Guest jester Report post Posted September 11, 2002 Well, I think we're all in agreement that Lawler sucks right now, and babbles like he's in a completely different building than JR while the match goes on. Let's dare to dream and pretend WWE fires his ass tomorrow. Who would make a good replacement? Here's my thoughts: Jesse Ventura: Seems to be everyone's primary choice, and I agree. Vintage Jesse working the stick again would be exactly what's needed. He was a masterful heel commentator, always put the wrestlers over, and used true heel tactics when talking: "What do you mean he's got his foot on the rope? I don't see anything." Only problem, he's been out of it for awhile and might not be up to his old brilliance. Tazz: Tazz would be a much better colour man if he assumed the heel persona like Ventura. Hint Tazz: heels NEVER like Hogan. Tazz is one of the few people that actually tries to educate the audience. During Rey Mysterio's debut, he started to talk about what a big deal the masks are in Mexico. He needs work, but compared to Lawler he's Ventura on a roll. Of course, moving him to Raw would also leave a vacancy at Smackdown. Bischoff: "What a brilliant front-side-spinning-left-to-side-up-down-inside-outside-back kick!" Next. Flair: Has Flair ever done commentary for any extended time? He shouldn't be wrestling on a regular basis, but he stills cuts a good promo. Might that translate into a good colour man? They could still even have him wrestle from time to time. The problem with Flair is that he's pretty much a face for life now, and probably wouldn't be bought as a heel commentator. Undertaker: Retirement might come soon. His promos have their moments, plus his tweener status allows him more leeway when talking about the heels. But would he do it? Also, like Hogan, I don't think he's retiring soon. Wrestlers always go out several years too late. Mick Foley: MIght not be bad, but I think he's a face for life. Also apparently has problems with company direction. Hogan, HBK: Neither are heels, plus I think their presence in the booth would be distracting. As for HBK, last time he did commentary he just shat all over Booker T. Vince: It would be hard to accept him as an announcer again, now that we know he's the owner. PLus, do we really want him on TV again? Any thoughts, or other suggestions?
Guest BoboBrazil Report post Posted September 11, 2002 D'lo should be the color man on Raw. It is obvious he isn't going to get pushed as a wrestler, so might as well push him as an announcer, since he is the best color man they have right now, going by his work on Sunday Night Heat. I also read that Josh Matthews from Tough Enough was in the WWE Commentary training school right now, so I guess he will come in eventually.
Guest DragonflyKid Report post Posted September 11, 2002 I like the Coach/D'Lo team better than any other in the WWE. They aren't bad at calling moves and they seem to genuinely be into the matches and having fun. Anything would be better than Lawler at this point.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted September 11, 2002 Don Cyrus Callis: The Network gimmick could work Joey Styles: so what can be more entertaining than CAT FIGHT!!!!! or (insert wrestler name here)move commentary Joel Gertner: Well Well Well DDP: he could Diamond Cut the wrestlers he hates Ric Flair: if he is not the commish than let him commentate on how it was back in the day or how a professional would do such and such HBK: by being a commentator he can save several souls and repent for his DX days Randy Savage: Ohhhh Yeah Dusty Rhodes: N Public If U Will Mick Foley: get him off the robot war show and into something productive Eric Bischoff: he owns the show so why not? he is evil, I tell you Funaki: he is #1 Announcer, he speakah inglish now
Guest jester Report post Posted September 11, 2002 I forgot to add Paul Heyman. But of course, he's busy with Brocky Mavia.
Guest Olympic Slam Report post Posted September 11, 2002 I wouldn't mind of Cole/Tazz did RAW as well. Compared to JR/Lawler, they're light years better. Cole puts over ALL talent, especially the heels. Tazz actually says what certain moves are rather than "takedown" and "slams." The two also put over the psychology in the matches, always mentioning injured portions of the wrestlers and sometimes even adding "mental" psychology as well. They're not perfect, but certainly a step from the Hoss n' Hymen connection.
