Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted September 26, 2002 I've said a bunch of stupid stuff in my time, but one that always sticks out in my mind was an intro to mass communications class in college. I transferred from a community college so I was in a room with a bunch of people a year or two younger than me. I knew all the crap that was being taught and had a high A throughout the course. One test, however, I got a question wrong, and I was 99 percent sure that my prof had told us that answer was correct. I stopped him when we got to that ? and said my peace. He said I was wrong. I then said that the "wrong" answer was in my notes, and I was interested to know if anyone else had that answer in their notes. The 10 or so that were paying attention did, and lo and behold they had the "Wrong" answer, too. My prof. then said that the "right" answer was in the book, to which I then asked "does that mean we are not to listen to what you say or write on the black board anymore" Oh if looks could kill I wouldn't be writing this post now... Guest Samurai_Goat Report post Posted September 27, 2002 My history teacher had fun telling us that he'd give us notes on the blackboard....but he wouldn't give us everything we needed for the test. So I doodled in a notebook all period, read the chapter 3 minutes before the test (hey, it's those standard multiple choice history tests, and no essay), and then I'd ace the test every single time. Well, there was that one time I got an 88, but I hadn't read the chapter, so I was kinda flying on the seat of my pants. I beg forgivness. Side note: I got an award for history from the school. I asked him why I got the award. He said it was process of elimination, I was the only one who paid attention to the notes. Psh.
Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted September 27, 2002 I had an annoying Social Studies teacher in high school who liked to pick on me largely because she was old, fat, and ugly and I'm not. One time she asked me a question about Hitler and whether he was justified in doing something or the other. I said, "Not really." Ugly old teacher: "Naturally?! How dare you say that! You're a very stupid little girl. He gassed thousands, he started a world war which caused the deaths of ten million people and the destruction of Hiroshima, he..." On and on for almost five minutes. I waited for her to finish, and then in the cold anger that often comes over me when dealing with idiots, I said, very precisely, "I said 'Not really,' not 'naturally.' He gassed 6 million, not 'thousands,' fifty-six million people died in World War II, not ten million, more people died in Tokyo than in Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined, and you're a godforsakenly ignorant deaf old bitch. What the hell are you supposed to be teaching me? How to be a retard? Christ, at least get the numbers right." The best part: our headmistress was sitting in the back of the room when this happened, so I didn't even get suspended. Just a warning for taking the Lord's name in vain. The deaf old bitch was never rude to me again, and I got an A for the semester. Yay me.
Guest Samurai_Goat Report post Posted September 27, 2002 My turn. In my kindergarten class, every day was represented by a letter, like today is J day and tomorrow is M day. Little kindergarten things, name things that start with ___, etc etc. However, for the (I believe) 17th day in a row, it was A day. Now, I had been able to read with parental assistance since I was 3, and read kindergarten/ 1st grade books unassisted since I was 4. So, I didn't need to waste half a month talking about the letter A here. So, one day, I commented "Why is it always A day?" I got my first detention. In fact, all the detentions I ever had were in kindergarten! I later learned that she had talked to my parents, because she believed I had learning disabilities and needed to be taken out of the classroom. She even suggested I be given drugs. Within a month of first grade, I was ID'd as gifted.
Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted September 27, 2002 I was called "learning impaired" for a few months because I'd be reading about Hindoo mythology under my desk while our first grade teacher spouted nonsense about Winnie the Pooh and someone going hoppity-hoppity-hop. I was so happy when they let me skip second and third grade entirely and go straight to the fourth, which was taught by a different person who didn't think AA Milne was the acme of literary achievement. Guest Slapnuts00 Report post Posted September 27, 2002 haha, great stories. I don't think I could get away with calling my teacher a "bitch". It's not that I'm a non-comformist, in fact the opposite, I say I'm a pretty straight, follow the rules type of guy, I have no need to do anything that gets me in trouble. But I'm also very opinionated and outspoken and if I have something to say, I'll say it whether it offends someone or not (Hell, I got called to the principles because a couple black girls misinterpreted something I said as racist). Anyway, this board has helped me form political views (or at least puts into words what I'm thinking), and it's just that the majority of kids at my school are liberal, peace loving types who don't want to accept that sometimes you have to go to war to make things better, and that you can't always cater to your enemies (or is that too not-pc?). What pisses me off is most are ignorant in their views too, just insulting Bush because it's trendy, even if he's doing the right thing. I'll be happy to admit that my views lean more towards Democrats (IM 17 so technically Im not anything yet), and was discouraged when Bush was elected president. But I'm not gonna let my views get in the way of seeing things clearly. Since 9/11 the world is a different place, and certain things like defense are more important, and since then I feel Bush has done an excellent job not only in being someone to look to for support since the attacks, but has along with his cabinet been doing a good job of planning and executing the neccesarry steps that need to be taken. Of course the response I mostly get is "oh, he hasnt found Bin Laden" or "Sadam isn't a threat, no one wants to go to war, he's just pissing off the rest of the world". Sorry, I realize I'm going off on a tangent here, just wanted to vent my views. If I can change my usually liberal perspective to a more conservative one when times call for it, why can't anyone else I have to go to school with? Even in English, we're studying Gulliver's Travels and we split the class into 2, to debate whether the human race are like or unlike Yahoos (the dirty, unevolved, violent creatures in the book). I was of course on the side debating that we are an elightened species, but the other side were arguing about how all we do is create wars and hurt other cultures or something ridiculous. I can't remember how we responded but the teacher said our side was more convincing. A girl on the other side I ragged on forever because she supported Nader and the green party at the last election. Uggg....She made some ridiculous statistic about how we destory our enviorment and fight each other, which I responded: "where did you hear that one from, RalfNaderBrainWashing.com? I got a lot of laughs but of course a "shhh!" from the teacher. Ok, I'm done babling

Haha, in my sociology (sp) in college I got an A and never studied. My trick was to answer all the test questions with the worst possible scenario. Example: Health Care in America is: A) Good, B) So-so, C) Worse as it has ever been, thanks to Ronald Reagan. The answer, of course, was C...

Guest J*ingus Report post Posted September 27, 2002 I went to a Christian private school for a couple of years, and have one particularly vivid memory of an old bitter 1st Grade teacher spitting venom all over the Jewish race, calling them Christ-killers and responsible for the world's evils, so forth & so on. Guest Olympic Slam Report post Posted September 27, 2002 Health Care in America is: A) Good, B) So-so, C) Worse as it has ever been, thanks to Ronald Reagan. The answer, of course, was C... If I've learned anything in my brief years of junior college it's that everything bad that has EVER happened in the world is because of Ronald Reagan. Sigh......oh well, at least all the liberal opposition keeps my brain spry and alert.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted September 27, 2002 Ronald Wilson Reagan=666 I was never a confrontist in school. I just figured I'm right and their wrong and there's no sense arguing with idiots.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted September 27, 2002 The only thing this board teaches is liberal hate and conservative views. As was said, what's wrong with that? Seriously, I don't think this board should teach anyone political views, but rather, how to get them across. I think this board teaches people that a well thought-out, substantiated opinion will be accepted (not necessarily agreed with, but accepted) over an off-the-cuff opinion with nothing to back it up, as those are quite correctly dismissed. Maybe I'm just being high-minded, but I think we have some very good discussions here, about important issues, and reading those discussions may help people to form their arguments more convincingly. Better living thru hostility. Ya gotta love it.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted September 27, 2002 Yeah, I'm ready to actually discuss matters seriously(with my unique tilt of course) now that I've gotten my silliness out of the way. As I said in the General Chat thread that brought me back in here, this folder is a conservative majority, but doesn't stamp out liberalism. It may want to sometimes, but doesn't. No one can "form" my views, certainly not a message board, but these are all feeling I have and arguments I agree with that I myself am not knowing enough or poetic enough to phrase them. It's great to come here and put things into perspective. I'm a liberal on smaller scale issues but when we're at war with half the world, there needs to be some give. There's one nimrod at my workplace who blames EVERYTHING on RR. It's actually fun trying to figure out how RR is responsible for making him work reduced hours, etc.
