Guest Crippler15 Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Those tapes have some pretty great stuff on there but the majority of the stuff is good but definetly not essential or overly great.
Guest Evil Ash Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Personally I don't think you can go wrong with either of those guys. Even their crap matches, in my book, is better than most wrestling out there. And there is definitely some phenomenal stuff on that tape. It's too bad the Taue/Kawada vs Misawa/Kobashi match from 95 isn't on there, though. I think that's my favouritest match ever. Where'd you pick 'em up? While yer lookin' for input, maybe I should grab some. I just ordered a tape including the following: Part 1: Tenryu/Tsuruta 1988-90 Comp GENICHIRO TENRYU VS JUMBO TSURUTA, 10/28/88 Genichiro Tenryu vs Jumbo Tsuruta, 4/20/89 ( GENICHIRO TENRYU VS JUMBO TSURUTA, 6/5/89 GENICHIRO TENRYU VS JUMBO TSURUTA, 10/11/89 Genichiro Tenryu vs Jumbo Tsuruta, 4/19/90 Part 2: UWFI vs NJ "Battle Formation '96" Shinjiro Ohtani & Koji Kanemoto vs Yuji Nagata & Tokimitsu Ishizawa Randy Savage vs Hiroyoshi Tenzan Lex Luger vs Masa Chono Genichiro Tenryu vs Tatsumi Fujinami Great Muta vs Hakushi Shiro Koshinaka, Akitoshi Saito (?), Michiyoshi Ohara, & Akira Nogami vs Riki Choshu, Satoshi Kojima, Takashi Iizuka, & Osamu Nishimura JUSHIN LIGER VS GREAT SASUKE Road Warriors & Power Warrior vs Rick & Scott Steiner & Scott Norton NOBUHIKO TAKADA VS SHINYA HASHIMOTO Anyone seen these matches? Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Why on earth have the compilers concentrated on the last five years when both these guys peaks were between 1990 and 1996? Odd. Evil Ash, those two tapes look pretty damn good. I've not seen them but I'm looking for a Jumbo / Tsuruta comp. myself so I'd get it!
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Well, you've got (arguably) two of the best men's singles matches of all time and the best men's tag match of all time on on one tape, which I would say is pretty damn good.
Guest Tim Cooke Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Compilation tapes are sometimes good and sometimes very bad. In the case of AJPW, I would consider them to be harmful at first, unless laid out properly. For a complete run down of AJPW that would cost you around 500.00 in the end (maybe less), here is how you should do it. Destroyer Comp Vols 1-2 (Elliott Jenrette) Jumbo Tsuruta Memorial Vol. 2 (w/ 6/76 v Funk and 6/77 Race) (Lynch or whoever) Choshu's Army Invades AJPW Vols 1-4 (Barnett) K 88-90 K 94-98 (ALL FROM BARNETT) K 100-2 Lynch Custom #1 (2:40 SP) 4/90 Kawada unmasks Misawa 5/26/90 6 man tag 6/8/90 Mis v Jumbo 9/1/90 Mis v Jumbo 9/1/90 Fans v Kikuchi/Malenko 10/28/90 6 man 12/90 RWTL match 4/20/91 6 man Lynch Custom #2 (2:40 SP) 5/91 Jum v Kob 10/91 Jumb v Kaw 11/91 RWTL match 2/92 Can Am v Kikuchi/Kawada 5/22/92 6 man 5/25/92 Can Am v KObashi/Kikuchi 10/92 Misawa v Kawada From there, you build slowly. I would suggest purchasing a few customs with the following themes: Stan Hansen 1993 2/28, 4/16, 5/23, 7/29, 11/30 Mis v Kaw Feud 10/92, 3/93, 7/93, 4/94, 6/94, 4/95, 7/95, etc COver the rest of 1993 with a Kobashi 1993 comp which would cover the Big Four feud plus any of Kobashi's other big matches. Then I would cover the 8 Mis/Kob v Kaw/Taue on a comp tape. Then you can go in a variety of directions with a 1996 comp, a Taue "Growth" comp (though many of you probably will think Taue is bad forever). That puts together a pretty decent colllection if you have some $$ to dish out. Also, a random Kawada comp to get his classics v Williams, Albright, etc. Tim
Guest Johnny Blaze Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Who is this Jeff Lynch guy. I've heard a few people mention him. Does he have any kind of online catalogue I can check out, and if so, where is it??
Guest TheyCallMeMark Report post Posted September 4, 2002 Part 1: Tenryu/Tsuruta 1988-90 Comp GENICHIRO TENRYU VS JUMBO TSURUTA, 10/28/88 Genichiro Tenryu vs Jumbo Tsuruta, 4/20/89 ( GENICHIRO TENRYU VS JUMBO TSURUTA, 6/5/89 GENICHIRO TENRYU VS JUMBO TSURUTA, 10/11/89 Genichiro Tenryu vs Jumbo Tsuruta, 4/19/90 Where's that at? I saw some Tenryu, and I have been looking for a comp JUST LIKE THAT!
Guest Crippler15 Report post Posted September 4, 2002 I just finished the Tenryu/Tsuruta and it is awesome. You can find the tape at Tabe's website. Im willing to call the 6/5/89 match one of if not the best match of the 80's
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2002 yeah, and let it be known that Jumbo would have three seperate matches that count as match of the decade contenders...wow. How much was that comp?
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted September 4, 2002 The story on the match selection for that Misawa comp is because AJPW has released two sets of tapes chronicleing his career. The 5 part five crown king series, which covers 1984-1992, and the three part memorial fights which cover 1993-95.