Guest Strike Force! Report post Posted September 11, 2002 I don't think it's a problem concerning WHO is doing the announcing but HOW they do it. There seems to be a lack of persona in the announcers (Lawler, Tazz, etc.) If they are going to be heels, they need to play up the heel and not like the faces. I sort of liked Heyman as an announcer. The old school fan in me would like to see Heenan return. I miss Heenan and Monsoon together.
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted September 11, 2002 I like the Coach/D'Lo team better than any other in the WWE. They aren't bad at calling moves and they seem to genuinely be into the matches and having fun. Anything would be better than Lawler at this point. Though the objectivity is a bit off with those two. Half the time during matches either the Shill Masta Coach is Talking about a Smackdown main event 3 times per match, or they make fun of Raven. Raven should get Haku as a Brute Inforcer to Beat down Dlo then Raven just DDT the SHIT out of the Coach, because that non wrestler is getting Uppidity Onto the Announcer search. people should stop dreaming about Venture, the soon to be former Governor probably never going too leave Minnasota, and I doubt he would take a step backwards in his past to become a Commentator for the WWE. He spend the last handful of years to try to separate his wrestling persona and the Governor persona. Flair could be a decent enough announcer, if he gets serious and cuts the woo's except for maybe forthe Chops. If Jim Cornette could pull double duty as head of OVW and as Commentator he would make a great Heel Announcer. Hell if Vince can spend years pretending to be just a Announcer as his Figure head President Jack Tunney was running around, so could Cornette heyman is aggrivatingly great Heel announcer, espically when he tries to piss off JR. still remember JR get so fed up at the Survivor Series 2001 that he says.. Why don't we just start a ECW chant right now. lol Now that he isn't doing much announcing how about make Howard Finkle a commentator, he has been flexing his Clude heel muscle...that flabby one. Put RAVEN back in the Commentator's booth... maybe even Dreamer. those are my suggestions so far.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2002 I sometimes think that JR and Heyman were just really good at portraying hatred, cause what reason do they have to really hate each other? I say either: Heyman, Ventura, Dusty Rhodes, Raven, DDP, or move Coach and D'Lo up.
Guest Phoenix Fury Legdrop Report post Posted September 11, 2002 lol Now that he isn't doing much announcing how about make Howard Finkle a commentator, he has been flexing his Clude heel muscle...that flabby one Actually, I heard Fink's a hell of a commentator. I remember hearing about him doing color for the MSG house shows on the MSG TV network. They just never let him do any. As for a replacement? Well, Steven Prazak's avaliable, and he's a damn good color man.
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2002 First off, no way is Styles going to commentate. He's doing JUST fine with 1bob. Secondly, if Dusty Rhodes came back...I'd mark out. I personally didn't think he sucked that much as an announcer. Thirdly, give the position back to Heyman already...
Guest Rob Edwards Report post Posted September 11, 2002 I'd suggest Raven his in ring career isn't going anywhere and even half his old Johnny Polo routine would be a lot better than The King is offering now
Guest Brian Report post Posted September 11, 2002 Except Raven doesn't want to announce, which is why he's working HEAT only. Has anyone mentioned Stevie Ray?
Guest Perfect_Bo Report post Posted September 11, 2002 I'm sorry to break people's heart, but I doubt that Raven is going anywhere any time soon...and he's great on the mike...why not him? Bo
Guest BaldFish Report post Posted September 11, 2002 I think DDP would be a good choice, especially if you gave Michael Cole a heel turn. Think about it: Ross/Cole (Cole as the smarmy little git we all think he is already) and Tazz/DDP. Or, if DDP is a no-go, you could always use Heyman... once Brock turns face. (all it'd take is a single SSP) Any of the "greats", like HBK/Hogan/Taker/Foley, would overshadow the position. Shane O'Mac would be a good call for RAW, though, especially once the Bisch vs. McMahon angle gets into full swing. And later, once Regal hangs up his boots, he's almost a sure thing for the color position, if he wants it.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Report post Posted September 11, 2002 Anyone but Joey Styles, Joel Gertner, and Don Callis. Actually, you can add Jemery Borash to that list as well. Anyone else thinking Mark Madden would be an improvement over Lawler at this point?

