XPW Hostile Takeover - August 31st, 2002

By Jonathan Siderman

- Before I begin with the report, I'd like to apologize for the cancellation of the live web cam and live Internet play-by-play. Again, some group of individuals attempted to sabotaged XPW and its first East Coast appearance. Someone cut all of the phone lines in the arena, but it did not stop the show, it did not hinder this report, and it did not hinder the crowd that enjoyed every minute of the show! Next show, we will have DSL lines installed... You'll understand how after reading this report of the show. Details on K Malik Shabaz's departure from XPW will also be available on the site when the XPW Head of Media Relations makes an official statement.

- The show begins with a music video featuring the top XPW superstars. Afterwords, the "Who Made Who" music video airs that shows the development of the fued between the "Living Legend" Terry Funk and XPW World Heavyweight Champion "The Franchise" Shane Douglas.

- As Kris Kloss welcomed the new XPW fans to "Hostile Takeover", XPW World Heavyweight Champion Shane Douglas and his soon-to-be-wife, Lizzy Borden interrupted him! The crowd errupted as The Franchise and his lovely lady and true Queen of Xtreme entered the ring. "Welcome Back" chant started as Shane Douglas wanted to get the party started in Philly! Douglas then introduced his 102lbs. of gold, Lizzy Borden. Then, Shane Douglas poses the question, Who Made ECW? Was it that old man Terry Funk or The Franchise? Shane Douglas said he wants to be the man who sets a legecy on the east coast known as XPW. As he ends off his statement, Terry Funk came to the ring and grabbed the microphone. Funk questioned his claims of making ECW; Douglas took the WCW, ECW, and NWA and put them out of business by working for them! Here, tonight, Terry Funk will prove he made ECW and will prove that he will make XPW. They exchange profanities as a huge "Terry" chant broke out. Shane Douglas said he respects Funk as a man, but tonight he's looking for a wrestling match. Douglas walks out of the ring, but as Funk turns his back The Franchise hits The Living Legend from behind! The fight spills to the outside where they are broken up. Shane Douglas attacks Funk as he's being pulled back by secruity. Another dirty taction done by the XPW World Heavyweight Champ.

- Ron Hed comes to the ring and riles up the crowd! Hed announces the ref for this match, John Finagine, the infamous head ECW ref.

- Match One: Psicosis vs. 'Insane Luchadore' Super Crazy

Obviously there is annimosity between the two men as they exchanged stares early on. The two exchanged pinning combinations and high flying that left both men at even. Super Crazy used the help of the crowd to gain the advantage against Psichosis. But, after a top rope face buster and a top rope leg drop, Psichosis got the win over the "Insane Luchadore". After the match, Super Crazy left to a huge ovation.

- Match Two: The Sandman vs. Pogo the Clown

As Sandman was walking out, Pogo attacked him from behind and basically overpowered him during the rest of the match. The Philly native was taken to the proverbial "school" by Pogot the Clown. After a huge top rope splash by the 300lbs.+ man, Pogo left The Sandman unconscious in the ring and forced referee Patrick Hernandez to rule it a no contest as it appears that Sandman had been injured. His wife ran to the ring as he layed in the middle in violent pain. His wife went to the back and brought a beer with her. She poured it in his mouth, and he awakened from his unconscious state!

- Match Three (XPW World Tag Team Championships): The New Panthers (Smokey Charmichael and Malcom XL; formerly Brian XL) vs. Tag Team Champs Mexico's Most Wanted (Damien 666 & Halloween)

Before the match Smokey Charmichael got on the mic and talked trash about their former leader, K Malik Shabaz. The "Uncle Tom cracker" is gone, and now the New Panthers are stronger than ever. The fans chanted lucha libre all throughout the match, seeing how they get little of that action out in the East. Malcom XL started the match off with a reverse a sunset flip into an arm drag, and then a running moonsault over the top rope to the outside onto Damein 666. Smokey followed it up with a summersault splash to the outside onto Halloween. As MMW headed towards the enterance way, The New Panthers gave chase. Eventually New Panthers almost sealed the victory with both men hitting springboard summersaults to the outside! But, the Champions were too much for them as Damien 666 did a airplane spin as Halloween drop kicked Smokey. MMW got the three count as they retained their XPW World Tag Team Titles! Halloween and Damien 666 started a lucha libre chant after the match was complete.

