Guest Renegade Report post Posted September 13, 2002 Is Tekken 4 worth it? Well lets see. Do you like fighting games? Do you have a PS2? Do you have two hands? In other words yes.
Guest KoR Fungus Report post Posted September 13, 2002 Eddy is replaced by Christie, who basically plays the same, so all you button mashers don't have to worry, you'll still be able to ruin the game for everyone around you. And yes, Tekken 4 is definitely worth it, but the PS2 port is pretty basic, so I'm mad at Namco. We have to wait a fucking year and all we get is force mode? *Sigh*. I'll post a full review once I actually play the home version, just to make sure that the mags are right when they say Namco added nothing since the Japanese version. Guest Pegasus Kid Report post Posted September 14, 2002 To be honest; if you own Tekken Tag Tournament or hell if you already have Tekken 3 then I wouldn't bother. Namco has seriously becoming very lazy with their two big fighters (Tekken and Soul Calibur). They bump up the graphics and add a couple of new characters but the older guys work EXACTLY the same. This may sound stupid but I don't like being able to pull off Ten Strings right off the bat. I don't want to be able to beat an arcade game on the very first try. Where's the challenge? Where's the fun? If you were good in the previous game then you're good in Tekken 4 because nothing changed. I don't think it would have killed Namco to at least change up some of the moves. Lazy... Guest KoR Fungus Report post Posted September 14, 2002 The old characters don't work exactly the same. Yes, the ten strings are the same, but that's because ten strings are an archaic Tekken 2 dynamic that Namco has stopped updating. I wish they'd just take them out, but they're popular with the scrubs. As far as moves go, plenty of new moves were added and most of the new characters have several new moves that are worth using. The walls also add a new dynamic. If you don't bother learning the new stuff in TK4, you won't be good at it. Yeah you'll still be able to beat the computer in one player, but that's never the point. Fighting games are about two player play, and there's plenty of new stuff there to work with.
Chunk 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2002 Its not out here in the UK yet, but I played it at an Expo in London, and i was impressed. The graphics and gameplay arent massive leaps from Tekken 3, but i was hooked to it straight away, and before i knew it there was a huge cue of people behind me telling me to move over cos i had been on the machine long enough, LOL! If your a Tekken fan then definetly get it, as the new characters, Tekken Force and the addition of the walls as a weapon, add enough for you £40! If your not a Tekken fan, then i would wait for Virtua Fighter 4, which is promising to be good. The gameplay is not exactly the same, i only played it for about 30 mins, but the throw setup has definetly changed. I dont agree with it being changed too much anyway, it would make your time on the older games pointless. By leaving it similiar, you can use your old skills as well as learning new ones. I would agree that some additional modes wouldnt have gone a miss though. The most annoying thing when i played it was the Lei Wulong wasnt a starting player, so i couldnt play as him at the Expo LOL. I also love the new floppy hair for Paul LOL. Smalll change, but it made me laugh. If you ask me, the old saying "If it aint broke, dont fix it!" fits perfectly when summing up Tekken 4. Its not a giant leap from Tekken Tag/Tekken 3, but being a Gamecube owner, its still light years ahead of anything on offer for my first choice of console. cheers ChUnK!
