Brock bombing as champ?

Recommended Posts

here are some house show numbers since the Lesnar title victory:

9/1 (afternoon show) Dallas, Texas

(drew approx. 3,500 in a building that seats 20,000. Upper deck didn't need to be used)

9/1 (evening show) Chicago, Allstate Arena

(building seats 19,000, was less than half full, upper deck closed)

9/2 LaCross, Wisconsin-- 1,500 in a 6,000 seat building

Showing, that the WWE has blown it.

Brock was not built up for a title reign and it seems like he is bombing so far as the champ.

Of course the WWE writer idiots will blame it on Brock and not themselves. Then they will hand the title to HHH.

Painful..

That and attendance has been down all over. The Dallas one is a little suspect to me though.

House show business : down across the board

Brock : champ for one week

Anyone trying to do an analysis of his title reign at this stage is a dolt.

He'll get blamed for the awful buyrate of the next PPV though.

This has been going on for months. I'm not defending Brock, but its hard to blame him for events where most of the tickets were sold before he was champion.

I went to a Flint, Michigan house show last July...if I had to guess I'd say they drew 1,500 tops...and that's the first time they've been in Flint in probably 8 years or so.

House show attendence is WAY down...they are playing to tiny houses these days.

WWE is going to have to consistantly put on good show after good show to get the fans back...no quick fixs...they've lost a shitload of casual fans that they're going to have to get back.

And you cannot just blame whoever has the title on low attendence

"9/2 LaCross, Wisconsin-- 1,500 in a 6,000 seat building"

Who's going to pay for a house show when you can sit at home and watch Raw for free... even if it's bound to suck.

"He'll get blamed for the awful buyrate of the next PPV though."

Actually...now he and Taker can share the blame with HHH/RVD.

Although I tend to think that HHH/RVD would result in more buys than Brock/Taker...

because Brock hasn't been anything that people want to see...and Taker hasn't drawn anything since his return in 2000.

I guarantee that the majority of those tickets sold were when the Rock was still champ. Remember Lesnar has only been champ for over a week now.

I think your bitching is starting just a tad too early.

Haven't the house show attendances been way down for a while?

I agree that Brock was built up horribly to be a champ, and if anything the recent house shows should go up because Brock has just started getting some form of heat.

I think it's more that the entire WWE is not giving what the fans want, and it's been boring television because of it. HHH, misusing the likes of Angle & Jericho.

People (well, marks at least) don't pay to see heels, they pay to see the good guys. So if the house show numbers are down, it's probably because the babyfaces scheduled to be at these shows aren't drawing. In the Smackdown crew's case, that would be Undertaker, Edge, Rey Mysterio, and probably Rikishi. See, not a very strong babyface lineup, is it? If The Rock were on Smackdown, these numbers would be higher. Don't blame Brock.

You guys need to cool it with the whole Brock hating thing. He hasn't impressed me too much in WWE yet. But remember, a whole shitload of you guys hated on Angle when he first debuted and look how good he is now. I'm not saying Brock is as good as Angle, but give him time, he could still improve by leaps and bounds.

I think the days of blaming the champ for poor attendance are over. When the last guy to have a three month title reign is Chris Jericho (and this is not a knock on Jericho, but look at how he's been used since), fans aren't necessarily paying to see the champ.

How come every thread that BPS posts in has to end up with something about RVD or Triple H?

Personally I don't know why people hate Brock other than the fact that McMahon shoved him down our throats for a long time. I mean it's as if people have DECIDED not to like him, and are sticking with that decision quite nicely. As for his title reign, if there IS a problem it's cause he's been made to look like a fool for the uber ego Triple H.

Shoving him down our throats? I thought Vince was just giving us what we wanted. I seem to recall everyone on the board LOVING Brock when he first started showing up. What happened?

What happened was:

The love of Brock wore off as soon as he stepped in the ring for a match...

...and sucked.

Don't you think "sucked" is kind of harsh? Brock is/was no worse than Rhyno was in ECW, and no one seemed to hate him. And wasn't Rhyno pushed to the main event early on as well? At least Brock is way better than your main eventers from a few months ago, i.e. Undertaker and Hogan.

ECW was a lot different than the WWE.

A guy who wasn't good being the champion of a comapany that isn't good...who cares.

But when you have the roster that the WWE has...

a bad wrestler as champion is just wrong.

But the WWE usually has bad wrestlers as champion (Taker, Hogan, HHH's run) but at least those guys had heat.

My problem isn't with Brock...it's with the WWE's thinking that putting Brock in his position is anything resembling a good idea.

At this point...he is better suited to be in the Jamal and Rosie role on RAW...

Rhyno was never pushed as a main eventer- he was a jobber to all the top stars.

Rhyno has had some really good matches, Brock hasn't.

rhyno DID pin the rock at least once, come on. Brock seems to have done the impossible in winning over a Long Island crowd too. I too say give it time, he seems to be getting some heat now.

Um, he won both the TV and World titles. I'd say that's a push.

Again..

you are comparing a dying cult level bingo hall playing sideshow...

to the biggest wrestling company in North America...maybe the world.

So...

no.

Brock hasn't wrestled actively horrible enough to warrant all this hate. He's had one good opponent (the Rock) in five months of being in the WWE. We're like the only message board I've seen that hates Brock so actively from his push that we can't recognize he's a decent wrestler. Give him time; facing Undertaker isn't going to help.

And Rey Mysterio is the new Ricky Morton.
