Guest Razor Roman Report post Posted September 17, 2002 This year is shaping up to be a decent, but ultimately forgettable year at the movies. many films that were supposed to be "Great" or "huge" seemiingly didn't live up to people's expectations. "Road to Perdition" was supposed to be great.. but it didn't get into the national consciousness like, say, "The Godfather" or "American Beauty" did. "Episode II" wasn't as big a deal as Episode I was, and was probably hurt by all the Episode I bashing that has gone on. "Lilo & Stitch" was the first Disney movie in a long time that didn't feel like it was trying to copy the success of a Disney movie before it... It didn't seem like "Hunchback" trying to be another "Beauty and the Beast" or "Emperor's New Groove" trying to be another "Alladin" it was a truly great movie for families, and should have been a huge hit, but Disney's reluctance to go all-out for something that is not a proven commodity prevented it from going to the next level and being the next "E.T." "Minority Report" has proven just how out-of-touch Steven Speilberg has become with movie audiences. "Spiderman" may be the only bonafide success of the year. IMO the movie was a great superhero genre film... it had all the elements of emotion, comedy, and action perfectly balanced... it was not a character study like "Batman" nor was it a live-action Cartoon... it was truly a film that had something for everyone. While not the finest work of cinema ever created, "Spiderman" is a perfect example of pure hollywood. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