Speak English 2.) Have a favourite HOSS 3.) Ignore everything that has happened in the past. 4.) Talk about jibberish, and sensless Triple H stuff. well that kicks off almost everybody on this board
Guest razazteca Report post Posted September 11, 2002 I never really like Mark Madden on WCW, but he did coin the phrase Spinaroonie as for Jemery Borash, he had problems announcing the Women during that battle royal in NWA TNA. And what was the deal with the woman giving him money? how can you hate Cyrus the Network?
Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted September 11, 2002 Mark Madden was about 50x better than Lawler and he wasn't that good. He wasn't really THAT bad either. I'm thinking he may be one of the easier to get guys too. If they want to go from within the company Heyman is the best, but I've heard he doesnt want to do it, and Raven would be the next best, but he needs some work. Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted September 11, 2002 Mark Madden: Excellent writer but pathetic commentator
Guest SuperTonyJaymz Report post Posted September 11, 2002 Dusty Rhodes for ever baby! Serously, if they change it to a 3 man with Dusty, JR, and...oh say... Raven, then that would be some great commentery. Can you imagine th quablles between Dusty and Raven?
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted September 12, 2002 ::coughs loudly, raises hand:: Well, why not? I've done commentary for two local wrestling TV shows, and wasn't too terrible at it.
Guest TheArchiteck Report post Posted September 12, 2002 I used to always watch WCW. When Nitro was on, I would only go to Raw on commercials. I clearly remember MArk Madden's annoying ass.....but as I start watching WWE after the end of WCW, I noticed that Lawler was even more annoying. I say bring back DDP or Raven. Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted September 12, 2002 Madden butchered a Jay and Silent Bob catchphrase, that alone should keep him away from a WWE announcing table. I'd like to see Styles get a shot, the best thing about him is that he never annoyed me. That's a good quality these days.

Guest MarioLogan Report post Posted September 12, 2002 I say that we should go 15 years into the past, and get Goriila Monsoon, and Jesse Ventura, and bring them here.
Guest cynicalprofit Report post Posted September 12, 2002 FACT Mark Madden will NEVER be on WWF tv. His current opinin on wrestling, and im quoting here "...wrestling sucks." Notice how he hasnt been involved in wrestling since the WWA PPV, which is strange, because if his opinion of wrestling is so bad, why did he do the ppv, oh yeah thats right, money, the guy has no integrity. He's also to fat, and thats not a knock at fat ppl, hey im one, but the wwf would not put him on tv with his weight issues. The WWF has never been a weight friendly place, examples being Vader, Show (who is gonna back to OVW if he doesnt smarten up about it soon), and Viscera. Strangely enough, im 90% sure its him at Hooters when i go to see ppvs, he lives in pa and so do i, and it looks like him, but hes got longer hair and glasses so im not certain. Any one got a current picture of him? Give me Joey Styles, hes a one man commentating machine and hes always funny, the "Olympic Rules Match" was pure gold. Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted September 12, 2002 I'll take Paul Hymen, err Heyman...
Guest BlackRainbow1025 Report post Posted September 12, 2002 If Vinnie Mac wants the color guy on RAW to be a pervert, why don't they just get Gertner? He's a lot less annoying and way more clever than Lawler could ever hope to be. Personally, I think Lawler would be fine if he went back to the way he used to be when he was an actual heel, not the "PUPPIES!! HYMEN!!" Lawler we are forced to press mute to every week. I was watching Summerslam and even then, Lawler was fine b/c he was putting over the match (RVD/Benoit), discussing the holds and such, actually reminding us he was a wrestler and knew what he was talking about for once.
