Guest MrRant Report post Posted August 29, 2002 I personally think Mel Brooks is the best comedic director of all time and the man does it all (Writes, directs, produces, acts) and does it all well. My favorite movie is probably Blazing Saddles followed in order by Space Balls, History of the World, Young Frankenstein and High Anxiety. Even though I had Spaceballs on VHS I went and bought it on DVD just for the Mel Brooks commentary throughout the flick. I would recommend to anyone that they pick it up for that alone because its only like $9.99. By the way... I know I left of The 12 Chairs but I personally didn't think it was up to par as the other 10 movies. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

It's like every now and then, his movies will stop dead in their tracks, turn to the audience, and scream "This is funny! LAUGH, DAMN YOU!" Probably the best example I can think of is the hella lame parody of Psycho's shower scene in High Anxiety. I mean, what was the point? Really? The funniest part was the oddly calm expression on Brooks's face afterwards. [/rant] Having said that, I'd go with Young Frankenstein. Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted September 1, 2002 If you just look at the originality and energy and just slick comedic timing, Space Balls is way behind Young Frankenstein, Silent Movie, Blazing Saddles, High Anxiety and the Producers. Space Balls is a funny movie but I think it gives in too much to Brooks' worse indulgements of just going for the joke and led to his down hill slide that produced Robin Hood Men in Tights and Dracula Dead and Loving It. Blazing Saddles is pretty much tied on my list with Raising Arizona for the best comedy ever made. However, I think the "Spring Time for Hitler" number is one of the funniest bits ever put on film. Dick Shawn as Hitler is just mind blowing. As a sidenote: Brooks created Get Smart along with Buck Henry and the first handful of episodes that they really worked on are beyond hilarious.
