Football...glorious football....

Yes... football is back on Thursday FINALLY. After months we can get back to the real America's Game and the only thing worthy of being called FOOTBALL. Fuck Soccer.

How can it be football when they use a rugby shaped ball?

Foot=ball: As in 'you use your feet' to play the game instead of your hands (with a ROUND ball) That's the rule the rest of the world seem to go by anyway.

Ribbing aside, there's always been a question about 'American F**tball' I've been curious about.

Why is your season so short? How come in other American sports the season can have a ridiculous number of games before the playoffs even start and American Football have so few? (a 14 game regular season right?)

It's 16 games long plus a bye week, actually. And football has so few games because of the high-impact nature of it. First of all, even with a 16-game schedule, players are being forced to retire at age 32. Look at Terrell Davis: he was 29 years old and one of the premier backs iun the league, but his knees were so shot from playing football over the past seven years that he had no choice but to "retire". If a team played 30-40 football games a year, they'd need 100 players to actually make it through the year with enough guys to play a game. Look at a sport like baseball - it's a relatively low-impact game that doesn't see its players get hurt a lot. So they can play 162 games and not worry about the welfare of their players so much.

American Football season is Sept to Jan or Feb with the games usually on Sunday, Monday, and the rare Thurday and Saturday game.

So what's everyone looking forward to this season.

Personally, I want to see how Michael Vick does as the starter in Atlanta and how the Washington Redskins fare under Spurrier. I think they'll make the playoffs, maybe even 2nd round, but that's it.

I want to see if Smith breaks the record, myself.

Also, I want to see the Dolphins do a face plant because Wannstedt = satan.

$10 says that by Week 10 we'll all be bitching about the parity in the league, but until then...

I can't wait to see how the Steelers snatch defeat from the jaws of victory this year...

I'm waiting with baited breath for da bears to crush the opposition. The Colts wish they were Indiana's team.

I'm looking at Emmitt Smith breaking Payton's rushing record.

I, too, am looking at the Dolphins to not only once again underacheive, but to totally miss the playoffs.

I am looking for the inevitable Randy Moss meltdown.

I want to see how David Carr and Joey Harrington do.

Well, I want to see Emmitt break the record and see what new way Kordell finds to choke this year in an important game.

Oh yeah... that Vick character... I can't wait to see someone rock his world with that shitty Falcon O-line.

Also, I'm waiting to see what my boy, Shaun Alexander, is going to do this season.

Terry Glenn had better work out for my boys...

It doesn't matter if he does. Favre will find a way. He'll throw passes to himself if he has to and STILL make the playoffs.

the big Question is who will be the Cowboys QB

Jerry Jones = Vince McMahon

will the monster push of Quincy Carter be successful or a failure just like last year.....or will the Hoss from Arkansas be the starter by week 4?

Posted

Well, who's banging Jones' daughter?

Anyway, I'm very intertested in the Pats rookie class. Deion Branch, Daniel Graham et al.

EDIT: Patriots Yearbook on ESPN2, must watch.

c'mon seahawks.

you are in a tough division, but you are better than those damn rams and niners

I am just waiting to see how another Philly team will be able to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory this year. Hopefully McNabb rises to the upper echelon of passers this year to go along with his mobility.

I am interested in how Spurrier does against teams like the Eagles who can go nine deep in the secondary to counteract their crappy receivers and QB.

I also want to see what mediocre team the AFC sends to the Super Bowl.

The Seahawks being better than the Rams and The Niners? LMFAO That is the funniest thing I've read all night.

The Seahawks will get their welcome to the NFC West greeting by the Niners soon enough, then they'll get theirs from the Rams too. Hope the Seahawks enjoy their stay in the NFC West, they and Arizona now replace the Saints and the Falcons as the whipping boys of the division.

I am very interested in seeing how the Lions will do this year. They went 2-14 last year, and I am curious to see if they actually go out and do better than that this year. My fear is that they will somehow manage to lose all 16 games or go 1-15, which would totally suck.

I hope Harrington has a good year, even though I heard he was the 3rd stringer this year. Being beaten out by Ty Detmer does not bode well for any player. Nevertheless, uh...GO LIONS!

LOL! Isn't that illegal?

Holy SHIT! TY FUCKING DETMER beat Harrington out for the back-up spot? Oh man, that's a BAD sign for the rook.

Not necessarily. Not that Detmer's even a decent QB, but you're not much better off going into the season with a rookie as your starter. Not to mention, if he does horribly, you risk his confidence being totally shot.

Oh, I wasn't saying Harrington should have been starting(which he isn't since Mike McMahon is). I'm just saying it's pretty bad when a washed-up never-was like Ty Detmer is ahead of you on the depth chart.

Working backward ...

But it's better for Detroit to err on the side of caution here. I'm sure the thinking is to give Harrington a clipboard and let him stand next to the offensive coordinator for a season. The Lions aren't going to win a lot of games this year anyway, so build for the future. The last thing they need is to throw him in pressure situations like another big-name Pac-10 quarterback that got thrown in there too early. You know who I'm talking about.

Yeah, but knowing Favre, he'll just have his fullback stand two yards in front of him and bounce the ball of his helmet 50 times a game, if that'll win him ballgames.

Actually, neither the Cardinals nor the Seahawks are going to be that bad this year. If theywere in their old divisions, both would be capable of 10-win seasons with a little luck. Plus, Dilfer REFUSES TO LOSE.

Keep looking. I think Moss is going to have a monster year. He might not get 2 out of every 5 passes like Tice has claimed, but he'll be very involved in the offense. There is no receiver in the league who's more talented than Moss (when he wants to play, of course, which I think he will this year). I look for him to have 2000 yards receiving, and 15 touchdowns.

i thought it was going to be Terrell

until last night. very ugly.

And it cant be Marvin Harrison (too much competition for the ball). On with Moss!

seahawks, cardinals, and the Jets would all benefit from a differnt division. AFC east and NFC West are easily THE toughest divisions

You think petty things like rules can hold Favre down? He crushes them like the insignificant bugs they are. Favre is like iron, you cannot break him.

The Green Bay Packers organization, as well as all of its fans, disavow any knowledge of said game. Now go about your business of attending Green and Gold church this weekend.

I am looking forward to week 2 on Monday night when McNabb thinks it is safe to call a draw play and Arrington is waiting right there to stuff him ALL NIGHT LONG......

Yeah, but you have to see how he reacts to playing less than .500 ball all year. Big year? Probably. But if they're 4-8 after 12 games ...

He's going to DESTROY some poor quarterback this year. And since that's a Redskins reference, I have to make my obligatory EIGHT-AND-EIGHT~! reminder.
