Those tapes have some pretty great stuff on there but the majority of the stuff is good but definetly not essential or overly great.

Personally I don't think you can go wrong with either of those guys. Even their crap matches, in my book, is better than most wrestling out there. And there is definitely some phenomenal stuff on that tape.

 

It's too bad the Taue/Kawada vs Misawa/Kobashi match from 95 isn't on there, though. I think that's my favouritest match ever.

Why on earth have the compilers concentrated on the last five years when both these guys peaks were between 1990 and 1996? Odd.

 

Evil Ash, those two tapes look pretty damn good. I've not seen them but I'm looking for a Jumbo / Tsuruta comp. myself so I'd get it!

Well, you've got (arguably) two of the best men's singles matches of all time and the best men's tag match of all time on on one tape, which I would say is pretty damn good.

Compilation tapes are sometimes good and sometimes very bad. In the case of AJPW, I would consider them to be harmful at first, unless laid out properly.

 

For a complete run down of AJPW that would cost you around 500.00 in the end (maybe less), here is how you should do it.

Jumbo Tsuruta Memorial Vol. 2 (w/ 6/76 v Funk and 6/77 Race) (Lynch or whoever)

I would suggest purchasing a few customs with the following themes:

 

Stan Hansen 1993

 

2/28, 4/16, 5/23, 7/29, 11/30

 

Mis v Kaw Feud

 

10/92, 3/93, 7/93, 4/94, 6/94, 4/95, 7/95, etc

 

COver the rest of 1993 with a Kobashi 1993 comp which would cover the Big Four feud plus any of Kobashi's other big matches.

 

Then I would cover the 8 Mis/Kob v Kaw/Taue on a comp tape.

 

Then you can go in a variety of directions with a 1996 comp, a Taue "Growth" comp (though many of you probably will think Taue is bad forever).

 

That puts together a pretty decent colllection if you have some $$ to dish out.

 

Also, a random Kawada comp to get his classics v Williams, Albright, etc.

I just finished the Tenryu/Tsuruta and it is awesome. You can find the tape at Tabe's website. Im willing to call the 6/5/89 match one of if not the best match of the 80's

The story on the match selection for that Misawa comp is because AJPW has released two sets of tapes chronicleing his career. The 5 part five crown king series, which covers 1984-1992, and the three part memorial fights which cover 1993-95.