- Match Four (KOTDM Championship): King of the Deathmatch Supreme vs. Hardcore Homo Angel

Supreme spent most of the beginning of the match overpowering him. Angel used his high flying skills as he springboarded onto Supreme into a huricanrana to the outside onto a bed of barbwire and light tubes! Angel attempted another splash from the ring to the outside, but missed and landed in a bed of light tubes! Supreme kept the punishment going when he suplexed Angel onto a bed of lighttubes, and grabbed a rubber chicken and hit Angel. They eventually went into the crowd and fought amongst the fans. Both men scaled a ladder to get onto a balcony where Supreme hit Angel with a stiff chair shot! The King of the Deathmatch Supreme powerbombed Angel off the balcony and through 2 tables with barbwire and lighttubes! Supreme got the three count as the crowd broke into an XPW chant!

- Ron Hed came to the ring with a juicer and a hat as he introduces Juventud Guerrera and his Juice Bar! The fans yelled all kinds of profanities at The Juice, but The Juice was getting Juicy and there was no stopping him. He began to talk about all the jabronies in the back, including Chris Chetti.

- Match Five: Juventud Guerrera vs. Chris Chetti

Juventud Guerrera showed his skills in the beginning of the match by out-performing Chetti. They went to the outside of the ring where Juvi let The Juice loose and spilled it on Chetti! A huge powerbomb by Juvi in the middle of the ring on Chris Chetti set up the demise of Chetti. Juventud Guerrera hit the Juvi Driver on Chetti for the 3 count. Julio Dinero then came into the ring and drove Juvi into the mat. The Juice came back with chops, but Dinero nailed Juvi with a splash. Juventud Guerrera left the ring as Dinero and Chetti urge him on.

- Match Six (Three Way Elimination Match): Altar Boy Luke vs. Vic Grimes vs. Guido

The two seasoned veterans controlled the match early on, but Luke's high flying moves helped him gain some sort of measure. Luke wound up taking out Grimes on the outside, while Guido had an unseccessful attempt at his open high flying move. Luke was eliminated first after Grimes and Guido double-teamed the Altar Boy and forced him to quit. Vic Grimes from that point on attempted to overpower his opponent, Little Guido. Guido got some offense with an armbar, but Grimes hit the Victimizer for the win.

- Match Seven (XPW TV Title Ladder Match): XPW TV Champ "Rock Superstar" Kaos (w/ G.Q. Money & Veronica Caine) vs. "Confederate Currency" Chris Hamrick

Before the match even started, G.Q. Money die the announcing for The Enterprise, and introduced the East Coast fans to the greatest XPW TV Champion ever. G.Q. got in the ring early on in the match, but Hamrick just kicked him in the face. Kaos and Hamrick ran the ropes and reversed every move they put against each other! Kaos finally hit a sidewalk slam on Hamrick and gained the advantage. Chris Hamrick regain measure when he put Kaos in a sharpshooter using G.Q.'s legs and a Dragon Sleeper on G.Q. at the same time. Chris Hamrick went face first into the second turnbuckle then he gets a vicious suplex. Ladder got stuck on the post, so Hamrick whipped it around and hit Kaos in the face. Kaos was in the tree of woe, and Hamrick nailed a leg drop on Kaos. Hamrick set up a chair on Kaos' face and rammed it with a ladder. Chris Hamrick then went to the top rope and kicked the ladder right into Kaos' face who's in the tree of woe. Caine got on her knees for Hamrick to try to distract him, but bites his penis. G.Q. and Kaos hit a leg drop Doomsday Device. Kaos climbed the ladder, but missed a huge moonsault as Hamrick moved aside. Hamrick was busted wide open as well as Kaos. After beating on Kaos and avoiding the other Enterprise members, Hamrick decided to attempt a leg drop from the top of the ladder rather than grab the XPW TV Title. He missed the leg drop from 12 feet. A three ladder setup is made, where two ladders are up and one is going across holding the other two up. Chris Hamrick powerbombed Kaos through one of the ladders, snapping it in half. Hamrick went to the top of the ladder but was sent down to the ringside table. Kaos and G.Q. Money grab the XPW TV Title and retain!

