the cake. Wasn't there some angle involving the steel microphone pieces getting stuck in Austin's head? I seem to remember hearing that Michael Cole was freaking out about it. Did that beat-down involve a blade-job?

Yes, there was steel microphone pieces in his head. If I recall, Bossman WALLOPED him with the the mic, then just never touched him again. I don't remember a blade job.

Ah, you see, then it probably does take the cake. The only reason I gave the Austin/nWo any slack is because Austin tapped a good-sized gusher and thus, the seemingly-endless assault of shitty punches followed by standing around didn't seem quite as bad.

I'm going to piss a lot of people off by saying this, but if anyone deserves a permenant main event slot, it's Kurt Angle, not Chris Benoit.

Note how no one is "pissed off"? Looking through MANY boards, I can tell you that with rare exceptions, the concensus was that Angle should have won the title at Vengeance. Not only that, but recall the rumor a month and a half ago that Angle may be given a tweener run as champion, to which NO ONE disagreed with.

I think that most people want BOTH of them in the main event. I know that I do.

I do too. But I would push Angle first and have Benoit chase him. The title doesn't even need to switch hands for me to like it.

There just seems to be a prevalent myth that Benoit is SO preferred over Angle, which just isn't true. Especially in this board.

Personally, if Benoit can legitimize the IC Title like he did 2000, I think his effort is better served there, for now, at least.

Most 'smarks' will tell you Benoit isn't cut for the main event. I mean, he deserves it more than anyone, but if given the ball he would ultimately drop it because he doesn't have the character or mic skills to pull it off. WHICH IS NOT TO SAY he doesn't deserve to be 1 or 2 spots from the main event, nor does it mean he shouldn't be made into a 'star', it just says he shouldn't be the center-piece/representative for the Wwf.

Does anyone find it odd that we must accept certain things? Like the IC title must always be a low-level belt.. 'Back in the day' the IC title match was the most looked forward match on the card. It we well featured, well defined and well promoted. Getting the IC belt wasn't 'getting held back' it was 'getting elevated'.

The cruiserweight division does not have to be a lesser division, it just is a division that offers something different. The World Title should be your 'entertaining' title, your IC title should be your 'wrestling' title and the Cruiserweight title should be your 'Wow' title.

Does anyone think Angle is just Mcmahons way to 'get back' at 'legitimate sport'. I mean amateur wrestling always looks down on professional wrestling, and now Vince gets to have his fun with the most legit of them all. I 'heard' that Vince really enjoys angles goofy gimmick and that's the only thing holding him back right now.

I'm a huge Benoit mark, and of course I want to see him win the belt at least once. But I was thinking today, what would he do with it? I mean, really? The Main event is for guys like Ric Flair, the IC belt is for guys like Benoit. I think Benoit is happiest when he can entertain the fans with his incredible matches, but can, at the end of the day, go home and not have to do a bunch of intrviews.

Benoit's interview skills have long since picked up. They're certainly tenfold above HHH's snooze-fests, and to be quite honest, if Brock Lesnar can have his horrible promo skills protected by a good manager, then Benoit deserves the same. There's no reason he shouldn'g get a good-sized push.

Hell, when put in the main event of Fully Loaded 2000, against Rock with Shane as his manager, Benoit did fine, and that was after a long period of being shat on by Rock in countless tag matches and brawls. Actually, Fully Loaded ended up getting a higher buy-rate than Judgement Day that year, which was main-evented by the Rock Vs. HHH Iron Man match. Quite impressive, and a good reflection of Benoit's potential, if you ask me.

I'll definitely agree that Benoit's mike skills have improved. Actually, I've always liked his mike skills. He has a quite insidious feel to him which I definitely prefer to the Rock's over the top catchphrase fest. I liked the whole "I'll make him squeal" thing. And tonight's thing with Steph was real good. What I meant there was that marks who are used to the over the top acting of the Rock won't respond to more subtle talents. My point was more along the lines that Benoit doesn't have crossover apeal, and that's what WWE is looking for. I would like to see him as WWE champ. I always have wanted to, but his style might conflict with the sports entertainment atmosphere. Oh, and getting back to the whole cruiserweight debate, I think they did nicely tonight with the Kidman/Angle match.

There's a difference between cutting a good 5 minute promo and captivating an audience.. Generally speaking, the 'top guy'/'topdraw' should be able to do that.

Benoit does his talking in the ring, so to speak, and he was the most over guy in the company in wcw before he left.

Benoit did cut the twenty minutes promos with Shane, and he got over fine. None of it was over-the top, but it worked, and his "prove me wrong" catch phrase got over just as well as anything I've seen from HHH lately, Brock, for that matter.

My point is that Benoit doesn't have to be a "top guy" in the way Flair was where he talks on and on with flamboyance and the like, but his promos can get him over just fine, even to the point of being a solid main eventer. Look at HHH's promos, for instance.

Speaking of Benoit tonight, was I the only one awaiting him to just head-BUTT Stephanie like he did in 2000? I would have marked like a motha fucka. That might have been the hight Benoit's heel run, right there.

Benoit as top guy is mainly to make the others look good and that's probably why they'll always keep him near the top.
