If the choice is seeing a movie shot in 2.35:1 or 1.85:1 in pan and scan or widescreen, the choice is obvious.

I prefer to say I want my movbies in OAR (Original Aspect Ratio). "Star Wars" was shot in 2.35:1, I don't want to watch it in 1.33:1 or 1.85:1. "National Lampoon's Vacation" was shot in 1.85:1, I don't want to see it in 1.33:1 or 2.35:1. "Casablanca" was shot in 1.33:1. To make it widesceen would be cutting off parts of the image, and that is missing the point totally.

Just give me the movie the way the director and DP wanted it to be seen and I am a happy guy...

Widescreen is definitely better, but when I'm on a tight budget like I am now and can save myself a grand or so by purchasing a 52" full screen rather than a comparable sized wide screen TV, I'm willing to make the sacrifice.

Huh? We're talking about full screen or widescreen movies. Not TV sets.

And that, my friends, is why it pays to actually read the posts in the thread. The one time I skip them due to time constraints, I make myself look like an idiot. Let the lynching commence.

At the beginning it doesnt matter to me, but I dunno why, the fullscreen format began to annoy me.

Now my first priority on DVD is Widescreen or... wait until it comes on widescreen.

I mean, IMO it looks way much better.

Of course like someone said before, I got a big screen tvso, it looks better that way, but in a regular/medium tv it could be better the fullscreen format.

I used to hate widescreen until I was 14. I'd only watch pan & scan, because the black bars really made me feel like I was being gipped. Then I saw this special on the differences between widescreen and fullscreen, and how fullscreen usually cuts off about 1/3-2/3 of the picture, and I never looked back.

Fullscreen annoys me to no end now.

Small, medium or big it doesn't matter what size the tv is i don't like fullscreen.

Even If it's a 9 inch b&w tv from the 80's i'd still want to watch widescreen.