Danny Doring came out of no where and hit an inverted neck breaker. He took care of G.Q. Money, and then went after Veronica Caine. She got on her knees, but he hit her with a piledriver. Doring says 'Welcome to Philadelphia'. Danny Doring made his name in this building, the Viking Hall. Doring said you have to go after the big dog, that's why he went after Kaos. The secruity tied up the XPW TV Champion Kaos and took him to the back. Welcome to Danny Doring's Hostile Takeover!

- Match Eight (XPW World Heavyweight Title Match): "Living Legend" Terry Funk vs. XPW World Heavyweight Champion "The Franchise" Shane Douglas

Shane Douglas comes out and says he has an announcment that will shock the wrestling world. In 43 minutes, Shane Douglas will become sole owner of XPW, and Rob Black will be heard of no more! This is the biggest crowd since Douglas raised the house back in 1993. If Shane Douglas was CZW, Tod Gordon, anyone in Philadelphia, he'd also be afraid of XPW. After midnight this arena becomes the XPW Arena, "The Franchise" becomes official owner! Terry Funk comes out and grabbed a bunch of chairs and encouraged the fans to throw them at Shane Douglas! Douglas went running scared as Funk threw chairs at everyone ringside. Funk at one point pulled down Douglas' shorts and threw him into the crowd! His shorts were back up, but Funk was still taking care of business. Terry Funk and Douglas went everywhere, and were even dumped on a pile of chairs in the crowd. Terry Funks grabbed a ringside video camera and nailed Shane Douglas with it. They make their way outside, and when they come back in Douglas is bloodied and Terry Funk's arm is bleeding profussly. A ref throws in the towel because the head of the state commission said Funk could not continue. Terry Funk was very injured, but still nailed Lizzy with a piledriver! He stripped her of her top and bottom! Funk's arm was completely cut open, with a gash so deep you could see the layer of muscle. The match was over, with the crowd is giving the man a standing ovation. A huge XPW chant broke out as the show ended in disarray.

XPW returns October 5th to the new XPW Arena in Philadelphia, Penn.!

i dunno what else to say. here is a review of the show from another board:

"XPW Results

XPW "Hostile Takeover" results from the Viking Hall/ECW Arena in

Philadelphia, PA on Saturday night August 31, 2002 ...............

Let me just preface my report with the following.

I am a former Club ECW ticket holder for 6 years, and a totally unbiased fan

of pro wrestling who attends 3-5 shows every month for every fed. When I

heard XPW was coming to town I figured I would check them out. I wasn't

sure what to expect and really wasn't expecting a stand out show. When all

the so-called online "journalists" started bashing XPW and urging people not

to attend ... it didn't faze me. I am my own person and make my own

decisions and was not about to let some holier than though writer(s) make a

decision for me about people and a fed they have never met or seen. With

that being said ..... here is my report with overall comments at the end

.......

The show started with a nice video on what led up to the Shane Douglas/Terry

Funk main event. The set up was very professional with a video screen above

the entrance way.

