Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted September 11, 2002 But they didn't change the my yahoo page though. I haven't been to the regular yahoo in a long time, I've been using my.yahoo as my homepage for probably 2 1/2 years. But they do have the link at the top to their tribute site and no advertising, so I give em points for that. Im ticked that Garfield for 9-11 is lame.. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted September 11, 2002 Im ticked that Garfield for 9-11 is lame.. Just like most things today are going to be, I'm sure... because today is Sept. 11th, NOONE IS ALLOWED TO BE HAPPY! HOW CAN YOU SMILE ON A DAY LIKE THIS YOU CRUEL BASTARD? YOU HATE AMERICA! HATE HATE HATE!!!! Fucking bandwagon Americans. Make me sick. Oh, and as a rebellious act throughout the day today, I'm going to wish everyone a "Happy Sept. 11th!", for mainly two reasons: 1. To see what reaction I get 2. Because everyone should try and cheer up and be HAPPY and move on with our daily lives. I'm sick of hearing the same tribute shit over and over and over again. Not to be a dick or anything, but like I've said before (and this is borderline flaming/ban material right here, so I hope it doesn't happen to me, but I want to exercise that little First Amendment we all of a sudden love so much), the entire WORLD didn't change. It was just simply a wake-up call to a country of naive morons who only looked at themselves and not the rest of the world, and thought they were safe from everything. Well, duh. And EVERYONE'S lives shouldn't change (outside of those who live in NYC, or Washington DC, who were directly affected by the 9/11 attacks) because of what some dickhead with a deathwish planned out for us. So, in that spirit, let's all have a happy day instead of this retarded "mourning session" we've been having for the past year. I'm sick of it, and damned if I think most of y'all aren't. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted September 11, 2002 Well maybe if at least one person agrees with me... Then truly I cna handle the backlash..If it was me against the world... A bit tougher, but I might be able to handle it. I'm not as experienced a debater as everyone else on this board and I think I would normally get destroyed in a "flame war", since either way I think someone had that pic in their avatar that said "Arguing on the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics. Guest swan Report post Posted September 11, 2002 Oh, and as a rebellious act throughout the day today, I'm going to wish everyone a "Happy Sept. 11th!" I do agree with you somewhat but I don’t think going around and saying that to just anyone would be a good idea. If you were to say that to a war vet you run the risk of being wrestled to the ground, having your nut sack slit open and having your balls force fed to you. Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted September 11, 2002 What the hell is a bandwagon American? It's unfortunate it took such a tragedy for alot of people to become more patriotic, but WTF is wrong with showing love for your country. You are being a dick. You could of said you think people should move on, and have a happy day alot better than you did.
Guest Midnight Express83 Report post Posted September 11, 2002 I don't think he is being a dick. I think it is more with the fact that people just stopp caring about this neo-nationlisic movement. It isn't they have no regard for human life lost, its more they have no regaurd for peoplesaying all this YAY USA bullshit while waving their flags until Decmener then bringing them out of the mothballs for another 2 weeks before ever remember why they brought them out. Eric S from 411wrestling had a good point about the whole 9/11 Wrestling News, Opinions, Etc. 9.11.02 Posted By Eric Szulczewski on 09.11.02 Sometimes fate is a cruel bitch. Sometimes she deals you four aces and a king. This is one of those latter occasions for me. If it had been anyone else here getting the column today, you'd probably be saddled with some maudlin babble and stream of bullshit. Look, I love Grut and Flea and Hyatte and Ashish, but what you need is a nice, cold dose of reality breaking through the FUD, and as talented and as wonderful as they are, they're a little too caring of their fellow human beings to be that cold. Not me. This is the time when you need a cynic, a time when you need someone who will say the things that make other people uncomfortable to put on the record. So let me start slapping you in the face in order to wake you up from your paranoia-induced comas. WHAT I LEARNED FROM SEPTEMBER 11TH 1) Barbara Ols...oh, no, I'm not getting caught in that trap again. 