Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season 7

I think Joyces/The First "She won't choose you" was great because it came back when Dawn kicked Buffy out of the house for the (greater) good of the whole.

That's kinda how I read it, but I don't think the writers did a good enough job of conveying that if it was the point. And really, for something that seemed to get played up a lot in those early mid-season episodes, that really didn't have any impact. Dawn turned the car around, came back, and that was that.

out of boredom I checked the old Buffy thread (about 60 pages back)...that one was started a little late in the season and only got about 230 replies. And this thread's just under 2,500

This was a great thread. Wonder if we can get archived as a classic thread?

I hate to be a downer, but for some reason I was underwhelmed after watching the final episode last night. It was probrably the limp wristed way The First went out. It was still a good show, but I felt the endings to seasons 2,3,4, and 5 were all better than this one, IMO. That was the one thing about Buffy, they sure knew how to end a season.

I said a few pages back that when the discussion is over, it will be archived.

*ahem* Kennedy should've died...maybe that's just the Tara/Willow love mark in me talking though. Also what was the point in Buffy getting stabbed? Didn't really account for anything in the short term did it?

"Why did The First want Spike?"

This to me is the entire point of season 7.

This season wasn't about Buffy or anyone other than Spike. The overall 7 seasons was about Buffy and company...but this season was all about Spike.

What kind of man could he be? The First and everyone else (Giles and Wood especially) were banking that he would be Buffy's downfall. But Buffy believed in him.

What kind of man could Spike be? Whatever kind Buffy wanted him to be. That's always been the answer since he fell for her in season 5. She made him what he is. He only has a soul because of her raving and pummeling him in the episode Dead Things in season 6. When Buffy goes to turn herself in for "killing" Warren's ex girlfriend Spike stops her and she beats the shit out of him saying "You don't have a soul. There is nothing good or clean in you. I could NEVER be your girl". When Spike goes way over the line and tries to rape her he realizes that it's true. And he's off to get his soul because it's what she deserves.

See...The end of the second last episode is supposed to be a cliffhanger for the final episode where we see Spike watching Buffy and Angel kiss. He was the ultimate wildcard. The only person who believed in him just ripped his heart out.

But there was never a doubt that Spike would do the right thing. As he said a few eps ago "When I say I love you, it isn't because I want you...or because your attainable. It doesn't have anything to do with me. I love what you are."

That's where the First went wrong. It underestimated Spike. It tried to manipulate him after the kiss...but it wasn't strong enough. That's why Spike brought everything down in the end. Because he loved her SO much that nothing could change his feelings for her.

Like I said a while back. Season 7 was all about Spike and his redemption. Even though he knows , and says, that Buffy doesn't really love him...it can't change how he feels. And that's how he goes out. In perfect Spike style with a wicked smile on his face.

Does anybody else thing that Sarah looked...bad...in this episode? I mean, she looked down right anorexic.

I didn't notice anything in particular. She just wasn't wearing as many layers as usual in a few of the scenes, I guess.

She didn't look nearly as terrifying as the Alyson Hannigan picture in your sig, though.

As much as I love Aly, that pic is awful on the eyes.

Agreed...just look at DawnBTVS's pic and my avatar for your Alyson fix.

Gonna rewatch the final tonight.

By the way...

In the final episode I LOVE how they show Spike and Buffy standing on opposite ends of the basement and then fade out to let you imagine what they did in their last night together.

Fine. When looking at the final season as being all about Spike, I see more to where they were going and now it isn't all that bad.

Still not better than endings of the past though.

That was beautifully written.

See? This is why I love the Spike character so much.

I come bringing some cool news. The Buffy finale popped a rating of 4.9 last night. That's the biggest rating they have had since the Season Six premiere.

Had it gotten a 4.9 a little more often maybe they'd pay SMG more and we'd get another season...ah well.

Glad it did well. I just wish more people watched the other episodes.

Now that the show's done, I wish we could get the DVDs a little more quickly. I know there's syndication laws and what-not...but come ooooon! I'd die to have at least up to season 6 out by Christmas, but I know it'll be 4 in June and 5 in January, just like always.

I don't think she would have lasted any longer. She was wasting away.

Anyway, just rewatched the final...good stuff. But Wood, Dawn, and Rona should have died.

And the sooner the rush the DVDs the sooner they'll get my money! Put em out now!

I rewatched it again...I am happy dawn lived but for the love of god they could've traded Rona for Amanda...Amanda dead hurt almost as much as Anya...Didn't realize how attached I had gotten to the skinny little nerd.

I wish they would have played up the "Everything was meant to happen this way" type thing like they did with Angel this year.

Everything leading up to this point had to happen. It would go along way to say why Buffy could never kill Spike. That's why the first was after him...cause despite all the Lord of the Rings music flaring and all of the mini-slayers kicking ass, eventually they would have lost without Spike. He was the scale tipper...as you notice that when the first felt it had lost its grip on him, it went to Wood to try and get him to kill Spike. In the end, it was going to be spike that made all the difference.

I think that alot of questions that were asked and never answered are in true Mutant Enemy style...they might not mean something now but they will later. I guess people were looking for more closure on every question due to it being a series finale, but you can't name a season they didn't leave questions. I think alot of stuff will come to light on Angel next year...because ME is counting on the entire Buffy audience coming over as it will be the only Joss-ian show left on TV(damn you fox).

Here's a nitpick for you - we've been told or shown in several episodes that Sunnydale has a harbor.

So....where was all the water? Or the ocean, for that matter?

Damn, didn't even think of that

Hell, where was the beach? At least we've been SHOWN that!

And I third the opinion to release Buffy on DVD faster. Don't know how I'll pay for it....
