Guest Kibagami Report post Posted September 5, 2002 Thursday, September 19th. The 9:30 Club. Catch-22 is playing. Best. Ska. Band. Ever. If you live anywhere in the DC area...go. That is all. S.
Guest Ace309 Report post Posted September 5, 2002 omg I'm so fucking jealous. Best show I've ever been to, discounting anything involving the Pilfers, was Catch 22, Mustard Plug, Edna's Goldfish and Mexican Cession (which is local).

Guest HVilleThugg Report post Posted September 6, 2002 Well, I live IN DC, about 10 minutes away from the 9:30 club. However, I don't really like ska music that much, and being the black man that I am, I'd stick out like the sourest thumb evar! However, if yall are going out to party afterwards, I'd be intersted in some partying...but ska...nah, I'll pass. Although, this chick I know loves ska...and she always asks me to go to live shows with her. Dear god, please don't let her ask me...ask someone else...please. Da "afraid...so ver afraid" H
Guest AnnieEclectic Report post Posted September 6, 2002 Heh, hate to tell you Thugg but there are actually quite a few black people in ska. You probably wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb for being a black guy there. Now, being the only black guy -not- wearing two-tone like the specials did.... possibly could get you looks. But.... just dont try for the Mephiskapheles look. Ick. -Annie
Guest Ace309 Report post Posted September 7, 2002 "I will WRECK YO SHIT after I finish skanking it up." Just... um... take your big pants and timberlands, and throw on a pair of suspenders. You'll be fine.
Guest kelloggs Report post Posted September 7, 2002 What the... Flesher your gonna get the man killed... He needs to roll up into that piece like Will Smith and Martin Lawrence did in the movie Bad Boys. Non threatening and asking to borrow a cup of brown sugar as an excuse for being there. And I've heard of ska but what the hell is it. What kinda music is it comparable to. Somebody help a brother out.
Guest Chuck Woolery Report post Posted September 7, 2002 Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Mak. I can't think of any particularly standout songs off the top of my head... but they rule. Strangler's seen them at the middle east... it's basically rock with horns, I believe.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted September 7, 2002 uh good for you because... um how do i say this but... ska is just bad
Guest Ace309 Report post Posted September 8, 2002 Ska as it is today is basically reggae mixed with punk and/or rock. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones are the most prominent ska band, mainstreamwise, but if you're into Sublime it's pretty similar.
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2002 Reel Big Fish, anyone? I love those guys. "Beer" should be our national anthem. MMB rules, and Sublime rulez.