2) The United States is full of jingoistic surface patriots: How many flags did you see flying outside of houses before September 11th last year? How many bumper stickers with American flags did you see that weren't stuck on pre-1991 vintage autos? Yes, for some people, last year's events did strike a chord that awoke true patriotism: public service and personal sacrifice. But let's face it, for most people, "patriotism" went something like this: stick a "United We Stand" suction-cup sign in the rear window and get a warm, fuzzy feeling that they've "done their part". If you want to show your patriotism, start doing things that truly show your love for your country. Deeds, not words. I can back up my patriotism with a DD214 and six and a half years of government service on top of that. There are some of you out there who can do the same or similar, and I'm not directing this at you. We've earned the right to compliment or complain. I'm directing it at the people who didn't think thing one about the United States a year ago, but who are now super-patriots. You don't have to go out and join the Army or abandon your career in order to enter government service. How about being honest with your taxes for once? How about not trying to get out of jury duty? How about actually going out to vote in two months? Civic pride comes with civic duty. 3) The United States is full of intolerant xenophobes: Remember the aftermath of last year? Vandalized mosques, Arab-Americans harassed on the street, that Secret Service agent forbidden to go on a plane to join the Presidential Security Detail. All because nineteen brainwashed fruit loops inculcated with a severe misinterpretation of the Qu'ran who happened to have had swarthy skin and Semitic noses decided to take social protest against a government to an incredible extreme. This is supposed to be the one place on Earth designed to include everyone different, a place to start a new life where things like race and religion are secondary. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearing to be free..." and all that. But let something burst our bubble of insularity and perception of invulnerability, and all that gets thrown away. Welcome to the outside world, America. Welcome to a world that ignores that philosophy I mentioned above. Welcome to a world where relatively minor changes in the way one worships can cause generations to grow up in a constant state of siege, like Northern Ireland. Welcome to a world where, in some areas, removing a woman's clitoris or denying her medical care or making her wear a chador is culturally acceptable (and you think that barring a woman from membership at Augusta National is a social crime). Welcome to a world where a lot of people would kill for the chance to live in the worst slums you could imagine, because it'd be an improvement. Welcome to a world where a good portion of an entire continent is dying of AIDS because they can't afford to be gouged by pharmaceutical companies for treatment. Welcome to a world where civil war is still regarded as a legitimate means of settling a complaint against a government. Welcome to a world where countries still regard Mutually Assured Destruction as a diplomatic tool. Most of the world is still poor and hungry and desperate and even more intolerant than some Americans. And they don't like us because we're rich and fed and content and supposedly intolerant of their particular philosophy. The difference between them and Osama bin Laden is money, charisma, and a statement that appeals to their particular philosophy of life. It isn't over. It's only beginning. 4) The Alleged President Of The United States is an idiot: Well, I've been saying that since before November 2000, but his idiocy is shining through. He's still trying to make political gain from this situation, but the afterglow's worn off, and he's repeating the mistakes of his father, not realizing that it truly is the economy, stupid. Of course, he's trying to blame the fact that the economy's still in the toilet on the events of last year. Okay, I can see the airlines taking it up the BUTT (and after my experience with SouthWorst, they deserve all the anal rape they can get), but can you honestly tell me that September 11th caused the Stupid Accounting Tricks that sunk WorldCom, Enron, and Global Crossing? September 11th alone didn't cause the nation's #2 retailer to go into bankruptcy protection, or for the #4 meat producer in the country to do the same (I said that Farmland was #3 before, but I double-checked the data, and they're actually #4; mea culpa). I've had people writing in all the time to justify Dubbaya's stances on the economy, but the truth is that none of the "economic stimulus packages" he's pushed have worked. Time for a change, and it starts on the first Tuesday in November. 