Guest starvenger Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 So, are any of you Leaf fans excited about this goaltending tandem? ... ... ... ... Didn't think so. Belfour and Kidd probably couldn't be as bad as they were last year, but still...
Guest redbaron51 Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 ...?! you might want to re-think some plans about a solid team this year. If injury plagued don't expect them to go far and just barely make it in the playoffs.
Guest treble charged Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 Well, you know that Belfour and Kidd is such a better combination than Dafoe and Schwab, don't you? /sarcasm *Bangs head against desk repeatedly*
Guest Karnage Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 Whatever happened to Tom Barasso? I thought he was back up.
Guest redbaron51 Posted August 27, 2002 Report Posted August 27, 2002 dunno... but when the leafs get a better defence, there goaltending goes down the shitter, and if Belfour can't do what he did in 99...um I'll be damn happy
Guest MaxPower27 Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 Kidd played for Florida last year, he's not a bad goalie. C'mon Toronto fans, give him a chance.
Guest danielisthor Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 As a Florida Panthers fan, i would say that Kidd played behind probably the worst excuse for a defense ever. Not that he played that much behind Luongo anyways, but you could have worse behind Belfour.
Guest starvenger Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 Well, you know that Belfour and Kidd is such a better combination than Dafoe and Schwab, don't you? /sarcasm *Bangs head against desk repeatedly* I would've settled for Dafoe and Kidd. And no, Kidd isn't THAT bad - but Toronto's D is marginally better than Florida's, so he'll need to seriously step it up. I suppose that he'll at least get some offensive support, though...
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 Even though he's older and more lunacy prone, Belfour is a much better goalie than Dafoe. Dafoe is consistent at one thing only: letting in game tying/game winning goals in the last minute of a game. As questionable as the Eagle is at this time in his career, he's a better #1 goalie than Dafoe. Hell, I'd put Kidd as my number one over either of them.
Guest gthureson Posted August 28, 2002 Report Posted August 28, 2002 Ed Belfour suffers if he is not the clear cut number-one goalie who gets the majority of the workload. Trevor Kidd suffers if he is not the clear cut number-one goalie who gets the majority of the workload. Therefore, the choices are: Ride Belfour, have Kidd sulk and generally suck in net. Ride Kidd, have Belfour sulk and generally suck in net. Play both even, and have both Belfour and Kidd sulk and generally suck in net. Not the tandem I would have went after, but...thats what you have this year and at least next year, Leafs fans.
Guest Olympic Slam Posted August 29, 2002 Report Posted August 29, 2002 Trevor Kidd had a great season for Carolina a few years back and many believe he head Vezina worthy numbers. He got off to a good start in Florida but injured himself in a charity skills competition and hasn't been a number 1 goalie since. I don't think Toronto is a good fit for him, playing behind Belfour usually means lots of time on the bench, something Kidd has had to put with for the past few years. I really think Kidd might be better off on a team like Atlanta or Buffalo where he can get some playing time while still letting the younger guys have at it. Kidd needs a chance and if Belfour blows up and Kidd takes off, there could be some fireworks in Toronto if you know what i mean.
Guest gthureson Posted August 30, 2002 Report Posted August 30, 2002 Trevor Kidd is much like Sean Burke (ironically, the guy he beat out of a job in Carolina.) When they are the clear-cut, number-one go-to guy, they can really excel. When they are challenged for the job, or as will be the case here, told they are backing up, their performance suffers. I suspect its confidence issues. Being the starting goalie is the same as being told 'You the man!' before every game. Its a pretty big confidence boost to a guy who needs one. Being the backup is like being told, "You're not good enough." Notice how shaky Sean Burke looked for a few years when he was always being challenged for the number one job in a few cities? And then got his career back when he went to Phoenix, and they traded Khaibaibulin and kept him? Well, thats what Kidder would need to be a real number one again. To win the job in camp and be told, "Trevor, you the man this year. Its your job." That ain't gonna happen with Belfour there, and I don't think Kidd is going to do a good job backing him up. However, if he still has the Amish goatee, I give high marks to him.
treble Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Good thing I'm not the Leafs GM. I can't believe I wanted them to sign Dafoe.
MrRant Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Well you have surpassed my expectations then, Have a Molson.
