Another Move Description Threads

Recommended Posts

Guest RickyChosyu

These are mainly Joshi moves, from what I can tell, but some info on them would be of great help:

Death Lake Driver: I've heard this is Mima Shimoda's move, but could someone tell me what it is, exactly? Sounds like a varriation on Mita's DVB, but you never know.

Niagra Driver: Kyoko Inoue's move, right? What exactly is this?

Destiny Hammer: This one is Takako's, correct? Explanation, please?

Moonsault Double Foot Stomp: Not so much a question of what it is, but more of who does it, if anyone? I heard this move referenced once, and it sounds pretty ridiculous, since I can't imagine it being done without injury to at least one of the participants.

As always, thanks for any assistance.

Death Lake Driver - release tiger superplex. Not as nasty as it sounds; usually released to the side rather than over the top.

Niagara Driver - Splash Mountain/Black Tiger Bomb, except over one shoulder instead of across the back. Or, alternately, a sitdown Thunder Fire power bomb.

Destiny Hammer - diving knee to the head, usually an enzui knee.

Moonsault footstomp - Hikari Fukuoka (who's about a buck ten soaking wet) started the insanity; these days, Dynamite Kansai's Mini-Me, Tsubasa Kuragaki - who goes closer to 160 - does it every now and then.

Tiger driver where the opponent is lifted up to shoulder height before the sitdown. Usually results in a neck bump.

Ah, thanks a bunch. I remember seeing Shimoda do the Death Lake Driver, and it's really nothing too bad at all.

At least someone didn't ask who uses the Momoracci. :)

Ricky - If you haven't seen the 8/21/93 Hokuto-Toyota match, I'd suggest you put it extremely high on your list. It isn't better than the 11/94 Aja-Toyota, but it's the closest I've seen out of all other Toyota singles matches, including the hair match. In other words, it's her second best singles match.

Thank you for rephrasing me, Dace. I'm sure everyone's much clearer now.

I fricking hate that name. Momoracci. It's like the people who say Aska. Are you going to trust non-English speakers to translate it correctly, or are you going to know better because you're familiar with the target language? MOMOLATCH. ASUKA.

And Hokuto/Toyota...here I am, the one to big pimp it, and I dunno about it so much anymore - I forget if it was Hokuto blowing off the knee trouble that got me or Toyota Being Toyota and blowing off the hurty stretching that got me. 'Twas the root of my stalling out on wrestling in general, though, so I don't know when I'll watch it again to figure it out. Still makes my in-progress Top 20, though.

Chris, isn't Asuka pronounced Aska in Japanise, with the u being silent? By "say" do you mean "type" or "say" in the verbal sense?

I actually haven't ordered Big Egg Universe yet. I got all worked up to buy it from Tabe, and then he goes off on vacation. Bah.

Strange that I have never heard Hokuto/Toyota pimped by anyone before. I just figuered they had never had a meaningfull singles match. I'll definitely track it down, seeing as I like Toyota from that era and I like Hokuto in general.

As an additional question, when did Hokuto and Bull have their big blow-off match, or was there one? If so, where abouts would it be ranked in quality?

It *sounds* like it's Aska, but that's Japanese U's for you - the speakers tend to run over them, and it gives the impression that they're not there. But they are - there are no silent letters in the Japanese language.

When it comes to good Hokuto/Toyota matches, the 9/95 match is good, and the 1/91 match is very good, but neither is The Hokuto/Toyota Match You Need to See, like 8/93 is. But it helps to know the specifics of their rivalry when watching any of the matches. And as for Bull/Hokuto, the closest they came to an official blowoff was the 7/30/92 cage match Hokuto won (beating Bull at her own specialty). Bull still won tag matches afterwards, but they were never straight-on rivals again. It's not bad, but all that's available is the last half.

Don't bother with 9/95. I mean it's not 'bad' per se, but it's the one match that I really want to throw in the woodchipper, similar to Misawa-Kobashi 10/25/95.

It's not in the same nuttiness ballpark as the Misawa/Kobashi match - not even playing in the same league. It's just not a classic; I wouldn't demonize it just for that (that's why I demonize fans of the match).

Well, judging from what I've heard, Kobashi and Toyota were at about the same levle of nutiness in '95, for whatever reason. Were there any essential Hokuto matches durring that period?

Considering she was retired until June and only worked a handful of shows, no. Though the Shimoda match from 8/30 is a fun ass-stomp.