5) Mad Dog Cheney is obsessed with Saddam Hussein: Hmmmm, realized that you fucked up eleven years ago, Dick, when you stopped Schwartzkopf and company from finishing the job out of fear that the American public wouldn't tolerate some actual bloodshed on CNN instead of a nearly-bloodless excuse for a "war" designed to protect Bush Senior's buddies in the oil industry? Now you want another shot at it, using "terrorism" as a smokescreen to cover your own incompetence. Of course, you'll never admit it. Hell, it took McNamara a quarter century to admit that he was wrong about Vietnam. Meanwhile, Colin Powell is behaving like the good soldier he was, saying that he had his orders from the only two people he had to report to as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs: the Secretary of Defense and the President. That's Mad Dog and the prexy's dad, in case you forgot. Of course, Powell's excuse didn't cut it at Nuremburg in '46, but he's actually following a policy that has the best interests of America in mind, so I'll cut him a little slack. I'll still claim that the presence of a Bush in the White House, Mad Dog pulling the strings, and Powell at Foggy Bottom aggravated bin Laden to go with Plan A instead of a less-destructive Plan B like the USS Cole bombing. Something would have happened, but not this. 6) Chicago now has the two tallest buildings in the US: Hey, take civic pride where you can get it. 7) Too little airport security sucks. Too much airport security sucks major ass: This really only applies to one airport: Chicago Midway. I don't know why, but every time I fly out of there, I get searched. It doesn't matter how I look, pre-LASIK or post, suit or sweats, whether I set off the metal detector or not, I get searched. It doesn't happen anywhere else, just there. What's the "potential terrorist profile" there? Blond guy with short haircut and carry-on luggage? It's a little humiliating, and considering I went through quarterly piss tests in the Army, I've got a large tolerance for being humiliated. Yeesh. 8) I will never buy another pair of Wranglers again: John Fogerty must cringe every time he sees that commercial. Turning one of the most angry pieces of music about social inequality ever written, "Fortunate Son", into a pseudo-patriotic jeans commercial is the most cynical misinterpretation of popular music since Reagan's abuse of Springsteen in '84. Somebody at an ad agency somewhere didn't get past the first line of the lyric sheet. Download the fucking song and listen to it. If you can't understand Fogerty's lyrics, here they are in full: Some folks are born made to wave the flag, Ooh, they're red, white and blue. And when the band plays "Hail To The Chief", Ooh, they point the cannon at you. It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son. It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no, Some folks are born silver spoon in hand, Lord, don't they help themselves, oh. But when the taxman comes to the door, Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes, It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no. It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no. Some folks inherit star spangled eyes, Ooh, they send you down to war. And when you ask them, "How much should we give?" Ooh, they only answer More! more! more! It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no military son, son. It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, one. It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate one, no no no, It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no fortunate son, no no no... It's the greatest musical indictment ever written about the abuse of privilege. It's a total j'accuse pointed at the people who used money and influence to get out of the draft and into a cushy National Guard Post, like Dubbaya, while people without that money and influence were sent to become rice paddy fodder. Of course, Fogerty wrote this before a "senator's son" decided he wasn't going to abuse his father's position, went into the Army, and served in 'Nam. You all know his name: Al Gore. Too bad, Wrangler. I like your jeans. They have nice deep pockets, wear like iron, and hug my ass really well. But you've lost a customer. Besides this thread turned into people who hate the over expoiting of 9/11 rather than rembmering it, which is in the Current Events folder with lyrics to all these US songs. I do however feel sorry for all that did lose love ones in the events before, durring, and after 9-11.

Guest bob_barron Report post Posted September 11, 2002 So maybe people weren't so patriotic pre-September 11th. Does that mean they can't be patriotic now?? I'm from New York and I think if you people were as affected by these attacks as many people I know were- you would probably not be wishing people a 'happy 9.11' Today does not have to be a day of grief but it should be a day of rembrance. Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted September 11, 2002 I agree that Sept. 11, 2002 should not have been a day where people were shoving the "This is a sad day, whether you have moved on or not" sentiment down our throats, but what do you expect from the media? Remembering that a tragedy occured one year ago is one thing, but airing this grieving ceremony all fucking day on TV is starting to piss me off. Why can't like 2 channels air it instead of 40? I think that people should try to cheer up a little, buy saying "Happy 911" is uncalled for, and that is coming from someone who is almost NEVER offended by anything.