Shane Douglas (accompanied by Lizzy Borden) came to the ring and cut a

promo. Shane said there is talk about who really did make ECW ... was it

Shane or Terry. He said he made ECW and tonight he was going to make XPW

history and put XPW on the map as a player. Terry Funk interrupted Shane's

promo and told him they didn't have to wait any longer. Terry suggested

they have the main event first and get it out of the way so everyone could

go home! Shane told him now wasn't the time but all the talk will stop

later. Shane faked leaving the ring and attacked Funk when he turned his

back, working on the leg. Shane had to be escorted to the back while

security attended to Funk.

Match #1- Psicosis defeated Super Crazy with a leg drop from the top rope.

The crowd was very into the opener and loved Crazy. There were a few ECW

chants for Crazy. The crowd cheered enthusiastically for the open of the

show but were still not sold on XPW, hence the ECW chants. Good way to

start off the show with two recognizable stars with a past connection to

ECW. Worked very well as the crowd ate it up.

Match #2- The Sandman and Pogo the Clown went to a No-Contest. Pogo jumped

Sandman in the aisle during his entrance. Pogo went on to brutalize Sandman

in and around the ring until finally walking to the back. Sandman's wife

Lori Fullington ran to the ring to help her husband. After consoling him

for awhile he still could not reach his feet. She ran to the back and came

back with a beer. She poured the beer down Sandman's throat which

rejuvenated him as he was able to get to his feet and walk off.

Match #3- XPW Tag Team Champions Mexico's Most Wanted (Halloween and Damien

666) defeated The New Black Panters (Smokey Carmichael and Malcolm XL {Brian

XL}). This was the match of the night. I was a little disappointed that

Ron Killings (K-Kwik) was not in the match, but by half way through this

match, I could care less. Too many good spots to list. This match totally

changed the crowd as from this point out there were few ECW chants and many

XPW chants throughout the show. I forget the name of the move, but the

finish came when Halloween held Carmichael by the legs and swung him around

in circles, then on the last rotation, Damien 666 dropkicked Carmichael in

the head as he swung by, leading to the pinfall. Totally insane match with

Mexico's Most Wanted and XL standing out.

Match #4- XPW Deathmatch Champion Supreme defeated The Hardcore Homo Angel

in a very sick and brutal match. The Tag Title match was by far the match

of the night, but the star of the night was The Hardcore Homo Angel. One

thing ECW and Paul Heyman were geniouses at was taking an unknown and

getting him over through booking. Angel was the first on this show to

follow that pattern. When he came out, not that many people seemed to care.

By the end of the match he left to a standing ovation and I am sure will

be met with applause on his next time here. He took too many sick bumps to

name as the ring was surrounded and loaded with barbed wire board and light

tubes. Angel went through every table, every board and every tube as both

men were bloodied by the end. The finish came when Supreme powerbombed

Angel off the balcony near the Eagle's Nest. I hate to keep mentioning ECW,

but in all my years at the Arena, I never saw a match like this. Was very

violent and there were 2-3 spots where I just cringed and felt guilty for

watching.

After intermission, XPW debuted a segment called The Juice Bar with Juventud

Guerrera. Juvi went on a ran ripping the fans and putting himself over,

which led to .....

Match #5- Juventud Guerrera defeated Chris Chetti. This was the only weak

match on the show as Chetti messed up a few spots and didn't seem to be into

it. Everyone has a bad night and I am sure he will bounce back as he is

very talented. Juvi keep beating on Chetti after the match until he was run

off by Julio Dinero.

Match #6- "Vicious" Vic Grimes defeated Little Guido and Altar Boy Luke in a

Three Way Dance. This was another case of the crowd not caring about a

worker (Altar Boy) and the booking getting him over during the course of the

match. Altar Boy showed a lot of talent and skill and has me looking

forward to seeing him work again. Altar Boy was the first eliminated as he

gave up when Guido and Grimes streched him simultaneously. Grimes got the

win with a "Styles Clash" on Guido.

