Guest Last Warrior Report post Posted September 1, 2002 I live in England and so do not have any direct access to japanese wrestling but try to get hold of as much as I can. I recently got hold off a taoe from Bob Barnett, entitled "Meltzer's Picks". It was a good tape but there was one match on there that I couldn't get my head round. It was a tag match between Hashimoto/(tall japanese bloke) Vs Mark Kerr / Tom Howard. I beleive that it took place in decmber 2001. It was one of the strangest matches I have ever seen. It seemed like it was a worked shoot match with very little wrestling but it was obviously not a shoot fight. I was just wondering if anybody could give me any details about Zero One. Is this there usual style? Is it very popular? I am just curious in general about this match and any details that anyone could give me would be great. Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted September 1, 2002 I'm not sure who the "tall bloke" you're reffering to was, but if I were to guess, it was probably either Naoya Ogowa or Yoshiaki Fujiwara. Anyway, Zero One is basically a promotion with no clear cut style because they have guys from all sorts of different promotions. It was founded by Hashimoto and has several regulars like Ohtani, Ogawa, Takaiwa, and Hoshikawa. They get ex RINGS and Pancrase workers (worked shoot promotions) but also several former FMW workers, NOAH guys, and a bunch of American Indy wrestlers. While the worked shoot element seems to be the overriding theme right now, it doesn't always have to be. From what I understand, UPW's Predator, one of the top heels right now, has a Bruiser Brody gimick.
Guest ShooterJay Report post Posted September 1, 2002 They're also the Japanese NWA affiliate
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2002 And let me just say that Tom Howard fucking sucks and shouldn't even be in the same ring as Hash.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted September 2, 2002 They're just about the only company to regularly use lots of American indy wrestlers; mostly guys from UPW, but there are others from various places (Steve Corino, CW Anderson, David Young, etc).
Guest El Psycho Diablo Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Zero One is also where Shinjiro Ohtani and Masato Tanaka are, right? If so, must get tapes.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Yep, they're NWA Intercontinental Tag Champions or something like that right now.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Don't forget, they are current hosts of SPANKY~! Takaiwa and Hoshikawa rock the world, and I really dig Hash, too.
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2002 Marufuji is in that promotion, too. He rocks MAJOR bells, IMO. Oh, and Ohtani is still SUPER-DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK~!
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted September 3, 2002 I notice from the TNA streamer that Advertise NWA events for the other NWA branches that Zero-one also was stated. Is Zero One another NWA branch?
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted September 3, 2002 They're also the Japanese NWA affiliate Yep.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted September 3, 2002 I'm pretty sure Hash is the NWA world Champion, last I checked. Didn't he win it from Corino?
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Nope, Ron "The Truth" Killings is NWA world champion. Went something like this: 1. Hashimoto wins it from Corino in controversial fashion 2. Hashimoto wins a couple of definitive rematches 3. Dan Severn wins it from Hashimoto in a screwjob. 4. NWA-TNA strips Severn of the belt for not being able to appear at their PPV. 5. Ken Shamrock wins the belt in a battle royal. 6. Ron "The Truth" Killings beat Ken Shamrock for the title (in vaguely controversial fashion).
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Oh, yeah, I remember now. Why in the hell Severn got it in the first place boggles my mind.
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Zero-One also works with NJ, Hashimoto is a big reason why NJ can still draw fans to Dome shows.
Guest ShooterJay Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Oh, yeah, I remember now. Why in the hell Severn got it in the first place boggles my mind. They can't keep the belt on a Japanese guy for very long, because they're afraid he'll bogart the title in Japan and never defend. Ogawa did that a few years ago. Severn got it because I think like Inoki, the pre-TNA NWA brass had a hard-on for shootfighters.
