Guest goodhelmet Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 "There would have been plenty of reason/build for the match non-title if they hadn't gotten jumpy and turned Austin face after Survivor Series." You're right. He could have been booked as a heel up until Mania where he loses cleanly to the Rock. At the end of the match, it looks like he's going to do some evil deed, then instead, he calls for the beer, gives one to Rock and raises his hand. Perfect storybook ending with Austin coming full circle. Not the half-ass face turn we received.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 I don't see anything wrong with that. Austin can job clean because he's the heel.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 "I don't know if any of you caught it, but during the IC contendership match, Storm told Big Show to chop him REALLY LOUD. I just found it amusing, because he said it twice in a row and when Show did it, Storm looked like he really regretted it." I didn't hear that, but I did catch Angle telling Jericho to "go for the ropes"
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 They've been really bad on tv lately. I've never heard more called spots than Jericho vs. Austin on the Raw before Vengeance. I swear I heard him call 20 spots. Since then I hear at least one a match.
Guest goodhelmet Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 i seriously think it is the product of on the fly booking and no long term direction. These guys are forced to call these matches in the ring cos they don't have adequate time to lay out a gameplan.
Guest Army Eye Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 this should have been the year that Austin finally lost to Rock. Period. Absolutely. Too bad they panicked and turned Austin face. Would've been the perfect way for Rock to finally beat Austin at Wrestlemania
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 Agreed I swear they blew everything by turning Austin (for no reason) after Survivor Series.
Guest goodhelmet Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 It reminded me of Dallas when the entire season was a dream and Bobby Ewing was still alive. made no sense. if you are too young to remember, disregard post. those who do, know exactly what i am talking about.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 I know what you're talking about.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 myself i never liked how they turned austin heel in the first place.
Guest goodhelmet Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 "myself i never liked how they turned austin heel in the first place." it shouldn't have happened at Mania, that's for sure. I do think a heel turn was necessary just not at Mania. as best heel in 2001, the award goes to Austin. He tried hard and his matches delivered Bigtime.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 They did it quite poorly. I always figured that the only way they could do it was to side him with Vince. Strike 1: They were in Texas In theory it COULD have worked. I like the IDEA of a heel Austin. Strike 2: Touchy Feely Austin Bad idea. Initially he was a badass heel...which was too much like his face Austin...but to make him a cowardly Vince hugging lose may have been funny...but it didn't help his eventual face turn IMO Strike 3: Siding with the Alliance That ship sank. I would have given anything to see Austin grow some hair back and become the cocky asshole he was as "Stunning" steve. Maybe that would have worked...maybe not.
Guest goodhelmet Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 bps, that about explains perfectly why Austin's heel turn did not draw huge cash. not vbecause it wasn't a good idea, but because it was poorly executed. I'm afraid if Austin grew his hair back, he'd look more like Hogan then stunning steve.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 True that. Just wishful thinking. I miss him so.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 we ALL miss Stunning steve
Guest goodhelmet Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 man, i just bought a comp with stunning steve vs. steamboat and it makes me hate WCW even more. Austin was a goldmine but they always deemed fit to give him a friggin manager. Col. Parker, Dibiase, Paul E. just let the man fight and be an asshole. That's a hard formula.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 I remember I was really happy when Austin won the title at MAnia 14. He wasn't "stunning" anymore but I always like to support a guy I think has what it takes to be a champion. I was an Austin fan the first time I saw him (when he was tv champion) and he was my pick for a guy who had "it". "it" didn't happen for a LONG time (and by then he was almost a completely different wrestler)...but I was happy none the less. His arrival in ECW is what turned me on to it. So I watched WrestleMania 14, and it was kind of the end for me and Austin as my #1 guy. He'd made it. Then it took less than a week to find my new guy. I was sitting in the front row when RVD won the TV title...and he hooked me. (I'd already been a fan...but now I was hooked) To be honest...I never thought he'd get as far as he has (in terms of popularity) Who knows, maybe I'll be 2 for 2.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 hey godhelemet you want to REALLY hate WCW? get some stuff as austin and pillman teaming as the hollywood blondes. they coulda been the greatest taf team of the 90's
Guest goodhelmet Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 the hollywood blondes were the best tag team of the nineties on pure talent alone. no one else even comes close. another friggin brainfart.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 God I loved the Hollywood Blondes. On one hand I was happy that Austin was going singles (because he was my favorite) but I loved the Blondes. Hell...look at my quote.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 i hated hated hated hated what they did to pillman after the break up, and don't even get me started on having austin job the us tittle to duggan.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 You can blame Hogan and Bischoff for the Austin/Duggan move.
Guest goodhelmet Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 austin's job reminds me of a current situation. why would the RVD-Regal matchup be intriguing when it's already been proven that RVD can beat Regal in under a minute. Another wasted opportunity by the WWF
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 oh i did, let's just say the wcw recieved many many angry letters from a 10 year old from canada!
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 Another clash of styles too. I hope Storm beats Regal for the belt for some reason. Storm could challenge Regal becaus Regal said he should face someone like Storm. Let Storm win and then defend against RVD. I don't need Regal on my WrestleMania
Guest TheDames7 Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 Goodhelmet, its been proven that RVD can beat Regal in less than a minute, this is true....but RVD also jobbed to Regal on Smackdown a few weeks before that. Just the fact that RVD MIGHT take the IC title is reason enough for fan interest. Dames
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 Lets hope they don't put Regal over and drag out a 3 ppv feud... This should be strictly one and done.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 5 bucks says they do exactly that just to fuck with ya bps21
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 Why would I want to be fucked with AND lose 5 dollars....NO DEAL!
Guest goodhelmet Posted February 26, 2002 Report Posted February 26, 2002 here's to hoping that Edge prevents Regal from using the knucks, RVD wins then when Edge raises RVD's arm he pops him with the knucks. Since he couldn't beat Regal, he will try to beat Edge for his belt. Viola! 1st match booked for backlash