Match #7- XPW TV Champion "The Rock Superstar" Kaos (with Veronica Caine and

G.Q. Money) defeated Chris Hamrick in a Ladder Match. Another action packed

match which saw 5 ladders used (maybe more, I lost count) and both men

bloodied. Hamrick took a couple sick bumps including one off the HUGE

ladder and over the top rope through a table, except, only his feet went

through the table as the rest of him hit the concrete. Kaos was able to

climb the ladder while Hamrick was out on the outside. As Kaos celebrated

his win, Danny Doring ran in and attacked him. He said this was the

building he made his name in, and tonight is Danny Doring's Takeover!!!

Match #8- XPW Heavyweight Champion "The Franchise" Shane Douglas (with Lizzy

Borden) defeated Terry Funk. Before the match started, Shane Douglas

announced that effective midnight, he is the new owner of the ECW Arena, and

all the other feds such as CZW and Blue Meanie's fed will have to kiss his

ass if they ever want to run the building again. He also told the fans

they were hardcore for saying F You to the people who pressured them not to

show up tonight. This was a very short match for good reason. Both men

were bloodied early and went to the outside. The fight spilled outside the

Arena. When they came back in, Funk's arm was limp and bleading heavily.

His arm was torn very badly and very deep. It was a gruesome site. They

went right to the finish. Shane piledrove Funk, but Funk kicked out. The

ref still called for the bell as towels were brought in to stop the

bleeding. Funk went on to attack Borden and piledrive her, but was then

taken out of the ring by security as the continued to wrap his arm in a

blanket.

Notes: This was an extremely entertaining show that had some of everything.

The Arena has not come close to catching the ECW atmosphere since ECW

folded until now. I am not saying XPW is the new ECW or even comparing

them. But XPW by far outdid everyone else who has run the building since.

The set up was very professional and the event was very organized in every

aspect, from the ticket selling outside the Arena, to getting the fans in

the building, to the flow of the show. You would be surprised how few feds

know how to do those things in an organized manner, but everything was

smooth for XPW. Like the man or hate the man, Rob Black runs a good show

and seems to know what he is doing.

I overheard a building employee talking about a certain promoter and his two

friends being kicked out of the Arena the week before for a previous theft.

So I guess the internet rumors were true.

Valentina was in attendance at the show. I hope they use her in the future

as she would be a good addition to the roster as a valet and possibly a

female worker.

Billy Reil was backstage.

Rob Black never made an on camera appearance but was backstage.

Next Arena show was announced as being October 5th.

XPW TV starts in Philadelphia on Monday, September 2nd at midnight and will

be called Monday Nightmare.

If you would like future reports from me on XPW or any other shows, just let

me know."

sounds good, no?

I am sure that if Rob Black would have come out to the ring he would have been shot byt someone. He was smart to stay in the back.

Heh, that seemed like a sweet show. I agree that Rob was smart to stay back and away from all the action.

Kind of makes me laugh that XPW was sooo anti ECW...and yet they need to rely on former ECW workers cause their homegrown talent just isn't good enough.

I am sure that if Rob Black would have come out to the ring he would have been shot byt someone

I would watch this show if it ever happened

Sorry, ive never seen an XPW show..just wondering WHY everyone hates Rob Black? I've heard of him promoting things and never paying off with them..is that the main reason? Or has he done something seriously devilish in order to deserve such hatred?

Thanks, Illusion

Well...I'd venture a guess that he was responsible for taking Messiah's thumb...that's pretty much the general opinion of most people that know about him.

He's just a dirtbag pornographer who promotes his indy fed with porno money...WHICH I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH...but it's the shittest wrestling you'll ever see...HENCE all the ECW names brought in.

He also pretty much said he was going to do the biggest thing of all time, blah blah blah...and absolutly NOTHING came of it...the funny thing was, right before that he was ripping into internet sites and wrestling magazines for not promotiing XPW...funny enough, all the people he bitched at over that decided to report that XPW show...where he promised the world and gave nothing.

XPW blows hard
