What do you all think ought to go onto a Best of Japan 2002 comp?

So far I think it should have:

Mutoh vs Kawada

Tenryu vs Kojima

Nagata vs Akiayama

Nagata vs Yasuda

Nagata vs Takayama

Lyger/Tanaka vs Gedo/Jado

Lyger/Tanaka vs Kanemoto/AKIRA

Tenzan/Chono vs GOTCH-ISM

Takayama vs Tenzan

Chono vs Takayama (G-1 Finals)

Takayama vs Ogawa (GHC 9/7/02)

Team 2000 vs NJ Juniors 10 man elimination match from March.

Tenryu vs Kea (7/17 PPV)

Good thing you're not making the comp.

"Tenryu vs Kea (7/17 PPV)"

This was Kojima. And their first match wasn't very good.

"Mutoh vs Kawada"

Gawd, this is why all these "would you buy this comp/what would you put on this comp" questions SUUUUUCK.

well, the only worthwhile matches i have seen from japan this year have been the akiyama/nagata vs. kobashi/ misawa match (kobashi's return),the junior tag from the same show, and the zero one marufuji vs. hoshikawa match from 3/2/02. i haven't seen any thing else worth putting on a best of 2002 puro comp although i have the NJ hour tag match and tenryu vs. kojima 7/17/02 on the way so that may change.

also, chris, since you are a lover of joshi, are there any joshi shows worth seeking out this year?

I haven't watched much of anything from this year. About the only Joshi matches I've seen that even broke the "good" barrier were Hyuga vs. Ran from 1/7 and Momoe vs. Fujita from 3/19. But that's without having seen the 2/24 AJW PPV, the 3/10 JWP show, and the Nagashima/Satomura matches (even though I have all of them sitting in my closet).

For 2/24, the Nabe/Takahashi/Noumi vs. Black Joker, Momoe vs. Maekawa and Ito vs. Toyota all break the "good" barrier - but whether or not any break **** is another story. I'm leaning towards no at this point.

The problem is that this is supposed to be a "Best of" thread, and the first match mentioned is Mutoh vs. Kawada, which everyone with some common sense knows was one of the year's worst matches. And if they didn't, they're listening to the wrong people.

Thisis the reason I listed Mutoh vs Kawada. I don't follow AJPW on any type of regular basis. Scroll down to where Zach mentions the MOTYC candidates for 2002.

Has anything noteworthy come out of Michinoku Pro this year?

Well, the matches I hear about from people I trust, or have myself actually seen, are (if I spell a name wrong, sue me):

-Misawa/Kobashi vs Nagata/Akiyama (NOAH)

-Ohtani vs Tanaka (Zero One)

-Chono/Tenzan vs Nishimura/Nakanashi (New Japan)

-Kojima vs Tenryu 2 (All Japan)

I'm sure there's more. If I was gonna throw in personal preference I'd add Kea vs Tenryu on the 8/8 show this year, which wasn't a classic by any means, but was still a good match with a great upstart-finally-beating-the-old-man storyline. Plus, the guys involved are two of my favourites.

And hey, some people like Muto vs Kawada alot. That doesn't make their opinion any less valid. People like different things, ya know?

that has been the argument forever BUT i liked the showster gag at backlash 2000. it was absolutely hilarious BUT that doesn't mean it was a ctually a good match.

"And hey, some people like Muto vs Kawada alot."

Good for them.

"That doesn't make their opinion any less valid."

Maybe to you. But to me, it's got a big fat ZERO, when it comes to validity.

"People like different things, ya know?"

Oh, I sure do. Doesn't mean I have to.
